This time for the course of a full weekend, Force Field is insanely excited to present Gigsta and Aquarian, both masters of their own distinct sounds.

Host of Cashmere Radio’s Frictions show Gigsta + recent Bedouin Records’ signee Aquarian, will be presenting two very different interpretations of bass-heavy sounds, from skeletal riddims to juicy bangers and beyond.
Our one-off weekend will also be presenting several debuting projects: Two first-ever duo sets by Aquarian b2b RO Zar + a first Force Field resident b2b between RO Zar and Misantrop (latter of who will also be playing a solo set). Finally we’re excited to present Wesley, geriatric-digger yet tenderfoot-DJ, Force Field confidant Jonathan Clark.

A regular host on Cashmere Radio with her show Fictions, Gigsta has been working across many fields of musical theory and practice over the last decade. She is currently writing a PhD on Techno Criticism and spends all of her time away from the library, dancing, playing and digging for sounds. Her sets bring together a variety of genres and she explores different tempos, rhythms, colors and sounds with a specific fascination for lower frequencies.

AQUARIAN (04.08)
Aquarian makes raw, arresting and immediate music aimed squarely at the dance floor. His sound draws from both sides of the Atlantic, combining Drexcyian electro, old school jungle and UK grime with vertical singularity. The Canadian born, Brooklyn/Berlin based artist broke out with a trio of records for UNO NYC, with his 2014 self titled EP cementing him as an artist to watch while landing him a mix on Resident Advisor’s coveted podcast series. Since then he has released records through his own culinary-rave imprint, Hanger Management (described by RA as “Aquarian at his best: searing club melodrama, built from whip-crack breaks, ground-splitting bass and acrid techno adornments), also releasing a lauded experimental cassette for Quiet Time Tapes, a standout track on Allergy Season x Discwoman’s Physically Sick compilation and mixing for Rob Booth’s Seminal Electronic Explorations series.
2018 saw his debut collaborative EP with Deapmash (Leisure System) as AQXDM on UAE’s Bedouin Records with early support from the likes of Ben UFO, Objekt, Avalon Emerson, Dax J, and Emmanuel and championed by the likes of Pitchfork, Mixmag and Resident Advisor. The former wrote: “…scrupulously de-signed, hi-def…crisp and propulsive, “Aegis” is more than a slice of dark and unforgiving techno; it’s some sorely needed dancefloor euphoria.”

UUUU is a new outfit featuring Edvard Graham Lewis, Thighpaulsandra, Matthew Simms and Valentina Magaletti.
Individually these humans have implanted feathers in caps such as Coil, Dome, Wire, Tomaga, etc. Collectively they form UUUU, a powerhouse construction of fierce and free sonic exploration, as liberating as it is frightening, resulting in, the richly rewarding. The artists united present a project of exquisite curiosity and confident chaos where the individual thumbprints mesh into a gloriously muscular frenetic free sonic soup. It’s Going All Over The Floor presents itself as a terse meeting between dance, ambient, abstraction and improvisation. The Latent Black Path Of Summons Served proceeds in a tense energy field where random elements bounce around until locking into a fourth world pattern designed to fall into a dense mass of ecstatic noise. Boots with Wings is classic Lewis – a pop tune from the other side of the mind.
UUUU is a schizophrenic seething/soothing masterpiece of a past/present hybrid equally at home in the club, the home and the mind.

