About

Melanie, Öhner, Stiffel, Limbo, Gero, Anna, and their friends are young and live in Essen when Andreas Weinand spends a lot of time with them and takes photographs between 1988 and 1990.

While the first episode of “The Simpsons” airs in the US, Florence Griffith-Joyner wins three Olympic gold medals in Seoul, the Berlin Wall falls, and Tim Berners-Lee invents the World Wide Web, the storm of youth rages through the clique with a vengeance. The emotional turmoil in their cosmos of invincibility, love, sex, drugs, alcohol, rebellion, crash and resignation is always greater than the world outside.

Weinand needs just 25 pictures to prove it. But what pictures they are. A fabulous series about an indescribable state of mind that goes deeper and deeper the more you look at it.

"(...) a terrific set of pictures (...)"
