————————————————————————-
Emerging from the DIY underground of Barcelona, Belgrado initially traded in a stylish mixture of post-punk tropes that could be traced back to the Europe of the early 1980s. Formed in 2010, Barcelona-based outfit Belgrado has existed at the innovative forefront of the global post-punk scene. Now in their ninth year, the quartet continues to play at home and abroad, carrying with them a reputation built on three full length albums and an impressive touring career that has taken them to all corners of the globe.

The tale is perhaps a well-precedented one: a Welshman, an American, and a Swede move to Berlin and start a post-punk band called PLATTENBAU in a studio housed in the massive former DDR Funkhaus. Hans Tobias, Lewis Lloyd und Brandon Walsh describe their very own sonic can of worms as post-ideological surrealism, the ten songs on their self-titled debut album oscillate between noise, pop and surf.

⊙ ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE & THE MELTING PARAISO U.F.O. ⊙
(Japan)
http://acidmothers.com
https://acidmotherstemplethemeltingparaisoufo.bandcamp.com
https://www.facebook.com/acidmotherstempleofficial
Acid Mothers Temple & the Melting Paraiso Underground Freak Out (and subsequent offshoots) is a Japanese psychedelic space rock band, the core of which formed in 1995. The band is led by guitarist Kawabata Makoto and early in their career featured many musicians, but by 2004 the line-up had coalesced with only a few core members and frequent guest musicians.
The band has released albums frequently on a number of international record labels as well as the Acid Mothers Temple family record label, which was established in 1998 to document the activities of the whole collective.
“In a non-stop stream of thrilling noise, they segue from supercharged stomp-rock, through doomy choral chanting and frazzled go-go, to a thundering melee of atonal freakouts. Then on to a pulsating, echo-drenched disco-rock groove, which morphs into a motorik rhythm too rapid even for the autobahn, works itself into a squalling frenzy, breaks cover as a kind of galloping, syncopated, Underworld-with-rabies affair, and flows into a long, chiming trance number climaxing in a collective instrumental howl.” – David Bennun

⊙ SUNN TRIO ⊙
(Phoenix – Arizona)
https://sunntrio.bandcamp.com
https://www.facebook.com/sunntrio
Described as deep spirited, Arabic-music-tinged free jazz-punk and harsh exotica, Sunn Trio’s ever-evolving ensemble digests a number of genres, spitting them back out in creative destruction. Carrying on a long tradition of sun-beaten Phoenix punk, Sunn Trio evokes the sweltering and hallucinatory Arizona desert. Echoes of Sonny Sharrock, John McLaughlin, and Sir Richard Bishop can be heard in Joel Robinson’s fiery blurs of guitar. Imagine the Thinking Fellers Union Local 282 in full force, echoing from behind a curtain of bitter haze. Founded by Robinson in 2010, the ever-changing band has been constantly recording and releasing material, with a recent LP, Fayrus, on Germany’s Unrock Records.
“Wielding Indo-Arabian saz and white lightning six-string shrapnel amidst an alligator snapping turtle’s rhythm section, this trio-quartet-sextet may also sprout horns, flutes, animal skins, or shadow gamelan to faithfully demolish that whiny and predictable listening experience of today’s tepidly lazy, underachieving experimental music scene. Not a ‘safe’ environment.” – Alan Bishop of Sun City Girls
“There’s a woozy, heatstroke feel to the band’s innovative blend of surf rock, free jazz, mystical drone, and world music. Consistently recording and releasing material via self-distributed cassettes, the Trio’s sound mutates in concert, with fantastic flurries of distorted guitars butting up against mantric psychedelic saxophone runs and looping bass.” – Jason Patrick Woodbury

⊙ STEREOCILIA ⊙
(Bristol – Britain)
http://www.stereociliamusic.com
https://stereocilia.bandcamp.com
https://www.facebook.com/Stereocilia1
Stereocilia is Bristol based guitarist and composer, John Scott. John uses his guitar, analog synths and live looping techniques to create dense, rich layers of sound.
Over the past 10 years John has performed all over the UK and Europe with various projects. in the past he has shared a stage with acts including: Gnod, Daniel Lanois, Ex-Easter Island Head, White Hills, Acid Mothers Temple, Ben Frost, Josef Van Wissem, Yuri Landman, Mick Turner (The Dirty Three), Machinefabriek, ThisQuietArmy, Noveller, and performed in three of Rhys Chatham’s guitar Orchestras. He has also presented work for live radio broadcasts, and regularly composes for Short Film.

