Agent Side Grinder + Future Section

[aufnahme + wiedergabe] presents:

Agent Side Grinder (SWE) live -> Listen

Sweden’s electronic giants Agent Side Grinder are back with their fifth album “A/X”. This is the first record with their new singer Emanuel Åström and the follow-up to the award-winning
album “Alkimia” from 2015.

From “A/X” we have been treated with two singles: “Doppelgänger” and “Stripdown”. The latter quickly became an underground hit and has been frequently played on Swedish National Radio this winter. It was named “song of the year” in Release Magazine, Synth.nu,
Synthguiden and Elektroskull to name a few. Well-known music journalist Fredrik Strage praised the song on TV4, National morning TV.

The singles introduced a more electronic and danceable sound, but all the elements that have made ASG a genre standout are intact on “A/X”: Metallic beats, infectious basslines, sweeping synth melodies and extremely strong tracks.

“A/X” holds 9 tracks produced by Jon Bordon and contains guest appearances by Gustav Bendt (Club Killers) and the Danish-Canadian coldwave-singer Sally Dige.

Figure Section (BEL) live
– first time live in Germany –
www.figuresection.bandcamp.com
“Figure Section arose from the meeting of Austrian-born musician and actress Olivia Carrère and Belgian industrial / experimental music & techno activist Yannick Franck (⊹ RAUM ⊹, Orphan Swords, Mt Gemini) in Brussels on a theatre stage.

Instantly connecting on a deep level, they quickly became inseparable, unveiling a strange kind of creative euphoria. First composing scores for plays and performances, they found out about their common passion for Cold Wave and Synthpop and getting started as a duo became an obvious thing. Deeply rooted in these genres, the band injects an idiosyncratic, modern spirit into it. Their recurring themes are civilizational and moral decay and the search for inner survival.

Their first Single “Teutonic Knights” which was featured by The Brvtalist, it generated a lot of enthusiastic reactions among the public. The webzine described it as ”infectious wave with an eerie atmosphere and frigid vocals”.

On the occasion of this German debut, Figure Section will introduce their brand new EP.”

Harvey Sutherland

Harvey Sutherland is a producer, DJ and funk synthesizer from Melbourne. After making a name for himself in Australia’s electronic underground, Mike Katz began making international waves in 2013 with a series of releases under his pseudonym Harvey Sutherland. His first EPs were celebrated worldwide by artists such as Gilles Peterson, Jamie xx, Disclosure, The Black Madonna and Pete Tong. He played all sold-out headline shows and performed at renowned festivals such as the Glastonbury Festival.

Musically Harvey Sutherland is mainly influenced by dance music, but doesn’t feel comfortable with its rules. Still rooted in soul, disco and funk, the modern techno universe is not exactly where Harvey feels she belongs. So he always tries to create his own sound world, as he proves in his new project “Amethyst”.

In August we bring the gifted artist to Berlin for a show!

Dark Beats ~ Cold Waves

LIVE: Roberto Auser and Romance Disaster
DJ: Enfant Terrible and åtåmåtån

ROBERTO AUSER has built a name of his own with releases on Viewlexx, Pinkman and Enfant Terrible. Still he stays something like a best kept secret of the Dutch electronic music scene… this mainly due to his output which is never to be pinned to one specific genre or style… His live sets and his release have recently moved more and more into the direction of harsh pounding beats with a dark mood and industrial sounds… and even a true rave spirit… see you on the dance floor!

ROMANCE DISASTER is a Berlin based “woman-machine” live-act founded by Aga Wilk (former 77TM). The music is a blend between techno and dark electro. On stage, besides vocals, Romance Disaster uses drum machines and synthesizers, frequently changing them to make each performance special. For åtåmåtån she has released the great EP “Girls-Guns” with remixes by Millimetric and Ethan Fawkes, packed with beats, stabs and attitude.

What happens when you put together two label heads with a dark beat obsession? You get a great night of music and one hell of a party. That is what åtåmåtån and Enfant Terrible aim at with their Dark Beats ~ Cold Waves night.

