About
TOPOLOGISMS presents a collection of photographs & sketches from THWRB3AT, using geospatial data to document the topological aesthetics of European railway infrastructures and its implicit structural geometries.
This monographic work showcases over 120 photographs of railway networks, including stations, depots, interchanges and industrial terminals. It highlights the architectural, social, and sensory aspects of our relationship with these transport networks and their striking beauty.
The publication is prefaced by Professor Harry Breda-Beck, whom addresses the origins of industrial forms and examines the morphotopological and aesthetic properties of contemporary transport infrastructures. An essay by Nicolas Ciarlone offers conceptual perspectives on the role of transport infrastructures and sociotechnical systems in our understanding of our build environment, while emphasizing the limitations of « public space » and « non-place » concepts in addressing the singularities of these infrastructural spaces and their relationships with unauthorized art practices.
A rather unusual book.
THWRB3AT is inspired by the railway infrastructures to create his drawings. Once completed, the work takes us back in an abstract and conceptual way to one of the essential media of graffiti: trains.
