"Red Seal" is a 2-colour screen print exclusively produced on the occasion of the VAO Collective art residency and exhibition at Urban Spree in Berlin (22.11.2016 - 02-12.2016).
The screen print, hand-pulled at Urban Spree by master printer Dolly Demoratti, is a large format print (90 x 130 cm) produced in a limited run of 8 prints only.
The motive is reminiscent of an arabic calligraphy, which, alongside L'Atlas geometric and labyrinth-like patterns, is an important part of his art, albeit rarely printed.
About the artist:
Jules Dedet Granel, aka L’Atlas, is a French artist born in 1978. He began doing graffiti in the early 1990s before co-founding the VAO Collective (“Vandales à l’Origine”) in 1996.
Fascinated by the history of handwriting, he has studied calligraphy in several countries, including in the Middle East, and designed his own typography. He frequently works in public spaces and has become a major figure of the Street Art movement and calligraphic abstraction. He lives and works in Paris.