This night by åtåmåtån and Enfant Terrible is a synth drive dance night, modern minded with a healthy tribute to the past, not too much looking backwards but also not moving into too much clubby techno regions, more an 80’s and 90’s vibe but also updated with nowadays dark beats.

Expect a lot of new and old EBM, elektro-wave and new beat influenced sounds. But as it is an open minded night anything with a dark beat could find its way to the floor from acid, and (early/dark) techno to elektro and industrial, as long as it’s fit for the dance floor.

ENFANT TERRIBLE is a Dutch independent record label for music and was founded in 2004. The focus is on electronic / experimental (pop) music in styles such as elektro-wave, (post-)techno and ambient. The Gooiland Elektro is known for putting out off-radar dance music and is loved by
dj’s around the world.

ÅTÅMÅTÅN is a Berlin based synth label, founded by Swedish Ella Moe. She was also part of the FlexiWave label and synth duo Colouroïd. The focus of åtåmåtån is to release limited vinyl editions made with love and a strong visual focus in tribute to the 80’s DIY scene. Hand folded, golden, risograph printed, numbered sleeve art and hand stamped or lettered labels. Sounds stretch from dark dreams to club rage.

Christopher Stead: Acid Reign

Urban Spree Galerie presents “Acid Reign“, the first solo show in Germany of the British visual artist Christopher Stead.

Acid Reign is the culmination of a long-term residency at Lab Kalkhost in North Germany. Christopher Stead produced on the shores of the Baltic Sea several large format works, using a process mixing graffiti techniques and natural elements.

Cans of paint are burst with nails, sand and mud is flung. An alchemy between the paint and the land turns into a painterly concrete, cementing ideas, solidifying a tangible truth. The paintings are stuffed into rucksacks and returned to the studio where Ikea bags full of previous endeavours lie dormant ready to rework. A fecund process is born.

The fences used in the supports of the pieces are taken from decaying plots on the train lines.

Rusty fences, transgressed and twisted by nature are transported to the studio. The erosion of the metal emasculates the sterile man-made purity of the material. This gives each painting a story and a history. Every fence painting starts at night on the train tracks with a pair of bolt cutters and finds its way into the light of the studio and finally into the gaze of the public domain.

Artist Statement:

“Once upon a time, on a small island called Great Britain, there lived a lady called Margaret Thatcher. Margaret along with her Tory Party ruled the land with an iron fist and squeezed the living life out of its people. Fed up of a decade of draconian rule, the people began to gather and dance their woes away at their own party. They called this the Acid House party.

Race and class barriers were dissolved as the people united and raved as one big family. The Tory party didn’t like this as they weren’t invited, so they invented a law to stop the gathering of 20 or more people, dancing to the sounds of repetitive beats. Techno, Jungle, call it what you want. It had to stop. Whilst this may sound like a children’s horror story, it was in fact or certainly a young adults nightmare. 30 years on, the nightmare continues. Britain is again been torn apart by the right.

The paintings in Acid Reign were made on the beaches of former East Germany. 30 years ago these beaches were patrolled by the military to stop East Germans defecting to the west. Cans of paint were popped and squeezed upon the sand soaked canvas to create the acid rain.

The works seeks new places to hang. Inspired by Foucault’s concept of heterotopia, it finds solace in spaces of otherness. Informed by a youth growing up free, painting graffiti on the trains. Painting in the dark. Surrounded by fences, along the train tracks, in and on derelict buildings. Buildings which housed these parties. Places of abandon and neglect. Again, the work finds itself back in its familiar territory.

Acid Reign is emblematic of the freedom of movement in open spaces without borders. A freedom which is slowly being choked out of the people once again.”  Christopher Stead

———————————————————————-

Christopher Stead (b. 1974, UK) lives and works in London.

Tangled, torn, popped, squeezed and then hung in spaces of other, the work exists to evade the paradigms of commercial obedience, white cube boredom, and the polarities regimented by cultural hegemony.

Informed by Thatchers dystopian Britain and her Acid House love child, the work explores free movement in spaces without borders.

In 2016 Stead graduated with a First Class BA Hons in Fine Art at the City and Guilds of London Art School, London, where he received the Painter – Stainers Scholarship Prize and Brian Till Art History Thesis Award.