RAWS: #Neograffism

Urban Spree Galerie presents “#Neograffism“, the first solo show of the Berlin-based post-graffiti artist Kai “RAWS” Imhof with Urban Spree.

In “#Neograffism”, a term coined by the artist as being representative of his studio philosophy, RAWS strips down his years of graffiti practice and complexity build-up to lay bare the basic essence of graffiti through color and shape in a visually stunning arrangement of colors, contrasts, and gradients.

RAWS explores the tipping point where the core aesthetics of graffiti, after being deconstructed and re-arranged, becomes acceptable as a form of art while retaining its purity. The artist uses a mixed technique in his studio works, using both the spray can and the acrylic brush, as a hybridation of both worlds, the studio and the outdoor.

When it comes to design, I try to combine my preferences for letters, graphics and minimalism in my work. Many of the works were done using acrylic paints and spray cans. The use of these media also emphasizes the duality of graphics and graffiti. In my canvases I have mostly worked with gradients. These are created exclusively with aerosol and can be a symbol of the movement and transience of graffiti.

In his “Black Series”, writing his name becomes a subdued background while the colorful gradients are windows to his artistic world.

Biography:

Kai “RAWS” Imhof (b. 1990 in in Königs Wusterhausen) is a Berlin-based German graffiti artist and graphic designer.

RAWS started painting graffiti in his neighborhood in his early teens, extensively bombing the city from 2004 to 2008, where issues with law enforcement led to the start of his studio career. Trained as a graphic designer at the Best-Sabel Designschule in Berlin, RAWS is also an accomplished designer, having designed products for Reebok, Marvel, Nike, the fashion designer MarcCain, MontanaCans, Über-Skateboards etc.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Graffiti backgrounds for the PS4 game

In parallel, RAWS paints murals all over the world and participates to group shows since 2017 ( The Haus in Berlin, Monumenta in Leipzig, or Wandelism in Berlin). #Neograffism is his first solo show.

Pankow, Tara in Tibet live // Herzschlag

PANKOW (IT)

Pankow, founded in Florence back in 1981, are one of the very first electronic/industrial acts coming out from Italy. The founding member Maurizio FM Fasolo and his five co-band members at that time created sounds inspired by the likes of Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire and early Kraftwerk.

After various line-up changes and the arrival of charismatic lead-singer and poet Alex Spalck, the project started to become noted also abroad and a first live-appearance in Berlin in 1984 marked the start of a long ongoing and successful career for the band.

Following a few cassette-releases and compilation appearances, Kindergarten Records – in collaboration with Polygram – released a first 4-tracks EP in 1984, that included the first more accessible, EBM-Electro-like tracks (even though the term ‘EBM’ was not ‘invented’ by that time…): songs like ‘God’s Deneuve’ and ‘Wodkachaos’ became major hits in Italy. The first LP came in 1987 on Contempo Records, and was produced by Adrian Sherwood.

Since 2016 Pankow started to collaborate with the Canadian label Artoffact by releasing their first official cassette (“Throw out Rite”, 1984) and a 10 “vinyl (Times) with the first songs released only in some Italian compilations before and a couple unpublished ones.

The band is currently active and based in France/Belgium with the frontman singer Bram Declercq.

TARA IN TIBET (IT)

Berlin-based Tara in Tibet is a project of Alessio de Felice, co-runner of label She Lost Kontrol records and owner of Last Europa Kiss records.

His perfomances are waving between noise and groovy industrial, with a touch of esoterism.

Highly recommended for fans of occult sex parties, Italian police movies and dirty raw esthetics.

TIQ

TIQ is a minimal-synth party loved and supported by different alternative scenes. DJ-sets are rigid, cold, rough-edge, blind-alley and the drum machine beats always like a metronome. No matter if the sound comes from the past, the present or the future, we are more and more devoted to select the best minimal-synth-wave music, so called “quadratic wave”.

Quadratic-wave is a word game and a concept from sound physics too, but the best way to catch it is to dance it, and the best way to dance it is by being concentrated and confined in a quadrangle as Die Tödlich Doris sang in their song Tanz im Quadrat: “Wir tanzen im Viereck, wir tanzen konzentriert”.