Transitional is a project from United Kingdom of musician producer Kevin Laska (Novatron) and long time Justin Broadrick and Kevin Martin collaborator Dave Cochrane who also appears on Greymachine.
This is a band which can deliver both sonic tranquility and extremely heavy slabs of dense music and just about everything in between; Heavy electronic machinery, juggernaut bass lines and hypnotic guitars go from passive relaxation to an unstoppable machine within a single surge.
Kevin Laska’s woven creations of bleak electronic / organic mesmerizing mayhem and bliss has found a new level. Now joined by legendary bassist Dave Cochrane who played with the likes of Kevin Martin in God, Ice and The Bug and Justin Broadrick in Jesu and Head of David.
Born in September 2006 Laska’s found himself in another quality up with Cochrane, following his last collaboration with a.o. Russel Smith and Anthony Difranco (Ramleh, ex Skullflower) as Novatron. Transitional; a solid, textured and dynamic sonic journey through a world that is both self deprecating and enlightening, but either way leaves you wanting more.
In 2009 they added Phil Petrocelli on Transitional’ drums and published their second full length studio album Stomach of the Sun.
From devouring linear drones, lush melancholy to pure unadulterated rage experienced through a back drop of churning rhythms, using Cohesive experimental recording techniques combined with discordant world eating riffs enveloped in a signature approach to atmosphere and interspersing melody.
This performance will mainly consist of material from the bands first two albums “Nothing Real, Nothing Absent” & the unsung “Stomach of the Sun”. A rare opportunity to see a performance from stalwarts of the underground UK Industrial scene.

Next thing was to get a band. I found out the most primitive drummer in Bilbao, Alberto Lopez (ex-La Secta, ex-Yogur, ex-Atom-Rhumba), and the noisiest guitarrists around, Mattin & Xabier Erkizia (ex- Gutariko Bat). The band was formed under my name, it could not have been any other way.

Mendocino County in Northern California is known for its spectacular coastline views, immense redwood trees in ancient forests and abundant nature that remains largely undisturbed by man. It is perhaps the most logical home base for a band like Carlton Melton, who compose and record their music in a geodesic dome (a.k.a. The Dome). It is the perfect setting for a band creating meditative soundtracks freed from the constraints of traditional song composition.
While Carlton Melton’s sound is heavily inspired by psychedelic music, it is equal parts, blues, rock, improvisation and drone. Whether the band is hanging on a well-defined riff reminiscent of Led Zeppelin or Joe Walsh or largely abandoning conventional music structure à la Spacemen 3 and Bardo Pond, Carlton Melton uses layers, textures and repetition to create music that makes full use of the spaces in between notes and chord changes … sonic explorations if you will.
The music that Carlton Melton makes is bold and does not hesitate to “go there” just to see what the heck might be still left out there in the world of unexplored improvisational and psychedelic music. And there is a lot of ground left to explore and cover. Whether it’s in The Dome or in the live setting, Carlton Melton give themselves full permission to realize and create spontaneous sounds and create genuine musical gestures that resonate beautifully with audiences throughout the world. James Welburn’s debut album ‘Hold’, published by Miasmah, was described as “Like watching a massive twisting fire slowly fading into the open skies, accompanied by a drum section so repetitive yet mind bending that you’re unsure if it’s ever going to stop”
Hailing from the UK, but located in both Berlin (DE) and Lillehammer (NO), James has been on a path to catch the perfect drone through the last years, playing an abundance of underground drone and noise sets in Berlin and Norway.
His biography already boasts notable collaborations, such as the one with the legendary drummer Tony Buck of The Necks or those with Tomas Järmyr (of Zu & Motorpsycho), Aidan Baker (of Nadja), Svarte Greiner (aka Erik K Skodvin), Andrea Belfi and the pioneering 60’s New York drone composer Phill Niblock.
Today Welburn performs a live set on the boundary between noise rock and electronica, modifying dirty electric bass sounds with abstract software effects into dark engulfing soundscapes and searing bass drones that breathe with a mysterious forceful energy. A relentless rhythm section drives the music forward, forming epic compositions of sound and noise.

TATSUMI RYUSUI

is a Berlin based musician born in Ehime, Japan. He taught himself to play guitar at the age of 10, and since this point has expanded into the world of circuit bending, the collection of field recordings and building his own instruments. He is active within the experimental music scene in Berlin, where he has lived and worked since 2009.
He predominantly performs with the electric guitar, which he processes along with several self built instruments through a system of pedals and effects to generate delicate, yet powerful and astonishing textures that connect drone with the cathartic side of noise. His sound embodies the sonic transition of everyday sounds into ethereal soundscapes and ambient textural improvisation.

