DYS 2015 festival

A Project Organized, Produced and Curated by
CORPO 6 art project space & Unknown Pleasures Factory.

DYS, that stands for Dionysus – the mediterranean deity of nature and ecstasy -, is a festival that through a multimedia approach – live music sets, performances, video installations, screenings – wants to activate a powerful and über expressive “ambiance”, focusing on the dionysiac efflorescent of the art form. Taken in its antinomic dynamic: organic- non organic; analog – digital; low fi – hi fi; performance – installation; informal – formal.

Its second underlying code of functioning, and thematic reference, is the vanguard creativeness represented by the cultural city hubs, along the decades in the past century: Rome in the fifties; New York in the seventies; Berlin in the eighties and so on.

Creating an alive discourse of interacting links between researches, codes and effectiveness along the time line of the global cultural resistance against desertification and cultural homologation.

The artists have been chosen for their work round the “limen” – the extreme edginess – of their research. In term of the research of the internal dynamic within their medium, the questioning of the mainstream cultural logic, the “physicality/liability” of genders involved. Describing a polisemantic and outrageous celebration of existence.

A dionysian hymn to unity and self empowerment.

La Muerte Roja (Berlin)
La Muerte Roja is purity. Purity of sound. Purity of intentions. La Muerte Roja, adopting different approaches – tonal, atonal, improv, noise – defines, ritualistically, in a high saturated media context – performance, installation, video installation – , a sacred area of being. La Muerte Roja is an oxymoron. Death in life. And vice versa. And it means rebirth. A Circularity of simplicity. La Muerte Roja is a project by Fabio Campagna. Founded in 2011, Berlin. An open collective with which they have been played and performed, in the independent art galleries scene and off-clubs, in Berlin: Fabio Campagna, (semi acoustic guitar, acoustic guitar, vocals, feedback, harmonica), Emanuela Lioy (electric violin, delay, vocals), Alberto Maria Spezzaferro (op synthesizer, electric guitar, percussion), Adolfo Spezzaferro (drums), Bao Vu (electric guitar), Aunin Cervera (synthesizer, liuto), Marco Giani (saxophone), Alejandro Moncada (drums, drum machine), Jordan De Maio (semi acoustic guitar, vocals), Yusuke Yamasaki (performer), Jessica Harris (performer).f

VV & The Void (Berlin/LA/Melbourne)
VV & the Void is a music project by Valentina Veil, a musician, producer artist and curator living between Berlin, LA and Melbourne.
The choice of the name plays on the repetition of the letter V and the logo stands for a visual vortex/spiral of void, a primal force or destructive energy or a triangle, ambiguous symbol of Holy trinity and occult summoning figure. VV’s lyrics often refer to occult and mysticism and unknown forces and energies.
The colors Gold and Black represent much of VV&V’s work often on stage.
Going back to the ancient Egyptians, Mayans, Aztecs, the color Gold symbolizes spiritual illumination, wisdom, beauty, splendor, awareness, alchemy; the opposite of black, expression of mysterious, veiled, esoteric, destructive, abyssal forces..
Her music, often described as shoegaze, drone, noir, atmospheric, goth, neo-psychedelic, experimental is a celebration of opposites energies: grace and disproportion, feminine and masculine, moon and sun, birth and death, angel and devil, light and dark, conscious and unconscious.

L.A.Drones! (Spain/LA)
L.A.DRONES! is a sonic experiment that, without abandoning strong electronic rhythm, joins styles such as Electro, KrautRock, Dub, Acid, Space, Noise, never forgetting melody, through the interaction of loops and drones, with the manipulation of these playing live, and effects being squeezed to the extreme. Voices, two synthetizers, effects modules, plus pedals and two mixers combine in order to generate a unique experience, with improvisation as an essential part of the performance ».

