The book serves as an alternative to the imagery used by the mainstream media to depict Europe's refugee and migrant crisis. We wanted to approach the subject from a calmer perspective, using photography as a means of meeting the people at the centre the crisis face to face - and of learning something about their lives.
Incoming was made in collaboration with cinematographer Trevor Tweeten and composer Ben Frost and was co-commissioned by Barbican Gallery and National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne. The book is published alongside an installation of Mosse’s 3-screen video work.
In the vicinity of the port of Calais there is an area of a few hundred square meters, known as the 'jungle'. The inhabitants of this area (by default we call them refugees, asylum seekers, illegal immigrants, immigrants) have travelled many miles to come here and still their journey is not finished.
