Knotenpunkt 17 x Urban Spree

PLANET OF ZEUS
Southern Rock Metal from Athens

http://www.planetofzeus.gr/

Planet of Zeus are a heavy rock band from Athens, Greece. They have been around since 2000, playing extensively throughout their home country, just about anywhere they could, ranging from house parties to stadiums. Right now, Planet Of Zeus are the biggest rock band in Greece, consistently selling out every venue they play. Their annual Athens headlining show attracted more than 3.000 people and set a record of attendance in Greece’s underground rock scene. Their raw, sincere and constantly evolving live performances have secured them a loyal and hardcore underground following, which exceeds Greece’s geographical borders. After 5 consecutive European tours and several high profile festivals (Bloodstock etc), Planet of Zeus were the main support band at Clutch’s 2015 Psychic Warfare European Tour.
Planet of Zeus have released 3 albums. “Eleven the hard way”, was released in April 2008, through Casket Music/ Copro Records (UK). The album, although a debut, received great reviews from magazines, such as Metal Hammer and Kerrang and even Bruce Dickinson featured it on his BBC radio
show. The sophomore album “Macho Libre”, released in May 2011, through B-Otherside Records, was the album, that established the band as a major act in Greece and started creating a European buzz around Planet of Zeus. Since then, their two official music videos, “Leftovers” and “Vanity suit” have become classics. With their third album,“Vigilante”(2014, ihaveadrum records),the band upped the ante and created their own distinct blend of riff heavy, groove laden rock n roll.
At a time in which individualism seems to be the ultimate solution for some, Planet of Zeus come back with their highly anticipated fourth album, “Loyal to the pack”, an ode to the benefits of teamwork. Being well known for their never ending signature heavy riffs, gritty vocals and dancing grooves, the band decided to “shuffle their deck of cards” and embark on a new musical direction, encompassing melody, clean, but heartrending vocals and a newly found sense of dynamics. This mixture seems to establish a signature sound for Planet of Zeus, a sound that takes the listener on a journey throughout the history of heavy music. From Lynyrd Skynyrd to Mastodon, the Allman Brothers Band to Queens of the stone
age and AC/DC to Clutch.

OPERATORS
Rock’n’Rollercoaster from Berlin
https://www.facebook.com/OPERATORSberlin/
https://operators.bandcamp.com/

BIGFOOT
Psychedelic acoustic folk from Israel
Dor Koren (bass/voc) from TREE
https://www.facebook.com/HomeVol3
https://outdors.bandcamp.com/album/bigfoot

Bigfoot is real and living in Israel,
Recording and producing music and art from his own home,
Dor Koren plays every instrument with grace of a mythical story and the magnitude of a wild animal,
Releasing a first album back in 2013, it was still as a home project,
But on the new Ep – BIGFOOT 2016
You can see the world through the eyes of Bigfoot, and take a journey inside, outside and allover the place,
This is one trip you will never return the same from,
Crazed Fuzzed instruments, Jazzy ferocious Drumming by Nave Koren,
An arsenal of keyboards, strings and allot of free spirit,
Only the bravest and most wild souls can endure,
Testing each ones courage and self beliefe
Mythus, legend, folklore tale, Music Odyssey,
The BIGFOOT is here to stay.**

WHAT THE WEEKEND IS GALLERY: A BERLIN GROUP SHOW

From 28.04 to 01.05, the Berlin-based art association THE ART UNION presents WHAT THE WEEKEND IS GALLERY, a group show featuring artworks by 58 Berlin based artists at the Urban Spree Galerie.

The title of the exhibition is a humorous reference to the official Gallery Weekend Berlin, which takes place at the same time. Urban contemporary art is one of Berlin’s defining characteristics, but will hardly be on display at the official Gallery Weekend whose official map doesn’t even cover the area where Urban Spree is located, albeit quite central. THE ART UNION aims to bridge this gap by presenting diverse artistic perspectives following the idea of ONE CITY – ONE WEEKEND – ONE GALLERY – 58 ARTISTS.

The exhibition WHAT THE WEEKEND IS GALLERY is thematically created along the lines of different subgenres and styles of this young genre of art in a non-representative way. The work of all the artists presented in this group show can be found in public spaces, as well as in galleries. Other binding elements are their global citizenship and their generational experience. While all the artists shown at WHAT THE WEEKEND IS GALLERY. are Berlin-based, not all of them are German. Some artists originate from Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Chile, Japan and Canada, while others come from the Netherlands, Peru, Poland, Russia, Switzerland, Spain, Hungary, the USA and the UK. Apart from a few exceptions, all were born after 1980. The exhibition aims to display the richness of urban contemporary art in Berlin. Female artists will not be marginalized, but are in fact a vital part of the group show WHAT THE WEEKEND IS GALLERY.

About THE ART UNION

The non-profit association THE ART UNION is run by key players in the fields of art and culture with expertise in the communication of art, art funding and visual communication. Daily working practice has exemplified a gap between artists, their audience and the art market, which is difficult to overcome. THE ART UNION intends to build a bridge between these aspects and create formats to professionalize artists and initiate discourses within the scenes. The organization of exhibitions and participation in festivals are as much a vital part of the concept as are artist residencies, funding and exchange programmes.

THE ART UNION was founded in 2015 and will receive an entry in the National Register of Associations in the first half of 2016.

Open Air Screening of 'Everybody Street' with a photographic installation by Martha Cooper

10568799_829139180443138_3864849568536326862_nOn Friday August 15th 2014, Urban SpreeUrban NationMobile Kino & W – Doubleyou team up to bring you an exceptional event with the open air projection of Everybody Street, a fascinating documentary on New York City street photography featuring some of Urban Spree’s all-time favorite photographers such as Bruce Davidson, Elliott Erwitt, Joel Meyerowitz, and legendary graffiti & hip hop photographer Martha Cooper.

If you are familiar with the Urban Spree bookstore concept, you know that our hand-picked selection of photobooks is all about street photography, postindustrial sites, urban decay, street art and the underground… So, when Mobile Kino came with the idea of an outdoor screening of this great documentary about NYC street photographers, we were thrilled with the idea, mostly that the film happily blends the genre between street photography in its documentary/classical way with the street art/graffiti scene.

Both the film director –Cheryl Dunn, and Martha Cooper will be exceptionally present for the screening and thereafter.

Cheryl Dunn, who has been documenting the streets of NYC for over two decades, will address the audience through a Q&A session.

1300 images of Martha Cooper will be projected on different screens in a unique gallery installation.

Martha Cooper’s pioneering book (co-authored with Henry Chalfant), ‘Subway Art’, will be available in the bookshop.