NERVØS! founded in Stjørdal, North Trøndelag, Norway ca 2000/2001 – performing «lydrock» as they call it (or «lautrock» if you wanna be all international about it).
Aiming for a trance state by repetition, blind/stupid rage, and a relation to sound as an overwhelming physical presence.
Each track they relentlessly beat down maximum 1-2 insanely heavy riffs, with filthy as hell distortion, pissed beyond belief vocals and caveman beats from the land before time. Matched with their huge wall of sound, harsh background noise and shifting guitars and drums they will make you crawl on all fours until you forget your mother tongue.

JAMES WELBURN

James Welburn’s debut album ‘Hold’, published by Miasmah, was described as “Like watching a massive twisting fire slowly fading into the open skies, accompanied by a drum section so repetitive yet mind bending that you’re unsure if it’s ever going to stop”
Hailing from the UK, but located in both Berlin (DE) and Lillehammer (NO), James has been on a path to catch the perfect drone through the last years, playing an abundance of underground drone and noise sets in Berlin and Norway.
His biography already boasts notable collaborations, such as the one with the legendary drummer Tony Buck of The Necks or those with Tomas Järmyr (of Zu & Motorpsycho), Aidan Baker (of Nadja), Svarte Greiner (aka Erik K Skodvin), Andrea Belfi and the pioneering 60’s New York drone composer Phill Niblock.
Today Welburn performs a live set on the boundary between noise rock and electronica, modifying dirty electric bass sounds with abstract software effects into dark engulfing soundscapes and searing bass drones that breathe with a mysterious forceful energy. A relentless rhythm section drives the music forward, forming epic compositions of sound and noise.

Human Inferno is an electronic project from Oslo, Norway. They`ve been around, in different mutations, since 2003.

Formed in late 2013 by Baptiste from Brain Pyramid and Benjamin from Huata, FANGE (meaning “mire” in french) is a simple project. Making harsh riffs and hard beats, playing them loud, with a huge amount of distorted sounds and feedbacks.
All you’ll find here is a huge amount of fuzz and distortion, out of hand feedbacks, low tuning and big amps, heavy beats and fat kicks, distorded vocals, wall of noises. Sinking into a dirty and filthy noise-sludge to exorcize the human grime and primal idioms conveyed by all the summer and warm stuff, we are in deep mud.

Their sound is noisy, dark, oppressive, incisive and filthy, both fast and massive.

TATSUMI RYUSUI

is a Berlin based musician born in Ehime, Japan. He taught himself to play guitar at the age of 10, and since this point has expanded into the world of circuit bending, the collection of field recordings and building his own instruments. He is active within the experimental music scene in Berlin, where he has lived and worked since 2009.
He predominantly performs with the electric guitar, which he processes along with several self built instruments through a system of pedals and effects to generate delicate, yet powerful and astonishing textures that connect drone with the cathartic side of noise. His sound embodies the sonic transition of everyday sounds into ethereal soundscapes and ambient textural improvisation.

Kazumoto Endo (Tokyo, Japan)

Since the mid-’90s, japanese noise artist Kazumoto Endo has released albums and eps under his own name and under the alias KILLER BUG. growing up in the ’80s, endo listened to british bands like THE CURE and THE SMITHS, then got turned on to groups such as PUSSY GALORE and BIG BLACK, and began attending live performances by influential noise bands including HANATARASH and HIJOKAIDAN. Endo was, however, unimpressed with how noise music came across on recordings. He wanted to learn to play something different and so took traditional bolivian music classes. It was during this time that Endo purchased the first noise record he was impressed by: MERZBOW’s Cloud cock 00 ground. Endo began buying equipment and making noise around 1990, in addition to continuing his bolivian music classes. Endo began recording in 1994 under the name KILLER BUG, with his first 7″ released on sweden’s releasing Eskimo label. He performed and recorded as KILLER BUG for a couple of years, but eventually dropped the alias. although he most often performs in Tokyo, Endo has also performed in the U.S., in 1995, 1997 and 2016. KAZUMOTO ENDO/ KILLER BUG has releases on labels from around the world, including releasing eskimo (sweden), self abuse, rrr, pinch- a-loaf (u.s.), alien8 recordings (canada), and freak animal (finland).

