If you are familiar with the Urban Spree bookstore concept, you know that our hand-picked selection of photobooks is all about street photography, postindustrial sites, urban decay, street art and the underground… So, when Mobile Kino came with the idea of an outdoor screening of this great documentary about NYC street photographers, we were thrilled with the idea, mostly that the film happily blends the genre between street photography in its documentary/classical way with the street art/graffiti scene.

May 2014: Saucisse Curry

In May 2014, the Wall is dedicated to our first graffiti show of the season, « Saucisse Curry« .

Saucisse Curry introduced in Berlin 9 renowned French graffiti artists, from different crews but united by friendship and the desire to realize a common exhibition. Some of the artworks displayed in the indoor show were already of a collaborative nature with duos such as Ilk & Keno, Bruce & Mina, 2Shy & Sexy, but the wall takes it a step further with every artist involved in the process.

The concept for the Urban Spree Wall was to play on the colors chosen for the show’s poster (so to speak « French colors ») and to realize throw-ups on 3 lines under the banner for the show with a striking impact. Only 2 colors were used + white for the background and the outlines.

Graffiti artworks by: Horfee, Keno, Ilk, Yeemd, Bruce, Mina, 2Shy, Sexy, Tera. DJ Pone as a tribute.

Saucisse Curry or Currywurst is a play-on-words about the famous Berlin specialty from a French perspective. Moreover, it’s a sort of homage from the French homies to the german capital city, its importance in the graffiti world and a personal reference for all the artists.

9 artists will display artworks during a 3 week-span, including Horfee, Keno, Ilk, Yeemd, Bruce, Mina, 2Shy, Sexy as well as a special photographic show by Thorfine who will also sign his new photobook.

Low Roar live in Berlin

LOw Roar 2

After breaking up with his previous band Audrye Sessions, Ryan Karazija moved from sunny California to cold and windy Reykjavik to continue his music journey. His formidable, twilight esque version of « Dancer In The Dark » by Bruce Springsteen (along with versions of Sufjan Stevens and Neil Young), perfectly highlights the talent and skill of Ryan Karazija, the young musician behind Low Roar who was recently joined by drummer and keyboardist Logi Guðmundsson as also Leifur Björnsson and Mike Lindsay (Tunng).

Together they have created a very particular cinematic, melancholic and ghostly sound space, ideal for losing yourself on a frosty morning or rainy night, where Ryan’s ageless voice shines. Their eponymous debut was published in 2011 and their second release (as yet untitled) is just around the corner, a real discovery. Both of the albums were mixed by Andrew Scheps (Adele, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beyonce…).

CONCERT REVIEW

« Low Roar‘s (IS/US) performance had obviously created some buzz because the venue became jam packed right before they got on stage at the relatively early hour of ten to nine. The band’s carefully crafted slow electronic rock soundscape was performed with much confidence. The audience seemed extremely pleased as there was a lot of woo-ing and clapping, a feedback unusual for a performance that one would rather describe as cerebral than upbeat. When the venue became uncomfortably crowded and I stepped back into the hallway to take a few notes, it was only to overhear concert guests discuss their joy and excitement over Low Roar. » Iceland Airwaves festival – Reykjavik Grapevine
