Night Shift ft. Fragrance.

𝔉𝔬𝔯𝔢𝔫𝔰𝔦𝔠𝔰 presents: Night Shift

The sun comes down and with it the day shift comes to an end. It is time for the night shift to take over.

Creatures of the night, replicants, angelic faces and spectators hungry for strangeness give themselves to the carefreeness of the 80s in a club turned for a night into a house of the underground.

For its sixth edition, Night Shift warms up for the winter and invites new faces to its stage, including a friend of the 𝔉𝔬𝔯𝔢𝔫𝔰𝔦𝔠𝔰 collective straight from Paris: Fragrance.

On the program: Fragrance LIVE, Drag Shows, New Wave, Synthpop, Dark Wave, Goth, Minimal Wave, EBM, Post-Punk, Italo-disco and Retro Wave.

Night Shift is a LGBT+, hetero-inclusive bimestrial event.
We pride ourselves on being a safe space for LGBTQIA+ individuals and their allies.
All of our DJs and our drag performers are individuals who identify as being part of a counter-culture and our drag shows also fall under the umbrella of our music genres for a complete immersive experience.

❯ Fragrance. [Paris]
Fragrance. is a project founded by Matthieu Roche in Paris at the end of 2015, as an outlet for his anxieties & fascinations. His music is always on the edge between melancholic synthpop and dark & dancing electronics, where his heady soft vocals meet catchy 90’s influenced beats.

Hendrik Czakainski returns to Urban Spree with his 3rd solo show “SWITCH-OVER”

Urban Spree Galerie presents “SWITCH-OVER“, the third solo exhibition of the Berlin-based visual artist Hendrik Czakainski at Urban Spree Galerie.

Hendrik Czakainski’s materia prima is the urban matter captured at different stages of dereliction. Adopting a bird’s eye view, the artist creates large-scale post-architectural panels which are dark anatomical explorations of the urban body.

The artist becomes a forensic architect, collecting evidence of disasters, past, present and future, incorporating them in surreal compositions of large proportions, creating 3-dimensional landscapes which have become void of human presence and frightfully beautiful at the same time. His creations bring us to a state of contemplation and fascination, owing to the combination of shape and colour.

His monumental cuts, holes, and excisions to his fantastic architectural matter reach us beyond the scope of architecture and strip down those man-made artefacts to the minimum, lay them bare, and essentially on the brink of abstraction.

In SWITCH-OVER, the artist distantiates himself from the highly densified housing settlements he has been creating in the past years to pursue a more radical approach. His apocalyptic tableaux give away few clues as to when the mutations happened, what exactly happened, how was it even possible to switch from one state to the next, and which situation we are actually in, leaving the spectator forging his own clues. Are we investigating a foregone reality, are we already processing the next move, or are we trapped in between ?

In his new compositions, we ask ourselves if humanity is still part of the global equation or if the tipping point has been already reached; if a reversal is even possible.

Most works of the show are constructed in two or three parts, creating a dynamic impulse, searching for life in interstitial space, infusing tension, and establishing a mutual dialog, a new social contract of what’s left.

Wolf City presents: Pissgrave, Necrot, Undergang

The rotten wood gives way, once exposed again to the fresh air of the cemetary, many years after being interred. A purulent ejection of filthy liquids pours out from the open casket. The river of sickness trickles down all the way to the garden of Urban Spree, where it coalesces to form a bunch of creatures, human only in shape. They take the stage. They seal the doors. Trapped in the venue, everybody is consumed by the hellish noise. Only Death is real!

Pissgrave and Necrot crossed the Atlantic to fill these lands with the stench of death, Undergang were summoned from Denmark to accompany them in this horrible journey. Pestilent death metal is the key to the gate. Rise, and join!

Night Shift ft. Paradox Obscur + Open Drag Stage

𝔉𝔬𝔯𝔢𝔫𝔰𝔦𝔠𝔰 presents: Night Shift
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 2018
00H00 – 06H00+
URBAN SPREE

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

The sun comes down and with it the day shift comes to an end. It is time for the night shift to take over.

Creatures of the night, replicants, angelic faces and spectators hungry for strangeness give themselves to the carefreeness of the 80s in a club turned for a night into a house of the underground.

