Urban Spree is proud to present the Berlin Premiere of Amo-Te Lisboa, a 1-hour documentary fiction on the art of illegal painting in the portuguese capital, in the presence of the movie makers.

Directed by Canemorto and Iso3200, the film revolves around 3 painters who worship a cruel dead-dog divinity, called Txakurra, which gives them the power to paint together as a single person, hitting public walls in order to spread its cult. Thanks to this evil spell, they gradually get fame and recognition in the street art world, forgetting their real mission. When the international career of the trio is taking off, Txakurra orders them to cancel their commitments and go to Lisbon for two months and paint brutally in the streets. The three friends are desperate, they know that their promising career will be fucked up forever, but they are too frightened to deceive the malicious god…

The film is a dark & rough exploration of Lisbon and features Borondo, Cane Morto, Caso, Gab Respar, Porco, Run & Slika.

There will also be a series of hand pulled screen prints specially produced for the movie by the studio 56Fili & Co. which will be exhibited and sold in our Galerie “Ecke” on the screening night.

Dubl Trubl

Curated by Dscreet, the Dubl Trubl exhibition at Urban Spree gathered 90 street and graffiti artists predominantly from the London scene to work in duos and display artworks made on a collaboration basis.

The outcome is a vivid, free-spirited, and grassroots street art show where most artists have displayed a more graffiti-oriented vision, both on the walls painted outside or in the works shown in the gallery. “Back to the roots of street art” in a way, this spirit being also embodied in the dubl trubl dark humored series of videos.

For instance, on the big Urban Spree Wall (12 meters long on 7 meters high), Paul Insect sprayed 2 stoned cute characters on the bottom sides while Reka painted the 2 characters on top inspired by double dragon arcade gaming style, featuring local heroes Super Kotti vs. Friedrichshain Megapunk. This very joyous, no pressure, and often dark & gritty humored dubl trubl spirit (as if powered remotely by Lush) infused the whole place during a fantastic week that culminated with a wonderful and massive opening.

Out of the 90 dubl-trubl-crew members, about 25 artists have made the trip to Berlin to participate to the whole repainting of the Urban Spree compound.

Montana Cans offered 500 cans for the show and it was decided to limit the color range to only 3 colors: power yellow, white & black, – the colors of the dubl trubl logo – to induce a massive impact on visitors and make it more cohesive.

Inside, the show goes in the gallery space and in the new section with about 50 artworks, both from emerging and confirmed artists.

Another milestone of the show was the epic erection of Christiaan Nagel‘s biggest realization so far, the mega mushroom! A 7-meter high electric blue mushroom, grown out a dead tree.

For the finissage on October 25th, a dubl trubl zine is currently in the making which documents the adventure and spirit of the show.

The whole series of hand-painted prints of Teufelsberg drawn by Chrisse Kunst will be on display for the finissage. More artists are working currently on the ongoing project and the result will be an exceptional rendering of this mythical place west of Berlin, today a prime graffiti spot inside an abandoned NSA spying station (dubl trubl vs. the Soviets), built on a 120 meters artificial hill itself made from the rubble of WWII bombed Berlin houses, erected to cover the location of a Nazi building whose walls were so thick (8m concrete and steel) that it couldn’t be blown up by explosives!

Following the 8th of May great program of Concerts & Party at Urban Spree with THE SACRED TRAVELERS & BKO QUINTET from Mali, INNER RHYTHM is back for another night of mayhem! ECOUTES AU VERT & TROPICAL TIMEWARP team up to bring you two special events featuring late afternoon garden chilling, great live music & hot dance party action with hard bopping djs playing African music and related afro, funky, tropical & disco grooves.

It starts at 6PM with the djs in the garden, some drinks and food under the trees, hopefully with a nice sun dawn over Warschauer on top.

Later at 21:30, ORCHESTRE TOUT PUISSANT MARCEL DUCHAMP will play in the concert room . This 6 piece band blends tropical post punk & afro-beat avant pop into their own musical brew. A captivating one of a kind band led by an extraordinary vocalist, featuring musicians on marimba, double bass, drums… hailing from Belgium, France & Switzerland, they just released a new album on Red Wig/Moi J’Connais. It is no coincidence that the band uses the name of one of the biggest dynamiters of 20th century art. Like him, it is deeply unconventional. Its name and dancing energy also come from legendary African orchestras like Orchestre Tout Puissant Konono n.1, OTP Polyrythmo… taking the audience to unknown and exotic jubilating bazaars.

Following the concert, the heat is not going to drop by any means, with the ANALOG AFRICA SOUNDSYSTEM taking on the decks. Together with his partner Pedo Knopp, Samy Ben Redjeb runs his highly influential blog & record label specialized in 1960’s & 1970’s raw, funky and psychedelic tropical sounds from Africa & Latin America. They will be supported by TROPICAL TIMEWARP’s own djs in the main room + COBEIA & BOOGIEMANN playing Disco, Boogie, Italo… in the disco dungeon!

We very much look forward to seeing your smiling faces and happy feet down at our Shrine!
