Ruby My Dear, aka Julien Chastagnol, is a producer, songwriter and live performer who fuses melodic
electronica, IDM and jungle to create a highly inventive and musical brand of breakcore. His tracks mix
dreamlike atmospheres and haunting melodies with sharp, complex rhythms, to take the listener on a
constantly evolving journey through his unique sonic universe.
Julien started his Ruby My Dear project back in 2010 with the release of his DJ Shadow’s “Building Steam
with a Grain of Salt” remix, out on his own label, Reconstruction Productions. Now, four years later, he has
produced 8 EPs on both Peace Off and Acroplane and 2 full length albums on Ad Noiseam.
Performing live is also a large part of Juliens arsenal. He brings his intricate production to the stage to
rework his studio pieces so naturally that it seems effortless. He is captivating and engaging to watch on
stage as he blends sonic beauty with live energy.
Notable appearances have been at the Berghain, Glastonbury, Bang Face, Maschinenfest, Fusion Festival
and club events in every major city throughout Europe.
In 2014 Julien joined forces with a Toulouse artist, Lisa Chabbert, to shoot a movie “Jitter Room” and has
completed a new collaborative EP with Igorrr.
In December 2015 comes a new Ep, Balloon, on Kaometry records.

There are few artists that live up to their name. Julien Caraz aka Monster X is one of those special few. For when he takes to the stage, a monster is truly unleashed, leaving a trail of destruction as witnessed at various raves and festivals all over Europe. The French born sonic hooligan moved to London 10 years ago, after a performance in France caused a small riot among old punks fighting in a record shop, resulting in smashed windows and other damage.

Since then he’s evolved his production and performance abilities, head-banging his way through a myriad of midi controllers, hardware boxes and self-built Reaktor modules that have won him listeners and fans of extreme and abrasive music from Europe to US and Japan. Although a professional radio/TV sound designer by day, it’s his night time persona as Monster X that has gained him notoriety worldwide, both as a live performer and recorded artist.

One of the few whose work manages to balance great precision with great fury, his tracks have seen support from discerning labels such as Ad Noiseam, Peace Off, Tigerbeat6, Combat Recordings, Murder Channel, Fyerhammer, Bedroom Research and Mutant Sniper, to name but a few. This latest work on Abstrakt Reflections shows a deeper, colder ferocity and more mature side to his production. As ever the music remains dystopian and futuristic, yet the not-too-subtle track titles suggest inspiration and anger drawn from current world events.

Urban Spree releases a screen print with Toums

Urban Spree releases a 70 x 90 cm screen print in half tones that has been printed in Berlin at Urban Spree on the occasion of the special release of the Bad Destiny video by French experimental photographer Thomas ‘Toums” Gosset, directed by Stéfane Cales.

The video is a comical journey into the photographic world of Toums and focuses especially on his complex chemically enhanced process and analog set of techniques. In the narrative, we follow Toums from the moment where he takes the photograph to the final paste-up of the image in the street of his native Bordeaux, and going through the whole elaborated development process in between.

The image that is the outcome of the process has been screen printed in Berlin for the occasion in a limited edition and is available in our Berlin shop and on our Urban Spree website here: http://bit.ly/2qq0t0x

Vacant #7

URBAN SPREE & CORPO 6 Present:

VACANT #7
LIVE SETS / SOUND VIDEO PERFORMANCES:
SLOW SLOW LORIS – somatic visual vocal noise music _ berlin
LA MUERTE ROJA – drone concrete noise improv ensemble _ berlin
JERK IN THE CAN – experimental industrial noise pop duo _ vancouver

URBAN SPREE | Revaler Straße 99 _ 10245 Berlin

Vacant is an open platform that investigates since 2012 the communal resonance of different languages.

Performance, experimental live set, video installations will create a different equilibrium, designing a synergy of references.

A public exorcism. An exposure of vital forces. Focusing on inner strength of each media, Vacant proposes an analysis of the art practices as a dense injection of reality into the unreality of daily life. Art as a practice and source of directions versus a daily existence cracked with countless crisis of perspectives.

