Age Eternal, Dune Messiah

Instruments of Discipline, Third Coming Records & Premium Abundance present :

Age Eternal (DE) – Release party –
https://ageeternal.bandcamp.com/

Age Eternal is the solo project of german musician and visual artist Lissa Benno. Since 2015, she has been diving into the subconscious to find her own musical language. With reverb-drenched guitars, hypnotic synths and ethereal vocals she creates a dreamy yet heavy haze. Her influences come from a wide variety of musical styles such as Ambient or Krautrock while she is also drawn to pop-music and mysticism.

“Wash Away” is a meditation about change as an universal force that is both fulfilling and terrifying. “Before and throughout the writing of the record I saw myself confronted with significant alterations in my daily life, which I sometimes had a hard time dealing with” says Lissa. The record bows down to that mighty ruthless force that is entrenched into everyone and everything that surrounds us and the potential that lies within it.

This LP is co-released by Third Coming Records (fr), Instruments Of Discipline (de), Premium Abundance (dk).

Dune Messiah (DK)
https://dunemessiah.bandcamp.com/

The man in black fled across the dessert, and the gunslinger followed. With those words, Stephen King begins his Magnum Opus, The Dark Tower. But the phrase might as well be a graphical, description of the neofolk band Dune Messiah.

Hailing from Copenhagen, the three-piece, which is architectured by Magnus Westergaard, shoots through its listener with visceral honesty. Dark, romantic and personal, the band bares itself completely, engulfing the listener in candid stories of love, loss and mysticism told with both finesse and violence.

Dune Messiah released their debut album, The Iron Oak, in March 2017. On the following tour in Europe and Denmark, the band supported American neofolk pioneer King Dude and Drab Majesty.

On stage, Dune Messiah is a blazing, intense experience. Inspired by all forms of art that deals in immuteability (from Leonard Cohen to Edgar Allan Poe and Federico Fellini), the band inescapably channels its demanding themes. It is both terrifying and beautiful to behold.

But no matter the wickedness displayed live, the monstrosities enforced by the instruments or the heartbreaking truths told through the lyrics, Dune Messiah’s raison d’être is to capture and project honesty. A concept that, like the man dressed in black, fleetingly runs ahead in this barren, truthless world.

RA (SE)
https://ramalmo.bandcamp.com/

The four creative souls in RA get their energy out of despair, loss, frustration and restlessness. They started out as a psychedelic rock quintet but after just one EP they sadly lost one of their members. The loss and their life in Malmö are shown in the, recently released mini documentary – RA – Malmö Mentality. The band didn’t dissolve, instead they canalized their friendship into what should become their debut album – Scandinavia. The album is a whirlwind of punk, feedback, haunting vocals, melodic guitar riffs and pounding bass. The album took the band out on the road and it gained a lot of attention around the world, placing them in some kind of Nordic Noir Post-punk file, together with iceage, Holograms, Lust For Youth etc. Other comparisons were made to Deafheaven, Bauhaus, and A Place to Bury Strangers, now that is gone.

Here we have the first release since the album, and the band has moved forward. This is a more electronic sound landscape, it is gloomy, it is staring, slower, melodic, almost romantic but equally intense. We find more members than the drummer and vocalist Simon, behind the microphone, more voices, less noise, contemplation. This is a band that never rests. All held together by producer Joakim Lindberg that has produced everything with the band up to date.

”We left our rough punk sound and tried to explore another feeling, a more romantic feeling. We gave ourself time to think and reflect and worked more with the song structures.”

DJ sets by Louis X Legris (Third Coming Records) & Luna Violenta (Instruments Of Discipline).

Dark folk song-writer OF THE WAND & THE MOON will be on touraccompanied by his full band

Of the Wand & the Moon are one of the big guns of contemporary neofolk. Arriving a generation after founders like Death in June, Sol Invictus, and Current 93, Of the Wand & the Moon have breathed new life into this beautiful and perennially misunderstood genre. OTWATM’s 2011 The Lone Descent LP is widely regarded as a neofolk masterpiece.

Of The Wand & The Moon is the creative live and recorded music works of Danish musician Kim Larsen (not to be confused with the Danish folk singer by the same name) and various guest contributors. After irreconcilable differences with his previous musical project, Saturnus, Larsen began writing music of a different vein, similar in style to his neofolk influences but very different than the doom metal he had previously created.

Characterized by folk songs with themes ranging from expressions of love, loss, joy and ancestral Germanic paganism, Of the Wand & the Moon is best described as experimental, dark ambient neofolk. When their debut album “Nighttime Nightrhymes” came out in 1999 it marked a new entry for Denmark in a new wave of Germanic post-industrial folk projects, alongside contemporaries such as Forseti and Sonne Hagal.

The Holydrug Couple

WHAT THE WEEKEND IS GALLERY: A BERLIN GROUP SHOW

From 28.04 to 01.05, the Berlin-based art association THE ART UNION presents WHAT THE WEEKEND IS GALLERY, a group show featuring artworks by 58 Berlin based artists at the Urban Spree Galerie.

The title of the exhibition is a humorous reference to the official Gallery Weekend Berlin, which takes place at the same time. Urban contemporary art is one of Berlin’s defining characteristics, but will hardly be on display at the official Gallery Weekend whose official map doesn’t even cover the area where Urban Spree is located, albeit quite central. THE ART UNION aims to bridge this gap by presenting diverse artistic perspectives following the idea of ONE CITY – ONE WEEKEND – ONE GALLERY – 58 ARTISTS.

The exhibition WHAT THE WEEKEND IS GALLERY is thematically created along the lines of different subgenres and styles of this young genre of art in a non-representative way. The work of all the artists presented in this group show can be found in public spaces, as well as in galleries. Other binding elements are their global citizenship and their generational experience. While all the artists shown at WHAT THE WEEKEND IS GALLERY. are Berlin-based, not all of them are German. Some artists originate from Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Chile, Japan and Canada, while others come from the Netherlands, Peru, Poland, Russia, Switzerland, Spain, Hungary, the USA and the UK. Apart from a few exceptions, all were born after 1980. The exhibition aims to display the richness of urban contemporary art in Berlin. Female artists will not be marginalized, but are in fact a vital part of the group show WHAT THE WEEKEND IS GALLERY.

About THE ART UNION

The non-profit association THE ART UNION is run by key players in the fields of art and culture with expertise in the communication of art, art funding and visual communication. Daily working practice has exemplified a gap between artists, their audience and the art market, which is difficult to overcome. THE ART UNION intends to build a bridge between these aspects and create formats to professionalize artists and initiate discourses within the scenes. The organization of exhibitions and participation in festivals are as much a vital part of the concept as are artist residencies, funding and exchange programmes.

THE ART UNION was founded in 2015 and will receive an entry in the National Register of Associations in the first half of 2016.
