Bonnie Li -Wǒ Men- ALBUM Release PARTY

Icons Creating Evil Art présents:

Dark Pop / Trip Hop / Electro-Cabaret

On the occasion of the release of her debut album “Wǒ Men”
Bonnie Li will throw her release party at Urban Spree on the 14th of Feb!

“In Mandarin ‘wǒ’ means I-myself, ‘wǒ men’ is translated into we-us, and if you skip the space in between it gives you ‘women’, I wanted to play around with that.”

Written over the course of the last year, ‘Wǒ Men’ was arranged with Elia M Sycomor and produced by regular collaborator Paolo Pizzuto in their new home in Berlin, setting the start of a new evolution for the artist.
With the use of further instrumentation and adopting a more Dark-Pop aesthetic, Bonnie Li sees the release as the start of a new beginning for her, experimenting further and moving away from her trip-hop-inspired origins.
“Wǒ Men” looks to be a beacon of coveted thoughts, speaking opinions that you know you shouldn’t, channelling insecurity in a search for yourself. It’s organic, dynamic and fragile, distorted as a mirror to the artist’s emotions and fears, sensitive and dark.

Singer/composer & multi-lingual polymath, Bonnie Li has already been praised by the likes of Clash Magazine EARMILK, Rolling Stone Italia and The Line Of Best Fit.

SEE YOU THERE Beautiful Freaks ♥

Kælan Mikla + Some Ember live

[aufnahme + wiedergabe] presents:

Kælan Mikla live
[ISL, Artoffact Records / Fabrika Rec]
www.kaelanmikla.bandcamp.com

Icelandic post-punk meets death-synth trio Kælan Mikla returns for the group’s third album, Nótt Eftir Nótt.

Topping a year that catapulted the band onto stages shared with the likes of The Cure and Placebo, Nótt Eftir Nótt is Kælan Mikla at their most confident, and their most deadly. It’s been five years since Margrét Rósa Dóru-Harrysdóttir, Laufey Soffia, and Sólveig Matthildur Kristjánsdóttir formed the band in Reykjavik, but after several tours and high-profiles stages, as well as two critically-acclaimed albums, Kælan Mikla has brought their A-game in a big way.

Starting off quietly with a creepy, gothed-out ethereal intro, Nótt Eftir Nótt erupts with post-punk brilliance and synthlines that harken back to the bad old days of the Batcave, big hair, and Egyptian-inspired eye-liner. Tracks like the melancholy “Hvernig kemst ég upp?” are wonderfully delightful, while the band goes for the big goth dance number on “Skuggadans,” succeeding with glorious ease. Near the end of Nótt Eftir Nótt, when you’ve already ingested a healthy dose of Diamanda Galas meets The Birthday Party, the title track, produced by popular Icelandic electronic wizard Bang Gang, is basically perfect.

Hot on the heels of shows at Roadburn, Meltdown, and The Cure’s 40th Anniversary, as well as a Fall tour supporting King Dude, Kælan Mikla are set to take their place as one of darkest aural poets on the world stage.

Some Ember live
[US, Third Coming Records]
www.someember.bandcamp.com

SUBMERGING THE SUN, the second LP by Some Ember, is a journal of climatological grief, intimate vulnerability, and transcendental sadness. Self-produced by songwriter Dylan Travis, the record’s sparse arrangements are weighted by bleak ambience and dramatic vocal turns. Icy synthesizers pierce veils of fog-like drones, delivering sorrow and catharsis. Tides of dissonance ebb to reveal glittering mirages of hope, which are just as soon swept away.

Long a fixture of the Oakland, CA musical underground, Some Ember has seen many forms – a solo dream pop bedroom project, a four-piece goth rock outfit, then a hardware-based synth duo, and now a solo performance project once more. Following cassettes on Crash Symbols, Night-People and Ascetic House, the band released their first LP on Dream in 2014. In 2015, Travis and longtime collaborator Nina Chase made the move to Berlin. After a tumultuous two years (which saw a further cassette released on Dream, “DEBTS OF LOVE”), the band will release SUBMERGING THE SUN, as well as a companion cassette EP, SUBMERGED, on Third Coming Records in November 2018.

Kaleidobolt + Orkan

Easy Tiger + Sound of Liberation present:

KALEIDOBOLT + Orkan LIVE!

A Kaleidobolt live show is both a sublime and startling affair: it will leave leave you with a grin on your face, gasping for air and possibly partially deaf. Their music is a dizzying maelstrom of progressive song structures, pulverising riffs and loose psychedelic soundscapes, delivered with joy and ferociousness. Kaleidobolt is a power trio that was formed in 2014 in Helsinki, Finland, they have released two albums: Kaleidobolt and The Zenith Cracks (Pink Tank Records 2015, 2016) and toured all over Europe.

ORKAN

One of the Swedish Gothenburg music scene’s most exciting and brightest shining names at the moment is the prog quintet Orkan. Meaning “Hurricane” in Swedish, it’s both a perfect metaphor for
the band’s sound as well as their recent success. Orkan tell tales of an unjust system, of the ruthlessness of modern society and of the resistance and revenge of Mother Nature, making the amps
scream as well as the on-looking audience. The band touches on difficult themes in with the times, and there is room for both anger, sorrow and joy in their songs. The music of Orkan is dance-friendly and easy to sing along to, but it is also earnest and highly serious. The band’s sound is almost reminiscent of that of classic punk rock, characterized by drummer Moa-Linn Rosenlöf’s and bassist Theresia Dufva’s energizing rhythm section, where an extra punch is thrown into the mix in the form of Kim Bertilsson on the saxophone. Josephine Green’s straight-forward and high-powered riffs blend perfectly together with Fredrik Pettersson’s more melodic Stratocaster solos. The concept of Orkan is undoubtedly inspired by the 1970’s Swedish progressive musical movement, but the band should not at all be described as project based on pure nostalgia. While one foot is resting in the progressive rock heritage, the other is steadily planted in our contemporary times with moving and insightful lyrics that
encourage the listener to reflect and show solidarity with fellow humans.
2017 was an especially exciting year for Orkan. After a successful cross-country tour as the opening act of the prog rock veteran band Nynningen Orkan has played for packed venues wherever they go
and no one is left unaffected by their progress. “Orkan is leading the new prog rock movement”, acknowledges the band Nynningen, and no one seems to object to this claim. In September 2017 Orkan released their self-titled first full-length LP on the Gothenburg based label Alleycat Records. Since before the band have released a 7” single on the same label. The band is currently working on new material and receives new bookings.

VUG (Berlin)

VUG is a rock n’ roll band from Berlin following the tradition of 70’s hard rock and proto-metal. The four members met while playing in different bands on the metal and stoner rock spectrum and came together, like so many before them, under the constellation of beer and amplifiers to make some noise.

Ursular (Berlin)

Hailing from Berlin, this heavy-playing fourpiece was brought together by their love for beer and amplifier-induced trance states. Like a slow trudging bear with a fuzzy pelt, electric claws and a melodic singing voice, the female-fronted outfit is looking to bring their very own mix of Doom and Heavy Psychedelic Rock to the stoner caves of this world. From the deep growl of the amplifiers to the peaks of a saxophone wrapped in reverb, URSULAR are looking to combine the heavy with the melodic, the meditative with the ecstatic, the familiar with the unexpected. Let there be fuzz. Let there be loud. Let there be URSULAR.
