Both prints are 4-colour, 50×70 cm, hand-pulled, and printed at Urban Spree on Somerset 300 g/sm paper by Mother Drucker in a limited edition of 35 prints.

Both prints are available in Berlin at Urban Spree and online on our webstore. The exhibition of new paintings and drawings of the belgian duo goes on until 24.06 in our galerie space.

La Vallée/BAF at Urban Spree

Urban Spree invites our Brussels-based friends from LaVallée and Brussels Art Factory for a week-end long mini festival in Berlin focused around arts, music, workshops, and performances!

Opening on Friday 01.06, we start the evening with the Opening of “Balance”, a solo presentation of new works by the famed belgian duo Hell’o in our main galerie space. Running in parallel with their retrospective museum solo show at the BAM in Mons (Musée des Beaux-Arts de Mons, Belgium), “Balance” brings a new series of paintings on canvas and drawings on paper to the Berlin audience. Hell’o will also sign their new monograph “Untitled Oddyssey”, published early May by Maison CFC – éditions & librairie. Urban Spree Prints will also release 2 screenprints specially made by the duo for the occasion.

The Brussels-based collectives Farm Prod and Ice Screen will display recent original works and prints in our Galerie “Ecke” and run various screen printing workshops during the weekend.

Fred Penelle & Yannick Jacquet from the collective Antivj will present “Mécaniques discursives”, an immersive installation mixing etchings, prints and video projections.

On Saturday evening, the visual and street artist Vincent Glowinski a.k.a. BONOM and the drummer Teun Verbruggen will present their performance “Duo à l’encre” in our garden. Bonom will sign his 2 published monographs on Saturday in our bookshop.

QUAL (UK)

Qual is finally back with his much-anticipated second full-length album : The Ultimate Climax

https://qual.bandcamp.com/album/the-ultimate-climax

Septic discharges of cybernetic disease seeps from every orifice. Welcoming a post apocalyptic nuclear winter. With terror and restless chaos cometh the digital age condemned to be digitally transformed. Cometh hybrids, mutated humans a depletion of organics.

Dry woods and fire temples.

Modular and mayhem a chant for death and all her joy. Rituals for renewal the infinity of pain and chaos to come. Mechanized doused into illusion the earth has long ended and humans are actually finished. Balance your pagan spirit from years past realize it’s not too late for civilization to rejuvenate.

Unhuman: Release Party

INSTRUMENTS OF DISCIPLINE PRESENTS:

Live Acts:

#UNHUMAN (GR/DE)
Unhuman will perform his first live set in 5 years, presenting his uncut vision of dystopic noise.

Human Larvae (DE)
“Human Larvae’s ability to incorporate and balance more aggressive passages of junk metal clangor, swarming distortion, and ferocious vocals with hopelessly bleak and gloomy atmospheres immediately sets them apart from anything else in the scene today, though reference points can be made to Gnawed, IRM, Grunt, and Theologian. On a whole, Behind Blinding Light stands on its own as a recording of great depth and compositional expertise, and can be regarded as a benchmark recording of pure and true industrial music.” – Malignant Records

AMANDA KNOX (Debut show///IT)
Berlin based produceer Ayarcana plays his first show as Amanda Knox, expect live, electronic sludge.

ERSTWHILE (Berlin Debut///NLD)
Erstwhile is one of the monikers under which Kevin Jansen (Svartvit, Clamor, Qualm, Ratteknaeghen) presents his auditory output. This time around the sounds are rooted in tradition, paying hommage to the greats of the eighties through minimal power electronics dirges. Thematically the project deals with the fragility embedded in our everyday lives.

Live Aktion/Installation/Performance:

Nullam Rem Natam (GR/DE)
Originating from the Latin phrase “nullam rem natam”- means no thing born, an emphatic idiom for nothing.Nullam Rem Natam create and destroy. Their actions are reactions.Their reason is absurd and absurdity is chaos. Unfolding secrets, revealing fears, abusing the psyche. Hunters of intensity and seekers of purgation. An eternal circle, the serpent devouring its tail. Nullam Rem Natam are a group of actionists, composed in Berlin in 2016.
As resident artists of Liber Null Berlin, they commit visual sins and provoke the subconscious. Ignoring the limits and obeying to instincts, they practice and perform their experiments
using sacramental and ceremonial methods.

