We couldn’t be more stoked than this: Don’t miss the unique chance to see one of East Africa’s leading and most legendary dance orchestras to play Berlin for the very first time: To celebrate their 40th birthday, Kenya’s Orchestre Les Mangelepa will embark on the their debut European tour this summer.
With their subtle and laid back rumba styles featuring super sweet three-way harmony vocals, Mangelepa will take you back to an era in which Congolese rumba was the ruling the airwaves and charts of an entire continent.
Originally hailing from Eastern Congo, fate and the will survive led the musicians on a winding odyssey from their home Lubumbashi via Zambia, Malawi and Tanzania to finally arrive in Nairobi, where they would become the rave of town, at times the most loved and now longest running dance band: Les Mangelepa have released more than 13 albums and penned some of East Africa’s most popular songs. Giants of their time, they kept fans busy producing hit after hit – their brilliant arrangements and superbly crafted tunes kept legions all over Africa shaking their hips to thieir unmistakable beat.
Adam Isbell (Racubah / No Nation, UK) will play a special East African DJ set starting at 20:00 in the Biergarten – the concert will start at around 22:00 inside!