VACANT #7 ARTISTS:

SLOW SLOW LORIS
somatic visual vocal noise music _ berlin

http://www.slowslowloris.com/
https://soundcloud.com/slow-slow-loris

“An epic, sweeping live performance using vocal melodies, samples, various instruments, live
looping and multiple pedal chains to coax the music out of the noise. They enter raw emotional imagination to give the nuances of one`s subconscious permission to come forth…a sensitive blend of music meeting noise, reaching a wide range of audiences and venues from clubs and festival stages to concert halls and art galleries.”

Slow Slow Loris use voice and electronics to search for the intersections where melody meets noise, emotional meets avant- garde, feminine meets industrial, non-rhythm meets accuracy, and raw meets craft. Following up their debut album, From Monster till Mourning on Staaltape, they look forward to releasing their next album, Of Heroes in Helium soon.

ANY (angela nina yeowell) transmits data through voice and noise music. Along with processed samples,
she plays broken melodies on misshapen instruments, and sings to the resulting waves of intensity and
silence, boredom and splendor. Her espionage of the sub-conscious can sometimes result in visuals, such as
the creation of, and performance with non-musical instruments and sonic costumes.

G6PD (Robert Heim) shapes sculptures of sound with unpredictable outcomes, like subconsciously painting
emotions. With a non-conceptual, experimental approach, he uses and abuses audio, destroys song
structures and music styles, and collages unexpected tunes that often lead into a sonic weird deep electro-
acoustic mess.

LA MUERTE ROJA
drone concrete noise improv ensemble _ berlin

https://soundcloud.com/corpo-6-recordings/syria-la-muerte-roja
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggz6hOj6KDMhttps://www.facebook.com/lamuerterojacorpo6/

La Muerte Roja, adopting different approaches – tonal, atonal, improv, noise – defines, ritualistically, in a high saturated media context – performance, installation, video installation – , a sacred area of being.

La Muerte Roja is an oxymoron. Death in life. And vice versa. And it means rebirth. A Circularity of simplicity.

For VACANT # 7 and for the first time live, La Muerte Roja will perform SYRIA, their last work – published in cassette by CORPO 6 recordings -. SYRIA, recorded in 2016, between Foggia – Apulia, South Est of Italy -, Rome and Berlin evokes the sacrality of a border, where the mystifications of the global power are taking place. And together it tries to embodied the ecstatic cadence of the middle est Zoroastrian rhythms.

La Muerte Roja ensemble, performing SYRIA, will be: Diego Ferri – flute and cassette, Angel Cervera – lute and pedals, Adolfo Spezzaferro – drums, Bianca Ringwald – piano, Fabio Campagna – objects and feedback on electric guitar.
La Muerte Roja will perform live scoring the exp-movie
: -1+1=0.

-1+1=0, shot by Fabio Campagna between 2015-2016 (Video, 41’42’’) closes a trilogy about Berlin. A personal diary through
the eterotopic, free interstices of Berlin in the attempt to present the nude factual – the unpredictability of reality. A route
trough the city. Through its autonomous, dirty, peripheral zones. An ideal map of the liminal spaces of Berlin.

An archetype emerges in the simplest of things. A communal sphere. A sharing, an harmonic unity. A community of
imagination and desire. Resembling the idea of the Mediterranean – medio terrae, the sea, core of our civilization that unifies
the opposites, the North and the South, the Ovest and the East – .

A symbol of Berlin and ultimately of our contemporary
condition. The convergence of the antinomic edges of reality into one single, organic, shape. A sacred uterus that unifies,
combining opposites into the centrality of symmetry. The relation and the equation between opposites is finally exposed – as
the livid fundamental truth. The city reflects upon itself and creates a vacuum that defies contradictions and promote the
inclusion of the different.

JERK IN THE CAN
experimental industrial noise pop duo _ Vancouver

http://jerkinthecan.com/
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eR1TalUYMMo

“Jerk in the Can showcase a balance of eerie dream pop — reminiscent of Australia’s HTRK — that divulges into aggressive industrial noise, taking direct influence from Skinny Puppy or early Nine Inch Nails, sprinkled with an aesthetic suitable for an Insane Clown Posse worship band.

