Total Black is a record label presently based in Berlin releasing noise, industrial, power electronics, and experimental music that is frequently organizing events with disparate but complimentary sounds, showcasing artists and associates of the label from across the world. Formed in Montreal, 2012.

EXILES is a Budapest-based electronic label featuring all shades of experimental and forward-thinking techno.

Technologie und das Unheimliche (T+U) is a Berlin-Budapest-Elsewhere based publishing project and cross-disciplinary movement. T+U mediates between cultural technologies within the context of post-digitality and tries to contaminate para-academic thinking with artistic tactics.

The concert & film screening series Easterndaze × Berlin: DIY Music Topographies brings together music collectives from Eastern Europe and pairs each of them with groups from Berlin’s diverse DIY scenes in the name of collective spirit and communal effort. Collectives featured include Intruder Alert (Warsaw), Muscut (Kiev), Exiles & T+U (Budapest), Care of Editions (Berlin), Room 4 Resistance (Berlin), Total Black (Berlin), as well as an A/V Performance by Christoph De Babalon (Berlin) and WIDT (Warsaw). The music events occur November 28-Dec 1 (various locations) and the accompanying film program will be presented at Soundwatch Berlin Music Film Festival Nov 7-16 at Lichtblick-Kino.

Dark Buddha Rising + Fuoco Fatuo

Dark Buddha Rising exhales psychedelic black fumes from a parallel dimension. Drones of malevolent waves number the days until total blackness take over.

“As the dust of centuries has settled on pages unwritten, the gates are opened only within.”

This Finnish coven has been spreading aural deformities for over a decade. A new album will soon see the day of light on Neurot Records before the year 2018 comes to an end. Accompanying them along the journey in support of this malevolent artefact is the italian funeral doom/death quartet FUOCO FATUO, who released their second album on Profound Lore Records in 2017.

FUOCO FATUO was born in 2011, in the middle of the ghastly lakes of Varese, Italy. Starting out as an occult and oppressive death/doom band with an eerie and gloomy atmosphere, their debut LP “The Viper Slithers In The Ashes Of What Remains”, which followed several EPs, was an exploration of the darkest and most desolate spaces through a sickened development of sound, making it like a flood of impenetrable black magma.

Their new album “Backwater” is a massive and suffocating funeral doom opus, the distressing awareness of the nothingness, transcending in the oblivion, and feeding on the black void. The relationship between state of mind and nature, the desolation and vast sense of distance are the main themes. An introspective, mournful journey, deeply rooted into the unknown.

J.C. Satàn is the meeting between the talented Arthur from Bordeaux, France (Polar Strong, The Meatards, Crane Angels..) and Paula from Torino, Italy (drawer, dj and booker of underground shows). They were noticed from their first two LPs Sick Of Love (2010) and Hell Death Samba (2011) on the american label Slovenly Recordings which had major critical and public success. For their audacious and perplexing third album Faraway Land (2012), they join the young and talented parisian label Teenage Menopause Records. In between a US tour in 2013, an european tour with Ty Segall in 2015, a China tour in 2016 and plenty of shows in France and European festivals, they released two more LPs with the trendy french label Born Bad Records, « S/T » (2015) and the brand new Centaur Desire (march 2018). As usual the band refuses to fall into repetition and instead, travels out of the comfort zone. They are exploring the musical landscapes of Pixies and The Queen of the Stone Age but never losing their own style and sound. Known to be some kind of stage warriors, their shows rise above their records. Someone talk about psychedelism, someone about punk-garage, it’s hard to define them.

French one man project Jessica93 is a powerful and emotional force of hypnotic loops, grungy riffs and cold beats, all wrapped up in an impressive sense of delicate and to-the-point song writing.

