Factories for mining, carving, and refining of stones and minerals are structures from the “Stone Age” of industrialization. Finding them all over the world, Bernd and Hilla Becher documented them in their signature style, leading us back to the times when physical labor developed from a craft into organized manufacturing.
Jan Kempenaers has been photographing urban and natural landscapes for over two decades. For this series of images, he applies the formal language of the documentary style, with its detached viewpoint emphasising the isolation and desolation of the strange structures in the frame.
