With “Dichterin”, the Viennese formation CULK presents its first single from the album “Zerstreuen über Euch”, which will be released in October 2020. It is the second album of the group around singer & multi-instrumentalist Sophie Löw. With their self-titled debut album from last year, they created an “addictive sound” (spiegel.de) between shoegaze and postpunk, with which they caused quite a stir. First and foremost the beguiling vocals of Sophie Löw, who addresses the relevant topics in her lyrics and negotiates them poetically. She sings of power struggles with a powerful urgency, distorted chords underscore the dark scenery of interpersonal abysses.
For the new material, CULK have teamed up with Viennese producer Wolfgang Möstl (Mile Me Deaf, Nino aus Wien, Voodoo Jürgens, Dives…), consistently following the path of their debut. The current single “Dichterin” is a vocal declaration of war against deeply rooted patriarchal structures.
The band makes the following statement:
Words shape society and words put some in the light and others in the dark. When people are not represented in words or language because they are not spoken or written, they are made invisible, which means loss of power. For example, when words are only pronounced in their masculine form, it shapes unreflective gender roles and their attributions. “I am not a poet, but I write poetry.” I am a poet. People who do not find themselves in the generic masculine should no longer have to think whether they are also meant. “You are not a judge and you think you can judge me. Forget not mine.”
Please note: The concert unfortunately has to be postponed from 12.11.2020 to 21.05.2021. All tickets already purchased remain valid!
