Tatooine: Berlin Edition // Tattoo & Illustration Night

flyer01-tatooine-berlin-800

Special Berlin Edition of TATOOINE at Urban Spree!

After Beijing in September, Tatooine, curated by the Paris-based collective Jekyll et Hyde, will ink Urban Spree during a memorable Halloween night!

Since 3 years, the Tatooine team has been travelling and collecting « flash tattoo » illustrations from a wide range of renowned illustrators and street artists, who, although being quite open to the art, are not professional tattoo artists and therefore their dope designs are seldom seen on human beings.

30 artists from the Tatooine roster will exhibit one flash tattoo illustration in the Urban Spree Galerie with the possibility for the public of being tattooed live! Each design is being inked only once.

After a session in Beijing, China, last September, the collective takes over Berlin for Halloween.

Exhibited artists: 4th Dimension, Amandine Urruty, Bafcat, Dave Shillinglaw, Diskorobot (Klub7), Erber, Erosie, FBS, Fred Menace, Fortifem, Gino, Great, Husk mit navn, ILK, Jay Howell, Jon mac Nair, Keno, Kidcash (Klub7), Neli0, Niark, Nicolas Barrome, Otto Baum (Klub7), Sebastien Touache, Steffie Brocoli, THTF, XVLF, Mark Head, 45Rpm, Samuel Eckert…

Berlin Premiere of the 'Sign Painter' Movie + Workshop

SignPainterMoviePosterMake! Skilled Hands and Urban Spree invite you to the Berlin Premiere of ‘Sign Painters‘, a documentary movie about the art of hand-sign painting. The screening will be enhanced by a special brush lettering workshop with veteran Mike Meyer, also featured in the movie and exceptionally present in Berlin.

The screening will be followed by a party with Urban Spree good buddies Diskorobot (Klub7) and Efalive of the Jazoburbs, and you can always count on their immense vinyl skills to make it funky, groovy, disko and full of good vibes.

There was a time, as recently as the 1980s, when storefronts, murals, banners, barn signs, billboards, and even street signs were all hand-lettered with brush and paint. But, like many skilled trades, the sign industry has been overrun by the techno-fueled promise of quicker and cheaper. The resulting proliferation of computer-designed, die-cut vinyl lettering and inkjet printers has ushered a creeping sameness into our landscape. Fortunately, there is a growing trend to seek out traditional sign painters and a renaissance in the trade.

In 2010 filmmakers Faythe Levine and Sam Macon began documenting these dedicated practitioners, their time-honored methods, and their appreciation for quality and craftsmanship. Sign Painters, the first anecdotal history of the craft, features the stories of more than two dozen sign painters working in cities throughout the United States. The documentary and book profiles sign painters young and old, from the new vanguard working solo to collaborative shops such as San Francisco’s New Bohemia Signs and New York’s Colossal Media’s Sky High Murals.

THE SEXINVADERS
Manuelle Musik
Diskorobot
Aggo York
Kosojuki
Jon Heck
