Worn Pop in Berlin: Super Besse (BY) + label residents showcase

“Worn Pop is a music organization based in Kiev and was formed by Nikita Netrebko in 2013 to develop Ukrainian coldwave movement by doing shows with guests from abroad, as well as managing and releasing artists coming from the local scene. Their first releases was produced in 2014 on cassettes and CD’s and were basically full DIY from recording at home till cutting cassette tape and assembling them back and were selling mostly offline. Later they stretch their genre palette a lot, but saved own image where all artists in rooster or line-up fit each other by mood and overall atmosphere. Being concentrated mostly on booking shows in 2015 – 2017 Worn Pop became well-known in Ukraine and through out some music scenes in Europe, so time has come for coming back to releasing. The residents of the label go on tour dedicated to their new releases in August of 2018 through Kiev, Lviv, Berlin, Copenhagen, Warsaw and Kalabalik Pa Tyrolen in Sweden.”

Forensics presents Automelodi & Luminance

Forensics presents Automelodi and Luminance live in Berlin

【 LIVE 】

Automelodi [Montréal]

Automelodi is Montréal based producer and
songwriter Xavier Paradis, whose 2013 full-length
Surlendemains Acides remains one of the most well
produced and memorable synth-based works of the
modern era.

On March 30, 2018 Holodeck Records is
proud to reissue this evocative collection of songs on
LP, cassette and digital download. Delivered in
French, Automelodi is the result of Paradis’ passion
for analog electronics and devotion to brooding pop
sensibilities. Surlendemains Acides has been out of
print for several years, and now to the delight of
hardware enthusiasts and fans alike, this classic is
given a second life.

Paradis is a well-established figure in Montréal’s
dense electronic music culture, and Automelodi has
become one of the most innovative projects to come
out of the region that has produced pioneers like
Marie Davidson and Tim Hecker. Paradis shows the
exquisite ability to arrange with a careful ear for
texture, forming each song element with rich
expression and character. His process of composing
with analog synthesizers and drum machines like the
Moog MG-1 and the Roland TR-808 is used in
combination with field recorded “found sound”
allowing Paradis to write with a palate that is
aesthetically wide-ranging but chosen with precision.
Paradis’ persona as a weary romantic is at the heart
of Surlendemains Acides and extends well beyond
the studio. Paradis’ charm and sleek aesthetic
translate smoothly to his live show and music videos,
with swaggering stage presence and seductive
dance moves.

Automelodi is internationally recognized in
underground electronic circles as an artist of the
highest caliber with an inspiring but rare discography.
Holodeck is honored to work with Automelodi and
add Surlendemains Acides to its catalog.

Luminance [Brussels]

LUMINANCE is a project of DA (also guitarist of band Soror Dolorosa), founded in Brussels in 2012 .
The music is a mix of new wave , synthpop , electronic with cold and cloudy vibes floating around it, inspired by cold wave, synthpop, post punk, and all kinds of music from the 80’s but definitely bathing in the present moment.
Echoing drums in the distance, vaporous winds bearing the old voices, here to guide us through the coldness of the city, towards the ancestral light.

Aurelia Dinamita (Trash Me / Dis/Tanz) [Berlin]

Dinamita: third person singular, present simple. The event promoter and DJ Aurelia Dinamita (Trash Me, Dis/Tanz) has been enabling controlled explosions through her wave and post-punk sets that can induce to unpredictable states of stomp-dancing.

Aurelia started setting up fundraising events at underground squats that were summits where post-punk and wave joint forces along with queer and feminist politics. So much so that Trash Me, an event which had its sibling in Madrid at Sala Maravillas, was where she established herself as a DJ together with Schatten Voraus, her partner at the decks. Eventually, Trash Me became a bigger concept together with Dis/Tanz, a collective that throws sexpositive feminist soliparties.

Praha-Berlin Barter in cooperation with Trafo Gallery

In March/April 2019, Urban Spree Galerie invites Prague-based Trafo Gallery for a group show and gallery exchange.

“Praha-Berlin Barter” will take place from 28.03.2019 to 21.04.2019 and will display the works of 8 prominent Czech artists from the Trafo gallery.

Curated by Trafo Gallery Director Blanka Čermáková, the group show oscillates between contemporary urban arts (Jan Kaláb, Michal Škapa), pop surrealism (Jan Vytiska), contemporary drawing, sculpture, digital art, animation (Jakub Janovský, Michal Cimala, Jakub Nepraš), and geometric abstraction paintings (Robert Šalanda, Ira Svobodová). All artists have been involved in the old Trafacka space in Prague before its destruction and are actively involved into the new Trafo Gallery.

This group exhibition marks the first exchange between 2 independent European galleries sharing the same values and a similar history.

Trafacka was created in 2006 as a gallery and residential space located in an old power station in an industrial district of Prague.
After a couple of years, the place was occupied by more than 100 living and working artists in 36 studios, exhibiting in Trafo Gallery. More than 200 projects took place over the course of 8 years, until the place was finally destroyed in 2014. In 2016, the gallery managed to relocate in a former slaughterhouse (Vietnamese market of Prague, across the river from the historical center). Trafo Gallery was reborn with a 200 sqm gallery space and 4 artist studios. The artist-run gallery presents six exhibitions and six books per year with a focus on the new contemporary Czech art scene and the genres of street art, sculptures, abstraction painting, and digital art.

In the words of Blanka Čermáková, Director of Trafo Gallery: “One exhibition per year is a sort of barter with international projects and galleries which this year leads us to Berlin, city of art, angels and friends. Eight artists based in Prague, united with a long term bond to Trafo Gallery and our history, – Ira Svobodová, Jan Kaláb, Jakub Nepraš, Michal Cimala, Michal Škapa, Jan Vytiska, Robert Šalanda and Jakub Janovský – represent strong personalities and different art expressions. Ira Svobodová paints exact architectural compositions and builds perspective with colors and shadows, Jan Kaláb, a well known artist to Urban Spree with strong street art roots and perfect color and shapes styles, Jakub Nepraš shape sculptures as a platform for his vivid videocollages of microscopic worlds of nature and human babylons, Michal Cimala composes sculptures made often from collected material to existentialist compositions. Graffiti legend Michal Škapa works with urban scenery, apocalyptic and architecture destruction or using expressive colors when writing his crypted rune texts on canvases. Jan Vytiska is a painter of zombie romantic and surrealistic stories often based in forest neighbourhood or in postapocalyptic times. Robert Šalanda works with paper collages of abstract color shapes and transpose it to canvases where playfully upgrades new compositions with gradient colors. Last but not least Jakub Janovský is recognizable with his figurative drawings and often black and white coloring, silicon, enamel or airbrush outlines and ironic reflecting of society problems and characters.

All of these artists, whether picturing abstract motives, displaying the view of their world around or in their visions, are the subatomic particles bonding Trafo Gallery fluidum together. Without them, Trafo Gallery would never exist”.

In May 2019, Urban Spree’s artists will be hosted in Prague by Trafo Gallery.
