Igor Revelis/Klone: The be(Longing)

Urban Spree Galerie presents “The be(Longing)”, the 3rd solo exhibition of Tel-Aviv based artist Igor Revelis a.k.a. Klone with Urban Spree Galerie.

After a decade exploring the medium of paper, “The be(Longing)” marks the return of the artist to the medium of canvas. Bringing his spray can technique of shadows and gradients to perfection, Klone paints monochrome compositions where the matter of the canvas blends into geometric shapes and abstract landscapes.

“The be(Longing) is an investigation of hybrid identity, a portal into a parallel realm tucked away from the increasingly globalized and visually homologized world. Set against the backdrop of dark gallery walls, restless portraits and landscapes can be peered at, stripped of all contextual clues, the painful human relation between object-subject tugs at the primal root of abstraction. There are no nouns in this landscape, everything is a verb, the gaze is an action.” Mika Bar-On Nesher

A few signed copies of the latest artist’s monograph – “FEWMOMENTSAGOIWASHERE”,  looking over the last 8 years of exhibitions, mural projects, installation, and animations, will be available at the opening.

Klone (b.1983) is an Ukrianian-born, Tel-Aviv based street artist, a pioneer of graffiti in Israel and a visual artist

Klone’s new solo exhibition “Everything is happening”

Urban Spree Galerie is particularly happy to announce Klone’s new solo exhibition “Everything is happening”, opening on 11.08.2016.

Tel-Aviv based artist Klone was the first to ever exhibit at Urban Spree, back in summer 2012, where he produced an epic 50-meter long installation of paper cuts and painted characters in the whole gallery space, as can be seen in the video below.

Four years later, Klone comes back to Berlin and Urban Spree with his new solo show entitled “Everything is happening“. As with the seminal exhibition, some work was prepared in his Tel-Aviv studio but finalized in Berlin over a 2-week residency.

While the first installation was entirely paper-based, the new installation extensively combines painting with digital techniques such as stop motion animation, loops and mapping to vividly translate the artist’s longstanding obsession with memory. “Everything is happening“ showcases random memories and experiences, imagined and real ones, which are sensed through a series of projections. Stop motion animations are depicted onto the wall by painting and erasing, and in this way constantly giving up and away moments and experiments, a constant process.

Common Cause2

According to Klone, we are constantly bombed by the mass media with a visual overload, to the point where we can’t be sure anymore which of our memories are real and whether we actually experienced them. Thus, the artist refers to the psychological phenomenon of “false memory“ in which a person recalls a memory that did not occur.

The exhibition has been built specifically for this space and moment in time.

NEW LAND. A solo exhibition by klone

Urban Spree Gallery is proud to announce the first solo exhibition in Berlin by Israeli contemporary artist klone.

Having started graffiti in Tel Aviv in 1999, klone is considered as the pioneer of the local graffiti scene and today’s most prominent street artist in Tel Aviv, where his stunning murals adorn the derelict and ghost areas of the city. Over the years, in parallel to his outside work, klone has developed a more intimate practice with watercolors, drawings and collages, which form the inside part of his artist’s personal and complex universe.

Rooted with distorted, lost memories from his childhood in the USSR, shaped by his street work and acute perception of the environment, his artwork reflects his obsession with duplicity, multiplication and transmutation, adorned with eerie mythological bestiary and ubiquitous spirits.

His artwork is an endless questioning about the surface and deepness of living creatures, a sense of loss and the urge for creation.

Titled “NEW LAND. we need new land“, klone’s all new body of works for his solo show consists of watercolors on paper, collage works and ink drawings. The exhibition will also host what is klone’s largest and most ambitious paper installation to date.

In connexion with the exhibition, klone will be releasing a limited edition screen print on paper in collaboration with Mother Drucker’s print studio, hand-pulled at the Urban Spree Ateliers. Also exclusive for the Berlin show, klone will introduce and sign his new artist’s book, self- and hand-published.