S13 (Secret Thirteen)
S13 aka Justinas Mikulskis is the DJ, curator, promoter, journalist and the mastermind behind the acclaimed experimental music and art platform www.secretthirteen.org . Having started as the producer of ethereal and multilayered drum’n’bass he soon discovered much broader horizons and immersed in the world of experimental /contemporary music, jazz, noise, fieldrecordings, industrial and other genres pushing the boundaries of our sonic perception. However, in his DJ sets and mixes S13 weaves all this diverse palette into a coherent whole, thus constructing interesting sound narratives with unexpected stylistic twists, radical mood swings and powerful, sometimes even surreal atmospherics. Strict rhythmic patterns might be suddenly overturned by abstract drone voyages or disengaged improvisations dismantling the common musical structures.
The recent live achievements of S13 are also quite telling. Having performed in the major Lithuanian festivals and shared the stage with such electronic music projects as Esplendor Geométrico, Emptyset , Demdike Stare , Lebanon Hanover , Polar Inertia , Perc, he recently played in Arma17 gig in Moscow next to Mika Vainio , Fennesz, Atom ™ and Berlin Atonal next to Subtext Records’ artists. The rich musical background allows Justinas to constantly surprise his listeners and always reinvent himself for the new sound researches. It is also reflected in his mixes for such concept music platforms as Electronic Explorations, Experimedia , A Strange Isolated Place , Headphone Commute , Modyfier’s Process mix series and a few others.

INNER8 (Undogmatisch / Farmacia 901)
Inner8 is Daniele Antezza, a multi-faceted thinker and electronic music producer, member of Dadub duo, sound engineer at Artefacts Mastering Studio and Undogmatisch co-founder, whose regular invocation of the term praxis begins to hint at his creative aims: a primary synthesis of contemplation and action that, in turn, encourages a secondary and entirely unpredictable set of syntheses dependent upon the listener’s unique interpretation. Though the Inner8 moniker has been in existence for several years as a private nickname for, as Antezza puts it, his « experimental anarchist sounds, » a full-length LP is just now surfacing which will reveal just how much this project has to communicate.
Daniele also takes pride in the ritualistic quality of Inner8’s live sets; a mobile laboratory of dynamic tension in which his theories manifest as massive physical vibrations.

RETINA.IT (Semantica / Hefty Records / Glacial Movements)
Retina.it (Lino Monaco and Nicola Buono), is born in the first half of 90’s.This duo, placed near the Vesuvio (Naples), explored all the capabilities of analogic synths since the beginnings, developing an its own idea of sound.
The undifferentiated manipulation of sounds extracted from modular and digital synths or objects / environment sound’s recording, leads this original duo to a continuos research of a sonic identity.
Retina.it’s music has been released from labels such as Hefty records (Us) , Mousikelab (It), Flatmate/Storung (Spain) and Glacial Movements (It). They have worked with different personalities of music business and visual arts, such as John Hughes, Marco Messina, Claudio Sinatti, Gabriella Cerritelli, Giorgio Li Calzi , Red Sector A. Moreover, the deep live performing activity has led Retina.it to share important stages of International contest (such as Storung, Sonar…) with prestigious artists like Kraftwerk, Matmos, Telefon Tel aviv,T.A.G.C., Rechenzentrum , Oval, Noto, F. Bretschneider, Plaid, Apparat, Biosphere and many more.

HONZO (3TH Records / Haunter Records)
Davide’s new Honzo project born out of his keen interest in human psychology (primary emotions like fear, anger, sadness, which are common for all humans of all cultures) and desire to reveal the bipolarity of his musical expression. By incorporating submerged futuristic-breakbeats, haunting cinematic soundscapes, cutting edge modulations and the whole dark palette of sonorous sounds, Davide is figuratively painting a dramatic, yet post-apocalyptic and to some extent brutal and hopeless world’s fragment. With his distorted, drony and hallucinatory recordings Davide is definitely building a new musical perspective to techno music. It can be heard at Honzo’s debut 12″ record “In A Bipolar Disorder” which was released in the late 2013. February 2015 will be marked by his new record on 3TH Records. Moreover, Honzo is also working on new material which is planned to be released on Haunter and Arboretum labels.