Even Paris, the city of love, hosts its bleak and dingy suburbs. With the promise of magic so close within one’s reach, the lack of it becomes even more evident. In the midst of this space of hope turned disappointment, Geoff LaPorte goes on an escapist trip and takes on the moniker of Jessica93. Where others see beauty, he sees the rats. But Jessica is the coolest chick in class. She’s desirable and she has ability to transcend the mundane reality of Paris’ dirty streets. Or at least she tries. Jessica stands for all that we wish to be, but can’t. Instead, let’s embrace the dark humour of the universe. After all, it’s not for nothing Jessica93’s 2013 debut is called “Who cares”, with a picture of a bag of crack cocaine on the cover.

As one man playing all instruments, along with a trusty drum machine; Jessica93 builds his music with layers – balancing the raw and minimalist with a trippy warmth. This sense of dream and romance is present in all his songs, sometimes numbed in an opiate high, sometimes as matter-of-fact melancholia. This isn’t some pedal-fest without substance, or, for that matter, a total downer – some of those beats sounds like John Bonham trapped inside an ice box, and the groove is undeniable. Something wants to reach out for sure, and on stage this part-shoegaze-part-grunge-part-cold-wave operation of one does just that: reaches out and goes for the stars. It might all get buried in a heap of dirty clothes once back on earth, but still.

Using very little to achieve a lot – Jessica93 goes straight to the core of every aspect of his music – illuminating a brilliant song writer in the process. Nothing to hide, nothing to lose.

LAST DOMINION LOST AUS/DE

Last Dominion Lost has existed since 1992, formed out of the ashes of Merge (a project created by Dominik Guerin, founding member of SPK, and Jon Evans).
With the inclusion of John Murphy (ex-SPK, Whitehouse) the transition was complete. In April of 1992 the recording sessions for what was to become „The Tyranny of Distance“ began (released on Germany’s Tesco Records).

16 years later, the opportunity arose to reform the slumbering project. With the welcome addition of Ash Wednesday (Crashlands, Einstürzende Neubauten) and Julian Percy (Ratbag) the reactivated band began recordings that would ultimately surface on the 2014 album “Towers Of Silence”.

After the sudden tragic death of core member John Murphy in 2015, veteran industrial musician Till Brüggemann became the third member, bringing a new palette of sounds to the creative process. The group are currently finalising their fifth album.

ANEMONE TUBE DE
Anemone Tube was founded 1996 in South-Germany; since 2010 based in Berlin. The audio works of Anemone Tube are a unique blend of dark ambient, noise, industrial and sound-art with a strong psychogenic impact. The use of constantly shifting and altering sounds and moods is possibly one of the most intriguing things about the audio creations of Anemone Tube. Since 2007 Anemone Tube has been working on “The Suicide Series”. To this field recordings made in China and Japan build a conceptional basis. In a poetic way Anemone Tube combines analytical realism of the phenomenal world with buddhist psychology and nihilist rhetoric influenced by the works of Pier Paolo Pasolini, H.P. Lovecraft, J.G. Ballard and Hayao Miyazaki.

DEAD NORMAL UK/CAT -Berlin debut-

Somewhere in between early industrial, raw punk and murky techno, Dead Normal is a three-headed unit from Barcelona playing, in their own words, “noisy electronics and rants”. Even though it’s not easy to label Dead Normal, some influences can be traced behind their abrasive sound: the pulsating rythm of Sucide, the crude lyricism of Sleaford Mods, the challenging attitude of The Fall…

Dead Normal have won a reputation for their intense live performances. Since their foundation in 2016, they have been gigging relentlessly, sharing the bill with hardcore punk bands, synthpop combos and powerelectronics acts, including artists such as The KVB and Sutcliffe Jügend.

“There Is Nothing Left But The Enjoyment Of Senseless Destruction” is Dead Normal’s first album, soon to be released on Harbinger Sound.

