Guitar Wolf (Japanese: ギターウルフ) is a Japanese garage rock power trio founded in Nagasaki in 1987. The band is known for songs with piercing vocals and an extremely loud style of noise-influenced punk which emphasizes heavy distortion and feedback. They coined the phrase “jet rock ‘n’ roll”, which they also use to describe their musical style – an energetic cross between the Ramones, Link Wray, rockabilly, 77 punk, and garage rock. The band is part of Sony Music Japan’s Ki/oon Records division.

Guitar Wolf has released nine studio albums internationally as well as a live album, numerous singles, and a retrospective compilation called Golden Black. The band members have also been featured in two B-grade science fiction horror movies: Wild Zero and Sore Losers. A collection of Guitar Wolf’s most popular videos and live performances have been compiled into a limited edition DVD titled Red Idol. In March 2005, bassist and founding member Billy, also known as Bass Wolf, died of a heart attack at the age of 38. His replacement in the band, bassist U.G., has become a permanent member of Guitar Wolf and now rounds out the trio which currently consist of band members Seiji (Guitar Wolf): U.G. (Bass Wolf); and Toru (Drum Wolf).

Wolf City presents: Sortilegia Sinmara Almyrkvi II

Sortilegia is the reaper that hides in the fog. The devil chant on a desolate plateau of darkness. The Canadian duo gives minimalistic, raw black metal a new meaning while producing a mesmerizing ritual on stage which has no comparison. On this tour, they are paired up with Iceland extraordinaire Sinmara, their atmospheric side-project Almyrkvi and Leipzig’s own war machine I I. A night of graveless souls, right into the mouth of winter.

Frustration + PUFF + Mommy Boys

What kind of fucking combo is this! Frustration, P.U.F.F., Mommy Boys. It might look like I put these bands under one roof because of their names. But this is pure coincidence, people. When I luckily got to organise the Frustration gig, I turned Berlin upside down with the help of my local friend Isi. But even if the colored city offers many different great bands, I knew I wanted from the beginning P.U.F.F. and Mommy Boys to be the main support to the French band. It really was a mommy boy’s tantrum.

Frustration (post punk, Paris)
The band is rightly seen as the pillar of the French indie scene, which is a considerable achievement given that the French’s musical treasures are often kept secret from the global scene. Frustration may never be in a hurry to release their records, but their gigs are full of urgency. Frustration is finally back to Berlin after two years!

P.U.F.F. (synth punk, Berlin)
In a bar where he works, I told a P.U.F.F. member it would be musically good to associate the band with Frustration without having even seen it live. A few days later when P.U.F.F.’s past and future sounds gave people convulsions at Bei Ruth, I couldn’t stop rubbing my hands like a fucking Universal Music contractor.

Mommy Boys (punk, Berlin)
In many squats in Ostkreuz Mommy Boys have fulfilled my fantasies as a French punk fan going to Berlin. Authentic, terrific, straight to the point. That is PUNK!

So here we are, people. These three bands surprise the audience the first time like an undercover Berlin metro inspector surprises a newcomer. Three so unique bands that you then recognize among many others like the Berlin metro inspector among the passengers. I’m sure they will got you like the fucker caught me.

Book Release & Exhibition: Tacheles-Buch by Stefan Schilling

Urban Spree proudly presents:”TACHELES – die Geschichte des Kunsthauses in Fotografien von Stefan Schilling”, a book release and print exhibition about the story of the defunct and cult Berliner Kunsthaus by one of his longstanding photographers.

In 1990, the artist group Tacheles occupied in a temporary legal vacuum between the fall of the wall and Germany’s reunification parts of the decaying department store Wertheim in Oranienburger Straße and saved it for the time being from demolition. It developed to a unique art, action and event center, which was legendary for its mix of art and chaos. Until its eviction in September 2012, Stefan Schilling documented the history of this unique project with his photographs. He was one of the first who joined the artists’ initiative and the last who was expelled by the police during the evacuation of the area.

Stefan Schilling was part of the the underground Super 8 Film scene in the GDR. During his time at Tacheles he worked as a painter, graphic designer, silk screen printer, curator and photographer. Is currently working as assistant professor for graphic design.

Book Signing and Exhibition

Intervention in German by Andreas Rost (Co-Founder Tacheles, Photographer, Curator, Assistant Professor)

Performance: Marva+Maschin-Klan

Marva+Maschin-Klan (mmk) is a strange objects, selfmade /modified instruments, german experimental noise and electro act founded by Marva H. Kübler in 1988. After beeing vocalist and bassplayer in a few punk / funk /wave bands and a performance artist at several festivals and galleries he started a solo-project with music, video art and strange stage objects. Influenced by the early illegal underground techno and hardcore clubs in Berlin at the time MarvaMK developed during the 90s a simplistic “krautrock-elektro” style and played live at some of the most influential music clubs like the SO36 and Tacheles, EIMER and Tresor Berlin. His videos and “weird” stage effects are used in his own shows but they have also been used in several movies and also by other artists and musicians like Rammstein, Bushido and Yvonne Catterfeld. They used MarvaMks work for their videos and on stage. The MMK also produced video DVDs and various CDs and performed with the band Elektronauten in the Feature Film Goodbye Lenin.