SUBKUTAN (Vertigo / IfZ)
No pianos, scarce vocals, no light – nevertheless a tapestry of sound that reaches deep beneath the skin. As co-organizer and resident of Vertigo, Subʞutan has quickly made his mark on Leipzig’s electronic music scene and has expanded upon facets of music that, until now, have been painfully missed. His name stands for the melancholic and dark sounds of techno, going beyond the experimental to where a 4/4 pulse finds its place. In Subʞutan’s sets, hard, dry kickdrums stomp tirelessly through a post-industrial tristesse, behind which you can always clearly hear the beating of a human heart.

FAX (Arboretum)
Italian artist, born in 1987, lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
His works encompass from Vjiing, Audio/Visual Interactions, Mapping, Interactive installations to Scenic-design and investigate mostly on the decomposition of micro/macro cosmos.
In 2013 he also founded, together with Marco Berardi (Mogano) and Giuseppe Bifulco (Drøp) the Records Label Arboretum, a cooperative platform for Audio/Video experiments.

VALENTINA BARDAZZI (Undogmatisch)
Valentina is a painter.
“True perfection does not exist, the sense of beauty comes from imperfection.” In the attainment of perfection, there is always the need for some elements of ugliness and of madness. When the ugliness is there, it is often overlooked, either intentionally or unintentionally, but perhaps when it is overlooked, true perfection is obtained.

LIVE
● Spur
● Lola’s Bad
● Martin Steer aka Midimúm
● ABIGAIL

DJ:
● konkrit

It’s time to let that raging cat out of its back and sink its paws in your faces:ANTIME is proud to announce the release of Spur’s debut album »Nowhereland«, set for a physical and digital release in February. Spur himself will stir up an ecstatic »dance of cultures« on Urban Spree’s floor to celebrate the occasion.

Spur will be joined by our favourite rioting grrrrl Lola’s Bad how comes all the way from Greece for one of her much talked about live shows. Or from L.A. Or London. Or from around the corner. We have no clue, really.

ANTIME’s own Martin Steer (aka Midimúm) and label affiliate weirdo ABIGAIL will round off the evening with their highly energetic live performances which takes cues from droning, polyrhythmic Techno (Steer) and jacking Acid sounds (ABIGAIL). Before, inbetween and after sets ANTIME’s communications officer konkrit will alternate between 35 and 45rpm, 70 and 14 bpm and last but not least -8 to +8%.

● Spur LIVE
When young Spur first opened his mouth to emit something that would finally make sense to the world, it wasn’t a single word but a whole sentence. However, some twenty-something years later he prefers expressing himself through music. »Sometimes I really hate myself when I am talking – I’d rather say it with a chord or a progression of notes”, he says. Does he consider music to be an ersatz or maybe even a universal language? Not quite. »I see it as an extension of language.«
https://soundcloud.com/1spur

● Lola’s Bad LIVE
Lola’s Bad is a Greek-born producer, songwriter, director, actress, filmmaker and former dancer/choreographer; a modern day auteur now based in L.A. via London. Her sound is a complex amalgam of Electro-Pop, R&B and Bass music, sometimes introvert and sometimes built for the dancefloor.
http://www.lolasbad.com/

● Martin Steer (aka Midimúm) LIVE
Martin Steer is the founder of the Berlin-based Electronica label ANTIME, guitarist in Frittenbude and sings in pandoras.box. His solo project (formerly called Midimúm) blends abstract, droning Techno with experimental guitar sounds in order to explore new utopias at the interface of analogue and digital means of production. Steer’s music is an ever evolving meeting place of futuristic sounds, dronescapes and sampled bits from the depths of the dark web surfing on noisy beats which occasionally give way to disembodied voices.
https://soundcloud.com/midimum-music

● ABIGAIL LIVE
It’s time to finally fuck up the obsolete balls out discourse that’s been ruling the dancefloors once and for all, create an environment engendering horizontal and vertical individual experiences. ABIGAIL’s game for this kind of game as it’s ABIGAIL’s game. Sample aesthetics meet Acidic Techno. Come prepared.

