Urban Spree Galerie is located within a 1700 sqm artistic space dedicated to urban cultures. Set in a vast postindustrial compound in the heart of Berlin, the gallery promotes a grassroots artistic approach, working closely with street & graffiti artists, urban photographers and contemporary artists. The gallery curates independent art shows on a monthly basis. Artist residencies are at the core of our artistic ecosystem. With a mix of permanent and temporary studios, the residencies irrigate by their creativity and artistic contributions what Urban Spree is about.

The artists of the gallery have a strong street practice, and are (with a few exceptions) living and working in Berlin, a city celebrated for its artistic cosmopolitism and strong urban arts DNA.

The artists presented by the gallery for the Urban Art Fair represent a new generation of street artists, whose imaginary is often rooted in comics, video games and remix culture (Mafia_Tabak), who deconstruct graffiti towards abstraction (Kid CashMik ShidaMichal Škapa), who create whole imaginary cityscapes (Hendrik Czakainski), paint delicate huge murals (Twoone) or build tiny elements (Joshua Smith) but also well-known pioneers such as ABOVE.

In addition to his masterpiece “120.630” – exhibited for the first time in Paris – Hendrik Czakainski will also exhibit a sculpture in the public area of Le Carreau du Temple.

Magic Life: A Group Show

For our last show of 2015, we have crafted a group show featuring some of the best free-spirited painting talents in european contemporary urban arts.

‘Magic Life’ unites under one roof the magic wizards of Vienna, aka the Irga Irga Crew (Mik Shida, Fresh Max, Mafia_Tabak and Knarf), the Western Germany spirits of Nartur Kunstgruppe (Henning Bischof, Nils Leimkühler, Moritz Neuhoff und Stefan Wiesnau) and our free electron Resident Artist Johannes Mundinger.

All the 9 invited artists are painters, using walls to express their energy and talent with scale, and are characterized by free brush strokes, extreme free flow, disdain of conveniences, and abstracted graffiti.

The exhibition will open on Saturday 24.10.2015 and will run until 27.11.2015.

Please refer to the Galerie page here for more info about the show. Please request the catalogue of the show to galerie@urbanspree.com
