About the artist
Hailing from Andalucia, Spain, Dafne Tree (b. 1988) is an accomplished muralist and painter who develops a semi-figurative, post-graffiti, organic approach, inspired by subterranean archeology, cave dwelling, and brutalism in architecture, with elements of abstract shapes and vivid colours.
She is currently a Resident Artist in Urban Spree.
She has been painting walls since 2005, mainly in the streets of Seville. In 2013 she got a Degree in Fine Arts by the University of Seville and in 2012 she got a scholarship to spend one year at the Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton. After that she lived in London working as a drawing assistant for Aleksandra Mir’s projects at The Drawing RoomGallery. In 2016 she came back to Spain and continued her research about new ruins and doing interventions in abandoned plaaces on the outskirts of cities. Her work revolves around the visualization of urban areas affected by processes of change in peripheral zones, carrying out questions about other ways of admiring the lands cape, generating a dialogue between painting and architecture as a symbiosis between both archaeological and current construction elements. Through her work she reviews issues about collective memory, exile, loss of identity and depopulation.
