With great passion for their craft, these three young men combine the electrifying drive of rock’n’roll music with booty-shaking funkiness and the healing quality of soul and blues. Their roots go deep into America’s sonic treasure box, sprouting a shoot on today’s branches, swaying in the breeze alongside bands such as Rival Sons or Royal Blood. The heartbeat of the group is a companionship going back more than a decade. Formed in 2019, Circus Electric consists of Oskar, Leo and Adrian – a trio pursuing the joy of speaking a language through their instruments. Their unique sound comes as a result of an intriguing recording process, which takes place in the drummer’s studio, deep in the countryside. After a number of « interesting“ experiences in the music industry, they’ve concluded that the future lies firmly in their own hands. Together with their low-end friend Oskar, the stars finally seemed to align – allowing them to push each other to their best. There’s a distinct energy and sense of adventure in every note shot out of the sonic raygun known as Circus Electric.

Sold Out: Wolf City presents: Sulphur Aeon / Chapel of Disease / Vouna

It would be an understatement to say that these two bands have proven to be two of the most successful, accomplished and creative bands in the German death metal underground of the last few years. With both bands having dropped their respectively magnificent third release in 2018 under the egide of the ever attentive Ván Records, this is a package that should get everyone foaming at the mouth.

Whereas Sulphur Aeon faithfully carry on the work of Charles Dexter Ward to resurrect ancient horrors in the most powerful atmospheric death metal rendition of Lovecraft’s immortal work, Chapel Of Disease started their journey in the darkness of dilapidated crypts to land in territories flooded by the soothing, psychedelic and bluesy sun of classic rock – all without losing an ounce of impact or give in to the temptations of “mature” mass-marketed heavy metal. Two bands, both one of a kind and a testimony to the creative force of the current death metal scene.

They will be joined also by the Cascadian FUNERAL DOOM band Vouna

Wolf Mountains – « Urban Dangerous Tour »

The third studio album « Urban Dangerous » by the garage-rock trio Wolf Mountains opens further doors into the world of timeless pop. The characteristic features like the rolling bass or the 90’s high school rock vocals are still present, but a playground of sound experiments and skits is opened up. The songwriting seems more mature, the riffs more cheeky, the fun factor more balanced, so that the individual songs are amplified by the « hit » factor.

« Urban Dangerous » radiates an energy that increases the mood barometer considerably and can also be enjoyed in all kinds of situations. The R-O-C-K factor plays a big role whether packed in a western look, driving psychedelic blues or with classic indie punk attitude, the Wolf Mountains give the genre the esprit it desperately needs in 2019.

Der finnische Sänger Bobby Oroza veröffentlicht sein Debütalbum « This Love » am 3. Mai bei Big Crown Records. Das Label aus New York City ist bereits Heimat von Bands wie Lee Fields & The Expressions, The Shacks und El Michels Affair.

„This Love“ ist schon jetzt ein heimlicher Klassiker, der Fans von Sweet Soul seit seiner ersten Veröffentlichung auf Timmion Records letztes Jahr begeistert. Der Song mit seinen harten Drums, feuriger Gitarre, vergrabenem Bass und Bobbys ruhiger und doch sehnsüchtiger Stimme, ist ein absolutes Muss für alle Soul-Sammler.

Bobby Oroza ist in Helsinki geboren und in einer Musiker- und Künstlerfamilie aufgewachsen. Auf den Familienfesten hat Bobbys bolivischer Großvater oft zur Gitarre gegriffen und lateinamerikanische canciones und kubanische Klassiker gesungen. Bobbys Mutter ist Sängerin, sein Vater Jazz-Gitarrist im Gitan-Stil. Zu Bobbys Glück hatten seine Eltern eine große Plattensammlung mit frühem Jazz, Blues, Motown-Hits, Gospelchören und Doo-Wop-Gruppen, aber auch Alben aus Brasilien und Afrika, Folksongs aus Nord- und Südamerika von Bobbys Mutter und Salsa-Musik aus New York. All diese Einflüsse sind heute in Bobbys Musik hör- und spürbar.

Schon als Jugendlicher verdiente Bobby sein Geld mit Musik. Seine Hauptinstrumente sind Gitarre und Schlagzeug. Noch vor seinem Schulabschluss drängte es ihn, die Quelle jener Rhythmen zu finden, die ihn so inspirieren. Und so reiste er nach Santiago auf Kuba. Dort studierte er monatelang intensiv Schlagzeug und Gesang. Seit seiner Rückkehr ist er damit beschäftigt, Musik zu produzieren, aufzunehmen und zu performen, um Geld für seine Familie zu verdienen. Mit Cold Diamond & Mink, der Hausband von Timmion Records, bestehend aus Bandleader Jukka Sarapää, Sami Kantelinen und Gitarrist/Komponist Seppo Salmi, bildet er ein brillantes Quartett, mit dem er seine Vision in Musik umsetzt. CD&M liefern mit ihren LoFi-Instrumentals die perfekte Untermalung für Bobbys verrauchte Tenorstimme, die Herzen brechen und schmelzen lässt

The Rotterdam five-piece Iguana Death Cult first made a name for themselves with a twisted and hard-core garage punk including a hint of psychedelia, then the quintet grew into a band that incorporates post-punk, Krautrock, New Wave, soul and disco. Their second album « Nude Casino » will be released on October 25th on the label Innovative Leisure from LA. It shows the more top-heavy side of her songwriting and her sense for the absurd.

The frenzy of the early years can still be felt today: the band is a barely controllable force of nature. They have made their way from dark doldrums to the SXSW, and they prove that defiant dilettantism and real ability can be perfectly combined and lead to success. Opschoor used to play nimble flamenco ornaments on guitar, but would have broken his fingers on blues riffs. With Reek it was exactly the other way round: From wonderfully primitive punk rock he worked his way up to sophisticated retro soul, psychedelic rock and acid jazz à la Art Blakey. And so they meet in the middle, where Boer’s brawny bass competes against Van Opstal’s jazz-influenced licks.

Because the music scene in the Netherlands is very small and familiar, the rise of Iguana Death Cult to a legendary live act took place at an incredible pace. There is no difference for the band
between occupation and hobby, also because of that she was able to gain a big fanbase quickly. Her debut album « The First Stirring of Hideous Insect Life » was released in 2017.

In comparison, the successor « Nude Casino » sounds rather brittle and unembellished – a sceptical sound that also questions their own former hedonism. Jeroen Reek lets his neuroses run wild and oscillates between wild waking dreams and the narrow limits of reality. His lyrical abilities come to the fore on « Tuesday’s Lament », the heart of the album: The song is a monologue in five parts, which self-confidently and in a good mood deals with such difficult topics as mortality and faith. The occasional seriousness that blends into the sound and lyrics doesn’t harm the daring of Iguana Death Cult, like the band that has grown into a quintet through Jimmy de Kok on keyboard.

« Nude Casino » evokes claustrophobic and absurd moods and is dedicated to themes like sleep paralysis (« Half Frisian ») and lost innocence (« Castle in the Sky »). These songs are based on earthly fears like neuroses and conflicts. That’s why the album is permanently jerking with nervous energy, which also comes from the wilder songs dominated by heavy hooks like « Carnal Beat Machine » with its dry disco pulse. Iguana Death Cult celebrate the art of rocking the shit and turning everything on 11. They dig their claws into the music and don’t let go. And they also have fun.
