Hexvessel (Fin) + Dolch (Berlin)

Sounds from the finnish forest, echoing in the catacombs of Berlin. Masked figures chasing snakes among trees and mushrooms. A celebration of the obscure and magical.

It was in 2009 that Mat McNerney settled down in Finland – the oddball country of Scandinavia, where the humour is as dark as the winter afternoons and the nature as breathtaking as their moonshine. Originally from the UK, he came here via stints in Norway and Holland, already with weight to his name in the underground of extreme and avantgarde metal music, having sung and written in bands like Dødheimsgard and Code among many more, sometimes under the moniker of Kvohst. Later, he achieved success with modern post punk darlings Beastmilk and its spin-off Grave Pleasures.

In Finland he found his “kin”, and there he invoked Hexvessel – a band founded to voice Mat’s inner self, and to connect it with the vast cosmic infinity around him. Simply: to play psychedelic music in the true sense of the term.

More like a commune than a regular band, the spirit surrounding the group invokes a vision of a bunch of Northern heathens coming to live in Laurel Canyon in the late 1960’s. Sonically, it’s more the other way around; Joni Mitchell and The Doors set free in the Finnish wilderness (quite possibly intoxicated under the midnight sun).

Hexvessel is rock but never roll – balancing the simple folk tune with psychedelic drive, hinting at Captain Beefheart, King Crimson and The Beatles as well as the dewy-eyed Americana that contemporary folk artists like First Aid Kit have adapted and re-defined. Stirred together, this makes for one truly unique brew of timeless storytelling and song craft.

Since the release of their debut album in 2011 the band has sold out headline tours in their homeland, been nominated for 2 Finnish Grammy awards, toured Europe together with bands like Sabbath Assembly and Alcest, played prestigious festivals like Roadburn in Holland and SXSW in Texas, and seen their music on the charts and on critics lists. This strange pack of Finns have succeeded in creating their own world, of which an ever-increasing number of curious outsiders are hungry to take part.

Come January 2016, Hexvessel’s third album will be out. Their first release licensed to Century Media Records via their own Secret Trees label imprint. A body of work that Mat McNerney says is his most personal to date. Moving into the next phase, further probing into the mysteries and wonders of life, love and death – the question is ultimately turned to the listener;

Castle – Albez Duz

CASTLE is pleased to announce the release of their breakout fourth full-length this Summer via Ván Records worldwide.

Titled Welcome To The Graveyard, the follow up to 2014’s critically-lauded Under Siege was recorded by Billy Anderson (Sleep, Neurosis, Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth, Eyehategod, Ommadon et al) at Type Foundry Studios in Portland, Oregon this past Winter. Welcome To The Graveyard is set for official unveiling July 15th.

Comprised of 8 tracks written over the last year, Welcome To The Graveyard sees CASTLE merge their doom powered riffing with soaring 1970s rock . The album features a new level of confident songwriting and is a creepy-crawl through the wastelands of the band’s new L.A. home; a hard-boiled barrage of classic heavy metal riffery tempered with blasts of melodic orchestrated doom. The perfect soundtrack for a Hollywood cult initiation.

Elizabeth Blackwell’s haunted vocal style draws a sigil of death and madness – imagine the Wilson sisters singing hymns from the stygian void, while lyrically CASTLE adapt the stark and compelling vistas of Aleister Crowley’s “Amphora” for the song “Traitors Rune” and Eliphas Levi’s “Transcendental Magic”, whose mystic rumination inspires the lyrical backdrop for the lead-off single “Flash of the Pentagram”.

CASTLE was forged in San Francisco in 2009 and released their debut full-length, In Witch Order, on Germany’s Ván Records in 2011. The album brought light to the newly-formed band and earned them “Album Of The Year” honors from Metal Hammer Norway, as well as Roadburn Festival’s “Newcomer Of The Year.” Shortly thereafter, the band joined the Prosthetic Records roster in North America and released their critically-adored sophomore album Blacklands. The record left to a Canadian JUNO nomination for “Metal/Hard Music Album Of The Year.” CASTLE performed over two-hundred shows worldwide in support of the release alongside the likes of The Sword, Conan, Intronaut and Pentagram among many others as well as appearances at some of the underground’s largest fests including Roadburn and the London and Berlin Desertfests.

Since the release of Under Siege in 2014, CASTLE, which consists of vocalist/bassist Liz Blackwell, guitarist/vocalist Mat Davis and drummer Al McCartney, has maintained a relentless touring schedule with multiple expeditions throughout the US, Europe and Canada including stops at the 2015 edition of Heavy Days In Doomtown Fest in Copenhagen, Denmark and the Acherontic Arts Fest in Oberhausen, Germany.

CASTLE, who recently announced a three week run of tour dates around their appearance at the Maryland Doom Fest on June 24 will continue touring across the U.S. throughout July and August with the announcement of 32 additional dates. The month-long headlining trek, which follows the release of “Welcome to the Graveyard”, commences July 17 in Fullerton, CA. Expect Canadian and European dates in support of “Welcome To The Graveyard”.

Occult doom rock band ALBEZ DUZ emerged from the dark corners of Berlin in 2006. Formed by Eugen “Impurus” Herbst initially as a one-man side project, the band’s ominous debut was recorded in 2009 with singer Lars Kaeding; but after Kaeding’s death, the band stepped into the shadows for the next three years. With a lingering fire and purpose, Herbst continued to write for ALBEZ DUZ , and after an exhaustive search crossed paths with Alfonso Brito whose voice seemed destined for the project. In September 2014, the duo brought the band’s second album “The Coming of Mictlan” to life via Iron Bonehead Records and Archaic Sound. They began performing live shortly after.

ALBEZ DUZ has since shared the stage with iconic acts such as PRIMORDIAL and SWANS as well as other rising talent including BÖLZER, ASCENSION and HEXVESSEL. In a short time, the Berliners established themselves as a force in the European underground and elicited high praise from both critics and audiences alike. ALBEZ DUZ recently entered The Source Studios Munich to record its third full-length album, “Wings of Tzinacan”, with producer and audio engineer Michael Zech ( SECRETS OF THE MOON, TRIPTYKON, ASCENSION ). Guitarist Julia Neuman has joined their ranks, solidifying the band as an unstoppable power trio.

With a twilight performance at the prestigious Speckjaga Funkenflug Festival already checked off the band’s list in 2016, and other appearances scheduled at In Flammen Open Air, De Mortem et Diabolum and more, ALBEZ DUZ is burning its flame higher and brighter, ready to cast a spell on the globe and initiate a new chapter in doom. The gates are open !