A Kaleidobolt live show is both a sublime and startling affair: it will leave leave you with a grin on your face, gasping for air and possibly partially deaf. Their music is a dizzying maelstrom of progressive song structures, pulverising riffs and loose psychedelic soundscapes, delivered with joy and ferociousness. Kaleidobolt is a power trio that was formed in 2014 in Helsinki, Finland, they have released two albums: Kaleidobolt and The Zenith Cracks (Pink Tank Records 2015, 2016) and toured all over Europe.

ORKAN 

One of the Swedish Gothenburg music scene’s most exciting and brightest shining names at the moment is the prog quintet Orkan. Meaning “Hurricane” in Swedish, it’s both a perfect metaphor for
the band’s sound as well as their recent success. Orkan tell tales of an unjust system, of the ruthlessness of modern society and of the resistance and revenge of Mother Nature, making the amps
scream as well as the on-looking audience. The band touches on difficult themes in with the times, and there is room for both anger, sorrow and joy in their songs. The music of Orkan is dance-friendly and easy to sing along to, but it is also earnest and highly serious. The band’s sound is almost reminiscent of that of classic punk rock, characterized by drummer Moa-Linn Rosenlöf’s and bassist Theresia Dufva’s energizing rhythm section, where an extra punch is thrown into the mix in the form of Kim Bertilsson on the saxophone. Josephine Green’s straight-forward and high-powered riffs blend perfectly together with Fredrik Pettersson’s more melodic Stratocaster solos. The concept of Orkan is undoubtedly inspired by the 1970’s Swedish progressive musical movement, but the band should not at all be described as project based on pure nostalgia. While one foot is resting in the progressive rock heritage, the other is steadily planted in our contemporary times with moving and insightful lyrics that
encourage the listener to reflect and show solidarity with fellow humans.
2017 was an especially exciting year for Orkan. After a successful cross-country tour as the opening act of the prog rock veteran band Nynningen Orkan has played for packed venues wherever they go
and no one is left unaffected by their progress. “Orkan is leading the new prog rock movement”, acknowledges the band Nynningen, and no one seems to object to this claim. In September 2017 Orkan released their self-titled first full-length LP on the Gothenburg based label Alleycat Records. Since before the band have released a 7” single on the same label. The band is currently working on new material and receives new bookings.

Babel Trio + AdirJan

ADIR JAN
Best defined as Cosmopolitan Kurdesque, ADIR JAN is a melting pot of Mid-Easterranean sounds and rhythms, progressively combined with traditional, pop, indie and psychedelic harmonies.
Adir Jan writes and performs songs in Kurmanjî, Turkish, Arabic and many other languages – and especially in the ancient Zaza – that intensifies the sweet and spicy compositions with his bands mates Conny Kreuter, Christos Drouzas, Hasan Al Nour, Can Tüfekcioglu and Hogir Göregen.

His lyrics revolve mostly around gay love and passion, pleasure and pain, but also highlight critical social issues, such as war, homophobia and racism.

Adir Jan’s message is clear: universal love and resistance to repressions!

BABEL TRIO
Babel Trio is consisted by three members, Dimitris (electric lute), Trikalero (Drums), Michael (electric bass). Babel Trio’s members come from different areas of Greece bringing together at least three different influences of Greek traditional Music. Dimitris, with roots from Crete, Trikalero from the North-west part of the mainland and Michael from the Ionian Islands, were involved in music in very early ages, inspired by traditional, classic, jazz and metal/stoner rock music styles. Growing up in non-urban areas they experienced traditional music concerts and fests that included also big circle dances. Their traditional music influences along with their heavy rock ‘blender’, and their personal, electric touch, creates a uniquely blended sound that likened as classic Cretan lyre player Skordalos possessed by Melvins.

​Babel trio is aiming in producing music that screams the cultural, economic and social struggle of Greeks nowadays, through the emotional state of anger. These emotions are expressed though explosive drums and distorted traditional melodies played by the electric lute and the electric bass, and speaks in a progressive folk rock, psychedelic music code, rooted in the island of Crete and the Aegean sea.
