Marina Zumi: Techno Poetry

Urban Spree Galerie is proud to invite the Argentinian street, light and visual artist Marina Zumi for her first solo show with Urban Spree Galerie. The exhibition’s Opening on September 12th coincides with the closing ceremony of the Berlin UrbanArtWeek.

On this occasion, the Berlin-based artist will create an ambitious presentation of new works on canvas in the gallery space as well as a special immersive light installation in our newly created dark room. Last but not the least, Marina will paint the Urban Spree Artist Wall.

« There´s no light without shadows – always in pairs, always in conflict and often deceptive.
In her work Zumi lives the apparent polarity of the two worlds. The refraction of her crystals, the world of the Shadowen just before the sunrise and her technocratic light installations, address the duel between progress and poetry.

« Techno Poetry » is a snapshot of this artistic balancing act. Marina Zumi can not be an artist without becoming a mathematician. In her creation, technology is much more of a continuation than an exclusion of the poetic.
Thus works have been created that are hermaphrodites between the two poles, seemingly from another lifetime. »

Urban 80’s Festival Vol. II

Urban Spree, TECH NOIR and Babooshka present: Urban 80’s Festival Vol. II feat. Big Mike & Gianni La Bamba, Pardon Moi, Siamese Youth & more TBA
Let’s celebrate our favourite decade with everything NEON, RAD & TASTY at Berlin’s Synth Summer-jam extravaganza!

After the mad premiere last year we are coming back on July 13th to bring you more 80’s Synth madness!
Get ready for ace DJs and performances followed up by a great party until the wee hours of Sunday morning.
Of course, the garden will turn into an exciting 80s playground with themed foods and drinks, a vintage market and other goodies.

Cause we love what we love we will welcome back Big Mike & Gianni La Bamba to Urban Spree! After the new release and their last tour with Finch Asozial these guys will soon be filling stadiums, and to avoid you not getting to see them, we will keep the garden open-air free during the day but sell special tickets in advance for their show starting at 8 pm.

These tickets are limited and will guarantee you access to their gig!

We will gradually spill the beans who will be our other musical acts, but expect the unexpected: very special VIP guests and so much more!

Dress to impress!

Roman Klonek: Cut the Crap

Urban Spree Galerie presents “Cut the Crap“, a new series of woodcut printings by Düsseldorf-based visual artist Roman Klonek that will be exhibited in our Galerie Ecke.

The Opening Cererony will take place on Friday, September 7th, from 19:00 and occurs during Berlin’s Urban Art Week (05-12 September 2018).

In “Cut the Crap”, the traditional craftsmanship of wood carving meets experimental forms of narration. The stories are free of categorical specifications, neither temporally nor spatially clear.

Comparably perhaps most likely with a multi-layered sketchbook, which one may imagine here once the paper would be transparent and everything “drawn” a hopeless gibberish and confusion.

“Maybe I should now mention that I love to make a mess to clean it up afterwards. If it comes to an unexpected coincidence of two or more ideas (which often happens in a natural way), it may well happen that these encounters cause a moment of happiness in me because of their originality.

As far as the combination of ideas or picture elements is concerned, I like to move in the tradition of the so-called B-Movies, which are an alternative to the calculable mainstream cinema, with much more risk-taking and no consideration for conceptual rigor, often show the key features in telling stories – the moments of surprise.”