● On Spur’s »Nowhereland«:
André Wittmann’s debut album under the moniker Spur was made with both the body and the mind in order to indulge in an odd but somehow familiar »dance of cultures« as the young Lübeck-based Bavarian calls it himself. »I find it disturbing to see how all those fields of music are still strictly separated until this day. I’d rather see them all combined«, he explains the idea behind »Nowhereland« which compiles a selection of the best cuts out of 20 to 30 compositions Spur perfected them during a month-long stay in Ghent in early 2014. On »Nowhereland«, semingly odd time signatures form the backbone of what are essentially club-orientated tracks. Spur, who started playing drums as child, took to other instruments like guitar, marimba, violin and piano and whose influences range from Hip Hop to Stravinsky and Flamenco or Gamelan, approaches songwriting both theoretically and intuitively. »I aim at putting the mind and the body in motion«, he sums up the idea behind the uniquely odd but somehow familiar »Nowhereland«.

»Nowhereland« is set for a physical and digital release in February via ANTIME.

C T M # Senyawa / Grün / Bill Kouligas / Rabhi Beaini / Shakleton

Morphine and CTM are extremely pleased to announce an impromptu gathering with Senyawa, an Indonesian duo. They will be supported by live apperances from Morphine’s Rabih Beaini (aka Morphosis) and Grün, and DJ sets from PAN’s Bill Kouligas, and Shackleton – all friends or fans of the duo’s work.

Senyawa

CALLING THE NEW GODS • SENYAWA live in Java from Vincent Moon / Petites Planètes on Vimeo.

Senyawa uniquely manage to embody the aural flavours of Javanese music while exploring the framework of experimental music practice, pushing the boundaries of both traditions. In doing so their music strikes a perfect balance between their avant-garde influences and cultural heritage to create truly contemporary Indonesian music.
Following several Indonesian tours, Senyawa’s mesmerizing live show quickly attracted considerable attention, and was followed by numerous invitations to perform at festivals in Australia and Europe.

 Grün

Berlin-based percussionist and electronic music producer Daniele de Santis appears with a supporting analogue set as Grün – a project dedicated to exploring the colour Green as a portion of the light spectrum as well as archetypal symbol of what is commonly referred to as “nature”. An organic sonic creature that takes shape by controlled interactions between custom-made analogue sythesis modules, field recordings, and acoustic piano parts, Grün’s live improvisation gives life to a deep-bass sonic form resembling over-amplified microbiological worlds.

 Bill Kouligas

billkouligas280114-660x365DJ and producer Bill Kouligas stands behind the landmark electronic and experimental music imprint PAN, which he founded in 2008. A label that quickly garnered praise internationally, PAN does not subscribe to a singular style; rather, it identifies unorthodox expressive voices from different generations and scenes, bringing them into dialogue and exploring their intersections and the ways they reference one another.

 Rabih Beaini

29_rabih_beaini_culturebox_rbma_lassek_8Lebanese-born producer Rabih Beani is known for his grainy, imaginative analog techno and sonic explorations under his own name as well as his Morphosis moniker. While his productions join the dots between dancefloor, raw, elementary electronica, improv and jazz, his Morphine Records label has put forward an equally avant-garde selection of techno from the likes of Madteo, Hieroglyphic Being, and Anthony « Shake » Shakir.

 Shakleton

Shackleton-Sparse-c-Vincent-ArbeletLancashire-born producer Sam Shackleton, now resident in Berlin, emerged in the mid 00s just as dubstep began its international spread. He operated the influential label Skull Disco with Appleblim from 2005-08 and launched another imprint, Woe To The Septic Heart!, in 2010.

Shackleton played in punk bands when growing up and brings the DIY, no-holds-barred ethos to his solo work while embracing an idiosyncratic darkness and fragility. Since his earliest record – Stalker, released as a single sided 7” on the Mordant Music label in 2004 – Shackleton has been an outlier. His singular approach to music making sets his productions apart from dubstep and other genres; he crafts an identifiable aesthetic without shuttering his sound into a particular style. One of the most successful “crossover” stories of dubstep, Shackleton has collaborated with Ricardo Villalobos, T++, and others far removed from South London’s bass scene.
