Having met Kildjate Moussa Albadé while he was touring with his band TisDass last year we were fascinated by his unique take on guitar-based Tuareg blues and we’re delighted to welcome him and his band back to Berlin having made the long journey from his native Niger.

TisDass is the Tamasheq word for the wooden stakes that support traditional Tuareg tents. It’s also the name of a band hailing from Niamey, Niger formed around Kildjate Moussa Albade, former bassist of the Tuareg band Bombino. Not unlike Tinariwen and other musicians from Northern Mali and Niger, they play what’s often referred to as “desert blues”, for its shifting rhythms and blues-friendly scales.

The four members of TisDass grew up together roaming the Sahara as members of a nomadic tribe. Since starting out back then, this unique group of musicians have brought influences from far and wide to their music. Making a living playing wild desert weddings with electric guitars and fuzzed out amps lit by the stars and the dusty haze of defused car headlights.

Before the show Spatzhabibi will set the scene in Urban Spree’s beautiful beer garden, playing some north African records from their enviable collection. Afterwards they’ll be exploring some more upbeat sounds to celebrate this night of unique music.