FACIALMESS (Tokyo, Japan)
Harsh noise project of british ex-pat Kenny Sanderson. Since 1997, Sanderson has been creating cut up harsh noise consisting of found sounds, industrial loops and stabs of percussion. FACIALMESS has released an impressive array of solo and collaborative efforts including work withwith SICKNESS, BASTARD NOISE, GUILTY CONNECTOR and SUPPRESSION. More recent work can be found on labels such as Opal tapes, Kitty play and No rent records. Effortlessly handling knife edge blasts of noise in between pounding sonic loops, sanderson is a master in the shredding and reassembly of his exclusive brand of cut-up harsh noise.
Expect an unmistakable and unforgettable style, blown-out distorted textures, over-the-top volume, sick high-energy passages, frantic cuts, drills, loops, subtle hints of heavy atmospherics…

MAAAA (Warsaw, Poland)
Russian expat Sergei Hanolainen is the conduit for the well oiled machine that is MAAAA; a critically acclaimed Warsaw based noise project that has undergone years of refinement and as a result, has become to play a pivotal role in the concurrent noise climate. MAAAA’s well rehearsed live shows exhibit merciless deliveries of heavy electronics and dizzying drones that induce a physical response not so dissimilar to G forces. As MAAAA continues to mature, his albums strike a blend of classic, neo and underground styles, of the industrial and of the musique concrète, that are progressive, inspired and precise. It is not often that you see an artist so in touch with their machine.

PURGIST (Kielce, Poland)
Dawid Kowalski is a sound artist, improviser, music publisher, culture animator, live event organizer and art activist specializing in radical avant-garde electronic music. an active member of the polish and international underground music community since the early 2000s. Founder of harshnoise.org (“we fight off tyranny of hate which decimates stupid people!”). PURGIST combines a variety of classic experimental music tropes such as object/tape manipulation, electroacoustic improvisation, industrial noise and combines them with extensive digital post-processing placing the end result in a musical context. PURGIST is an outlet for focused exploration of urban field recordings, digital artifacts, aural atmospherics and disjointed noise dynamics. His vivid, cinematic post- industrial harsh noise works have a prominent conceptual background based on a reflection upon personal vices and self-abusive obsessions.

Rylsee’s new monograph “How to Play with Letters” available at Urban Spree

In parallel with his solo show “Other Inbox” at Urban Spree Galerie until Sunday 03.09.2017, the Swiss-born and Urban Spree-based artist Rylsee has just published a new book with Moleskine in Milan.

His first monograph, “How to Play with Letters” is a tour de force in modern typography, illustrating his past 5 years in Berlin with playful, witty & catchy lettering experiments.

For Rylsee, after stations in Geneva and Vancouver, Berlin marked a shift away from his early illustration days to a focus on designing, polishing and scratching letters, a field which is the main focus of this book.

Rooted in graffiti and skateboarding, infused by hiphop, Rylsee’s universe is cool fantasy supplemented by a sharp sense of composition and balance.

His notorious sketchbooks reveal his everyday practice of finding catchy sentences and creating new styles and fonts where letters – unlike the classical art of calligraphy – become glitchy, virused, and melt, albeit always irresistible and funny.

This distorted universe or « dystorpic » as Rylsee would put it – exists by the will of a typographer who blurs the lines of reality and create his own calligraphic spell.

Rylsee recycles his everyday experiences and thoughts and turn them into proverbial low-fi sentences such as « Never trust someone who doesn’t like pizza », « I wish you could be as cute as your profile picture » or « Too shy to rap » to name but a few.

Using only his drawing skills, Rylsee becomes the modern alchemist, plotting numerous optical illusions in 2D to make them look like native 3D. In Rylsee’s universe, 2D and 3D coalesce, but the craftsman, the pen, and the illusion maker takes the lead.