Jerk in the Can have several videos posted to their website, some are performance videos of the band, some are purely
performance art. Synthesizers, drum machine, samples, vocals from Marc and sometimes accompanied by saxophone.

However, the understated, minimalist synthesizer punk Jerk in the Can’s duo create on Big Crime Baby -their last album – goes over much more smoothly than you’d imagine. The eight songs on the album show diversity in sound, structure as well as varying sonic ideas.

Out of damp, reverb drenched, bit-crushed pools of darkness come bouncy analog arps, cheesily dreamy synth pads and big minimal drum machine grooves. These elements coat the clear vocals, which switch from ghostlty ballads and awkward raps to heavily modulated screams of agony.”

CORPO 6, after three years – 2012 / 2014 – in Herzbergstrasse 55, Lichtenberg – area objectified as an elementargedanken
(A. Bastian)- the zone of transmutations – , has been started a nomadic gnosis troughout Berlin.

CORPO 6 is an art project by Fabio Campagna which focuses through a series of crossing media and site specific projects, on
the examination of the concept of limen – border in Latin – within the articulation of the city.

Pink Waves

After a great resonance in 2016 Urban Arts Berin cellebrates this year International Women’s Day with the excellent music festival PINK WAVES with an all female line-up at the legendary Urban Spree!

PINK WAVES is a plattform for a diverse range of female artistic expressions including the dark and noisey side of popular music. We promote sound art, avant-garde & experimental music, but also pagan & ritualistic tunes as well as industrial & noise sounds produced by women and/or music projects that bring women to the front.

For us is very important to de-construct the meaning of femeninity in traditional sense. This is why our program supports also women who hold a femenine-masculine approach. The PINK WAVES artists can be soft and quiet but also laud, irreverent and rebellious. We encourage those women who brake the clitche of femminity and to the ones that represent the noir side of polular music.

PINK WAVES is a plattform where strong and talented women flourish for who they are. Let’s make some noise!!

LINE UP:

BURKAMACHINES

(Germany) – Electronic Noise

Founded in 2010 in Berlin by female artists Chris Dreier (ex Tödliche Doris) and Ursula Döbereiner the noise duo initially played under custom-made white or black burqas and filled various galleries and venues with their aggressive industrial-elektro sound, occasionally using automatons. The band refers to noise, ambient and new music structures adding rhytmic patterns and tape mash-ups to their modular space trips.

(Germany) – Experimental Vocalism

Fake Mistress started as a singer of the dada-performance group The Fake Masters, but is now performing mostly solo. The classical trained voice is her instrument to impersonate various shapes of characters and emotions and thus creating a highly atmospheric music, evoking fragments of films, emotions and stories fusing it to a kind of modern symphony.

The music she composes and performs live is a mixing of field-recordings, her own recordings of instruments and cut-ups of old classical orchestra music vinyls that have been processed, using Linux and open source programms only (Ardour).

N01R (Spain) – New Wave

N01R is the echo of a moment, nostalgia embodied in music, video and photography, trying to capture all those feelings in sonic waves. The topic of the songs is usually about space in connection with the human being, and how we as a humans see ourselves in the universe.

“Everything is sound, and everything influences us.”

It’s like transmit the memory of something from the past or a dream, a vision of something beautiful and blurred.

VIY – (UK) – Dark Industial Techno

Viy is Vera Bremerton’s wilder techno-industrial side. Viy takes Vera’s experimental vocals and laces them with hard, fast, thundering beats and swathes of distorted synths. By means of stacked up layers of screams and noise, Viy seeks to achieve almost unbearable aural intensity. Cathartic, Dionysian, uncompromisingly feminine, her performances are an occasion for the audience to reconnect with their truer instincts. Viy was born and bred in Italy, and is now based in London, where she’s constantly on the prowl for new sounds to sample. Her first album “Amoris Vulnus” wants to denounce sexual violence by recreating the feeling of terror and anguish suffered by the survivors; she’s now working on an project dedicated to women’s affirmative sexuality.