DJS:

Espectra Negra
Espectra Negra is a very consequent project from Berlin which focuses on Industrial & Ritualistic Noise. She keeps the old industrial sound mixed with shamanic elements and sound art. After her first self-release album “Savage Justice” which included two collaborative tracks with Annie Stubbs (UK/Suddent Infant/Devotion) -vocals- and John Murphy (R.I.P) (AU/SPK/LastDominionLost) -drums- she reached serious local and international resonance for her underground power and strong political content.

AGENCY
One half of OPERANT/IOD, Agency will close the night, mopping up the sludge on the dance floor.

Ruby My Dear, aka Julien Chastagnol, is a producer, songwriter and live performer who fuses melodic
electronica, IDM and jungle to create a highly inventive and musical brand of breakcore. His tracks mix
dreamlike atmospheres and haunting melodies with sharp, complex rhythms, to take the listener on a
constantly evolving journey through his unique sonic universe.
Julien started his Ruby My Dear project back in 2010 with the release of his DJ Shadow’s “Building Steam
with a Grain of Salt” remix, out on his own label, Reconstruction Productions. Now, four years later, he has
produced 8 EPs on both Peace Off and Acroplane and 2 full length albums on Ad Noiseam.
Performing live is also a large part of Juliens arsenal. He brings his intricate production to the stage to
rework his studio pieces so naturally that it seems effortless. He is captivating and engaging to watch on
stage as he blends sonic beauty with live energy.
Notable appearances have been at the Berghain, Glastonbury, Bang Face, Maschinenfest, Fusion Festival
and club events in every major city throughout Europe.
In 2014 Julien joined forces with a Toulouse artist, Lisa Chabbert, to shoot a movie “Jitter Room” and has
completed a new collaborative EP with Igorrr.
In December 2015 comes a new Ep, Balloon, on Kaometry records.

There are few artists that live up to their name. Julien Caraz aka Monster X is one of those special few. For when he takes to the stage, a monster is truly unleashed, leaving a trail of destruction as witnessed at various raves and festivals all over Europe. The French born sonic hooligan moved to London 10 years ago, after a performance in France caused a small riot among old punks fighting in a record shop, resulting in smashed windows and other damage.

Since then he’s evolved his production and performance abilities, head-banging his way through a myriad of midi controllers, hardware boxes and self-built Reaktor modules that have won him listeners and fans of extreme and abrasive music from Europe to US and Japan. Although a professional radio/TV sound designer by day, it’s his night time persona as Monster X that has gained him notoriety worldwide, both as a live performer and recorded artist.

One of the few whose work manages to balance great precision with great fury, his tracks have seen support from discerning labels such as Ad Noiseam, Peace Off, Tigerbeat6, Combat Recordings, Murder Channel, Fyerhammer, Bedroom Research and Mutant Sniper, to name but a few. This latest work on Abstrakt Reflections shows a deeper, colder ferocity and more mature side to his production. As ever the music remains dystopian and futuristic, yet the not-too-subtle track titles suggest inspiration and anger drawn from current world events.

Botanist + Urghun

Dawn of the Dance is proud to present

Botanist (USA / The Flenser) + Urghun

The songs of Botanist are told from the perspective of The Botanist, a crazed man of science who lives in self-imposed exile, as far away from Humanity and its crimes against Nature as possible. In his sanctuary of fantasy and wonder, which he calls the Verdant Realm, he surrounds himself with plants and flowers, finding solace in the company of the Natural world, and envisioning the destruction of man. There, seated upon his throne of Veltheimia, The Botanist awaits the time of humanity’s self-eradication, which will allow plants to make the Earth green once again.

Botanist’s message is of hope, of faith in the power of the Natural balance, one that transcends humanity’s self-seen importance and places us all in a truer place in the universal picture. Botanist believes that although mankind is destroying the Earth’s natural environment, humanity cannot destroy Nature permanently. Humanity can destroy Nature only for humanity, meaning that even if all life, including humanity, has been eradicated, Nature will bounce back. Something will exist out of nothing, just as it always has, and that something will exist whether humanity is a part of it or not.

Botanist believes the world is the most valuable thing in the world. The most essential thing. Nature offers the truest, most tangible vista into the face of the divine, whose unnamable, unknowable existence is reflected through our natural environment. If we want to enjoy this world, to venerate it, to thrive within it, we must respect it, we must protect it, even if it’s only for our personal benefit. If we don’t, if we annoy the Earth enough, the Earth will kill us and move on. What choice will we make?
