#StillSTAND Project’s Vorspiel: Johannes Mundinger and Señor Schnu

Just before the official kickoff of our Still STAND project where 4 applications to paint the Urban Spree Artist Wall have been selected – out of 89 submissions – and will unfold over the course of June and July 2020, both Johannes Mundinger and Señor Schnu wanted to give a face lift to the wall after a long winter, and Corona oblige, actually much longer than we had anticipated.

Johannes Mundinger at Urban Spree, April 2020

Johannes Mundinger painted the large wall at Urban Spree mid-April 2020 (his third take on the wall, setting thereby a new record) with an abstract composition in tune with the “Leave No One Behind” campaign to repatriate refugee children from camps in Greece.

Shortly after, Señor Schnu took over the Wall with a vibrant composition assembling different elements from propaganda, economics, and positive symbols to make a statement: “We can’t return to normal, because the normal we had was precisely the problem” or how legitimate aspirations to “get back to normal” owing to the corona crisis must instead give way to healthier relationships and a different way to create social links.

As the Still STAND team started to get together for the first upcoming wall of the project, our drone photographer, Lukas Stiller, managed to take spectacular shots of the wall at dusk.

Johannes Mundinger – Unterm Nebel

‘The impressions we have aren´t reliable, it was a lifetime ago and now we have vague feelings of atmospheres, colours and smells; everything else remains inside a dense fog that psychiatry calls the consciousness.

There are a few images that remain in our memory, from our early years we don’t remember them but they form us. Our behaviours, our personalities and our lives all rely on those things we think we have forgotten.

Mundinger uses these fragments that are left, he plays with these early influences of images blurring into memories addressing the canvas as if he would recall a moment locked in his own mind capsule.
Mundinger plays with the repetition of reality as every painter does yet he explores intuitive gestures and unconscious sequences that gives a detached feeling to the works and allows the viewer to play with their own set of aesthetic beliefs.’

Johannes Mundinger solo show ‘Unterm Nebel’ opens on March 4th

In less than 3 days opens the first solo show of Berlin-based artist Johannes Mundinger. In addition to panting the Urban Spree Artist Wall (12 x 7 meters, featured here) and presenting a new series of large format paintings, Johannes is painting a very large canvas directly in the gallery. The 8,50m x 2,5m is a reinterpretation of the theme of the main wall, the exploration of what remains of early age memories and their subsequent layering out in the adult painter’s psyche.

The trailer of the show is directed by our Berlin friends of Editude Pictures.

Johannes Mundinger completes the first Urban Spree mural of 2016

As part of his upcoming solo show ‘Unterm Nebel’ at Urban Spree Galerie (opening on March 4th, 2016), Berlin based street artist Johannes Mundinger completed the Urban Spree Artist Wall in February 2016. The wall becomes the first visible part of the exhibition, introducing the main theme of the show, the exploration of early childhood’s first and long forgotten memories, .