On the program: Paradox Obscur LIVE, Drag Shows, New Wave, Synthpop, Dark Wave, Goth, Minimal Wave, EBM, Post-Punk, Italo-disco and Retro Wave.

For its fifth edition, Night Shift comes back from a long summer break with a bang! We’re going back to our original format with one room but are tripling our stage performances.
The live stage will be taken over by very special international guests: emblematic Greek duo Paradox Obscur!

Paradox Obscur were formed in January 2014 by Toxic Razor & Kriistal Ann in order to step into a more minimal direction than their previous projects and haul a diverse universe consisting of dark hardware synthesizers under a cold drape of spiraling electronics.
Their live shows are characterized by the raw energy and extended passionate female vocals.

Listen to Dark Fortress:

On the drag stage, our hostess Ghōst will be joined by fresh faces of the Berlin drag scene. They will have the pleasure of sharing their art with you, some of them for the very first time, and offering you a show always darker but always more fun!

At the DJ booth, our resident DJs Al Niklaus and Inept Pernicious will be joined by Mr. Manic.
They will take you back to the sweet effervescence of the 80s with New Wave, Synthpop, Dark Wave, Goth, Minimal Wave, EBM, Post-Punk, Italo-disco and Retro Wave beats.

Night Shift is a LGBT+, hetero-inclusive bimestrial event.

We pride ourselves on being a safe space for LGBTQIA+ individuals, their allies, and women: our team consists predominantly of female-identified and queer-identified folks.
All of our DJs and our drag performers are individuals who identify as being part of a counter-culture and our drag shows also fall under the umbrella of our music genres for a complete immersive experience.

Urban Spree participates to Berlin’s first “Urban Art Week”

From 05 to 12 September 2018, Urban Spree will be part of the first URBAN ART WEEK, a new format for the Urban Art movement, which will be launched throughout Berlin. The Opening Night will happen at Urban Spree on the 05/09.

The Urban Art Week presents a comprehensive program and insights into the participating locations and projects under one roof. The format serves both to make Urban Art visible and to mediate, as well as to improve networking between local actors.

The URBAN ART WEEK provides insights into the locations and work of the participants, who present their own program for the URBAN ART WEEK. This gives visitors the opportunity to get to know Urban Art, Street art and Graffiti Writing within one week. The art program includes numerous exhibitions in galleries, project rooms, art spaces and institutions as well as performances, live painting and artistically designed walls.

A supporting program accompanies the URBAN ART WEEK: workshops by experts offer professional training and useful information for the daily work of artists and cultural workers. The two-day film program shows experimental films, portraits and documentaries about the French and German scene. Daily Street Art tours by local experts give visitors an insight into Urban Art in Berlin. Artists offer workshops for all ages to try out different techniques.

In Berlin, Urban Art has become an integral part of the cityscape, and large murals and surprising interventions in urban space can be found regularly. The city and its marketing is also adorned with the colourful paintings of its Urban Art artists, as is the local creative industry. But is there a dialogue between the scene and the city? Where is the line drawn between professional art and exploitation through increasingly fast-moving advertising purposes? Do we still have to ask the question whether Urban Art is art at all? The first URBAN ART WEEK pursues these thought-provoking impulses. In addition to discussions with representatives from city politics and local art institutions, the scene meets at workshops and symposia to discuss the concept of Urban Art and its own self- image. The week should leave something behind for the Berlin scene, it should convey a lasting value to the fast-moving Urban Art and create a basis for future communication.

Urban Art in Berlin has been around for decades and the media attention for it has increased. Berlin’s claim as an Urban Art Mecca is not only demonstrated by the last major exhibition projects with record attendance. The many small and independent art venues, project spaces and freelance artists who have been active in Berlin since the 1980s, have created the breeding ground for the subversive Berlin mix, that now makes the capital so attractive. URBAN ART WEEK is committed to their recognition and networking and ennobles the local scene with a gold medal – because Urban Art has actually earned this here for a long time. The program booklet with a city map, a website and a broad publicity campaign in German and English will accompany the week from 5 to 12 September 2018.
