Urban Spree Galerie  presents ONIO’s Ecke, a new solo show by Brazilian street artist ONIO.

Onio’s Ecke presents a range of various artworks from drawing and murals, as well as screen prints and zines. As a multidisciplinary artist, ONIO explores abstract shapes, intricate patterns and dynamic compositions in his work.

The works displayed in the new section of the Galerie is the fruit of a 2-week residency at Urban Spree, at the invitation of Urban Spree Resident Artist Rylsee as well as works created as part of ONIO’s European Tour, an artistic wandering in Barcelona, Paris, Antwerp, Amsterdam, London and Berlin over a 75-day span, meeting fellow artists and paintings walls.

In addition, ONIO collaborates with Leipzig based artist and friend KID GRINGO on a mural within Urban Spree.

About ONIO:

ONIO portrays the hustle and bustle of life of metropolis Brasilia through his paintings. The repetitive forms and the bundles of lines in his works give an idea how the city is carved into his soul.

ONIO’s impressions of Brazil might be chaotic and disorganized, but on the other hand, the warm colors and friendly shapes convey an atmosphere of hope and positive energy. His works have already been shown in Brazil, notably in Sao Paolo, Brasilia as well as other cities internationally.

Um die Ecke

Every city to some extent benefits from -and is being imprisoned- by its own myth and cliché – and Berlin is a prime example of this phenomenon. Berlin is known as a cosmopolitan, tolerant, open-minded, and exciting capital in which life is still affordable. At the same time, the city is characterized by it’s rough attitude, edginess and even violent appearance. With ‘Um die Ecke’, Selfcontrolfreak translates the city’s ambiguous struggle with it’s own myth and image into a video projection mapping piece.

We see the artist (Olivier Otten) chasing and being chased by himself in an infinite loop.

This is the first time that a Selfcontrolfreak video is put up for sale.

【 LIVE 】

Automelodi [Montréal]

Automelodi is Montréal based producer and
songwriter Xavier Paradis, whose 2013 full-length
Surlendemains Acides remains one of the most well
produced and memorable synth-based works of the
modern era.

On March 30, 2018 Holodeck Records is
proud to reissue this evocative collection of songs on
LP, cassette and digital download. Delivered in
French, Automelodi is the result of Paradis’ passion
for analog electronics and devotion to brooding pop
sensibilities. Surlendemains Acides has been out of
print for several years, and now to the delight of
hardware enthusiasts and fans alike, this classic is
given a second life.

Paradis is a well-established figure in Montréal’s
dense electronic music culture, and Automelodi has
become one of the most innovative projects to come
out of the region that has produced pioneers like
Marie Davidson and Tim Hecker. Paradis shows the
exquisite ability to arrange with a careful ear for
texture, forming each song element with rich
expression and character. His process of composing
with analog synthesizers and drum machines like the
Moog MG-1 and the Roland TR-808 is used in
combination with field recorded “found sound”
allowing Paradis to write with a palate that is
aesthetically wide-ranging but chosen with precision.
Paradis’ persona as a weary romantic is at the heart
of Surlendemains Acides and extends well beyond
the studio. Paradis’ charm and sleek aesthetic
translate smoothly to his live show and music videos,
with swaggering stage presence and seductive
dance moves.

Automelodi is internationally recognized in
underground electronic circles as an artist of the
highest caliber with an inspiring but rare discography.
Holodeck is honored to work with Automelodi and
add Surlendemains Acides to its catalog.

Luminance [Brussels]

LUMINANCE is a project of DA (also guitarist of band Soror Dolorosa), founded in Brussels in 2012 .
The music is a mix of new wave , synthpop , electronic with cold and cloudy vibes floating around it, inspired by cold wave, synthpop, post punk, and all kinds of music from the 80’s but definitely bathing in the present moment.
Echoing drums in the distance, vaporous winds bearing the old voices, here to guide us through the coldness of the city, towards the ancestral light.
