The exhibition *Under the Milky Way* at the Kunstverein Hannover, which has just come to an end, presented exciting works from these scenes across Europe. It was not a graffiti exhibition, but rather showcased an artistic transfer that brings abstract painting and other practices into the museum space. It features raw ideas, irony, autonomous art, as well as conceptual and anarchic approaches. Sometimes emerging uninvited, this is an art form in its own right, at times shaped by political stances, at others by the freedom to do precisely what needs to be done.
The book accompanying the exhibition at the Kunstverein Hannover brings together key figures in this development in a constellation that has never before existed in this form. They come from diverse urban and artistic scenes, yet repeatedly find themselves gathered beneath the Milky Way: with a progressive itch in their fingers that cries out for a freedom of action which seems scarcely possible in broad daylight.
