La Vallée/BAF at Urban Spree

Urban Spree invites our Brussels-based friends from LaVallée and Brussels Art Factory for a week-end long mini festival in Berlin focused around arts, music, workshops, and performances!

Opening on Friday 01.06, we start the evening with the Opening of “Balance”, a solo presentation of new works by the famed belgian duo Hell’o in our main galerie space. Running in parallel with their retrospective museum solo show at the BAM in Mons (Musée des Beaux-Arts de Mons, Belgium), “Balance” brings a new series of paintings on canvas and drawings on paper to the Berlin audience. Hell’o will also sign their new monograph “Untitled Oddyssey”, published early May by Maison CFC – éditions & librairie. Urban Spree Prints will also release 2 screenprints specially made by the duo for the occasion.

The Brussels-based collectives Farm Prod and Ice Screen will display recent original works and prints in our Galerie “Ecke” and run various screen printing workshops during the weekend.

Fred Penelle & Yannick Jacquet from the collective Antivj will present “Mécaniques discursives”, an immersive installation mixing etchings, prints and video projections.

On Saturday evening, the visual and street artist Vincent Glowinski a.k.a. BONOM and the drummer Teun Verbruggen will present their performance “Duo à l’encre” in our garden. Bonom will sign his 2 published monographs on Saturday in our bookshop.

Book Launch: “The Graffiti Trucks of Paris” by Marc Vallée

Urban Spree invites you to the Berlin launch party of The Graffiti Trucks of Paris by Marc Vallée.

London based documentary photographer Marc Vallée is back at Urban Spree on Friday 21 July 2017 to launch the second edition The Graffiti Trucks of Paris with a photographic installation of images from the photozine.

“The pictures here highlight how artists have brought the creative activism of subversive graffiti into (or onto) these commercialised infrastructures of urban mobility. As trucks and vans move consumable goods of the elite urban economy around the city, they carry with them the viruses of activism. Like the New York subway trains in the 1970s, the graffiti trucks of Paris are a mobile gallery of graffiti and its affront to the sterile spaces of urban commodity movement.” – Dr. Oli Mould.

With a foreword by human geographer Dr. Oli Mould The Graffiti Trucks of Paris was published in March 2017 and featured in Huck Magazine, HERO Magazine and Tate Britain acquired a copy for its library collection.

Vandals, An Evening with Marc Vallée

Urban Spree Galerie invites you to an exhibition and talk with London-based documentary photographer Marc Vallée on the occasion of the release of his new zine Vandals and the City.

With a forward by urban geographer Dr. Oliver Zanetti, Vandals and the City is Marc’s eighth self-published zine and documents a London graffiti crew.

Marc is best known for exploring the tension between public and private space in the context of contemporary youth culture.  His work is visually polemic and rejects the notion of impartiality.  Graffiti, defensible architecture, skateboarding and political dissent are just some of the subjects he has documented over a career of more then twenty years.
