THEE AMAZING ANDY CALIFORNIA
For fans of Hasil Adkins and truck stop shower muggings, ANDY CALIFORNIA has been described as a despicable turd who has crawled out of the ass of the blues and it is easy to imagine that these songs were recorded under a bridge by the light of a barrel fire. You can also find him crashing around onstage with THE MONSIEURS and you may remember his old band, the almighty TUNNEL OF LOVE.
NO ONE MAN BAND
Raw Trash/Blues/Punk solo project of ex-Jack Of Heart and Gaz-Gaz drummer, he’s the bass player of The Hands and he’s screaming and playing guitar in a garagecore band named Les Crotales. No One has already been touring Europe opening for Crank early 2013 and will now support the show of Thee Amazing Andy California for a month across Europe ! Prepare yourselves !
Mobile Kino presents:
This Ain’t California
A documentary on the skateboarding subculture in East Berlin during the 80’s
In 90 minutes, we see the GDR more sharply, more clearly: the skater subculture shows that not all was grey-on-grey and drab clouds of Trabant fumes. This Wildfremd production (Ronald Vietz & Michael Schöbel) by director Martin Persiel takes original clips of the “wheel-board-riders” – straight out of the East German scene in the 80s – and mixes it with animations and reencounters with the protagonists today. It is not just a well thought out story on its own – this film also raises the aesthetic bar. “Skating as freedom” is one of the leitmotifs of this film. Skating “without pressure to be better than someone else,” as one of the main characters puts it, became the goal in hindsight, or, said downright harshly, “the desire for freedom turned lifestyle”. Unbelievable, if not for the simple fact that this Californian fun could find its expression in the GDR.

The David Watts Foundation presents: WINTER
Winter is the project of songwriter Samira Winter, who’s love for guitar music and nostalgic imagery inspired the dream pop/indie rock four piece. Samira grew up in Curitiba, Brazil listening to her American father’s punk records, and her Brazilian mother’s MPB (Brazilian Popular Music) tunes. While living in Boston during her college years she found a love for shoegaze which led to her collaboration with Nolan Eley who recorded and produced Winter’s first EP “Daydreaming” and LP “Supreme Blue Dream”. In 2013 Samira relocated to Los Angeles where the band currently resides working on their upcoming album “Ethereality.” Winter aspires to connect people to their inner child by making blissful, beautiful, dream pop.
US/UK artrock duo Shybits who formed in Berlin in 2017 and signed after their first show to Duchess Box Records. They are a conglomeration of gritty Brighton-beaches and Californian-surf-wax, this clash allows the two to bring a wide range of influences, which pushes forward the traditions of the past 80’s post-punk mixed with sun-tan-lotion and 90’s garage rock.

SACRI MONTI (Heavy Psych I San Diego)
California psychedelic heavy rock champions SACRI MONTI blaze a scorching trail of superb shredding and smoldering riff-o-rama on their Tee Pee Records debut. The self-titled record is a searing smorgasbord of muscular rock that boils ’70s guitar rock down to its purest essence while simultaneously skyrocketing a pathway towards the future of molten heavy psych. Fingers bleed, eardrums implode and craniums collapse when SACRI MONTI cranks up its bit chin’, blistering buzz. Tune in, turn it up and BURN!!
Urban Spree returns for the third consecutive year to the Paris Urban Art Fair
from 12th to 15th of April 2018.
We will be presenting a duo show with two Berlin-based artists represented by the gallery, Hendrik Czakainski (GER) and Tavar Zawacki (USA). Both artists will be present during the Fair.
One of the highlights of the Urban Spree booth will be the presentation of a triptych by Hendrik Czakainski (see below). This artwork in 3 framed panels has a size of 288 cm long by 160 cm high. The german artist is known for his 3D surreal visions of urban and industrial settlements, prone to chaos, uncertainty and destruction, however reaching a formal and hypnotic abstracted beauty.
Urban Spree Prints will also release a limited edition 15-colour screen print set of the triptych work, masterly crafted at the Urban Spree Studios by Dolly Demoratti. This release is exclusive to the fair and will be launched at the Opening.
Urban Spree will also be presenting 6 new medium-sized works on canvas (120 x 90 cm) by Tavar Zawacki aka ABOVE. A further step away from his iconic “arrow” motive towards geometric abstraction and hard-edged painting, Tavar’s new works are subtle trompe l’oeil and variations perfectly executed in a muted color range. We will also introduce a new series of resin cut-out works from the Californian artist.
Tavar will sign copies of his book Metamorphosis – published by Urban Spree Books in September 2017 – on Saturday 14.04 at 16:00 on the Urban Spree booth.
We will also show some calligraphic works on paper by Bisco Smith and Jonas “Sun7” Bournat.
