SCARLATTI GOES ELECTRO

Duetto for harpsichord and Synthetizers

SCARLATTI GOES ELECTRO is a duo formed by Antoine Souchav’ and Michel Bananes Jr, mixing baroque music and electronic music. With lots of frenetic rythms and bass lines (and in authentic costumes), in a free adaptation of the score, where the instrumental playing has a real importance, comes a generous and dancing music, always fast and heady.

“I was totally stunned when I heard them ! Their compositions are fantastic! They are remarkably skilled, and I predict that they will succeed incontestably in this fucking profession; they’ve finally found something to brighten up the obsolete and deteriorated state of current electronic music

And they do it with very new sounds, most importantly thanks to an overflowing imagination and also with the audacity and humour of youth, an attitude which greatly distinguishes them from the old guys… ”

JEAN-JACQUES PERREY

MDM SPK (London)

“MDME SPKR make and create for me the most unique and hard real punk music around -why you might ask ?because they pander to no one are lyrically poignant and above all do not have an identikit look that would appeal to the neurosis of a scene or the desire to be in one which what was punk was all about originally -this is a true organic band all on it’s own beautiful axis all 100% DIY- the music speaks for itself hard and visceral,i’ve said enough ..LISTEN !!!” Cherrystones ( Touch Sensitive/ Brutal music ) ///

“Ego-destroying and powerful soul music in the true sense of the word” Demian Castellanos (The Oscillation) ///

“MDME SPKR make a dirty fuzzed up noise that sends me back to a Seattle,New York,Chicago or Washington basement in 1987” Chris Reeder(Rocket Recordings) ///

“Sludgy, apocalyptic doompunk of the highest order” Steven Krakow(Plastic Crimewave ) Drag City ///

“Discharge without guitar solos” Utrillo (Comets On Fire) ///

Andrew Claristidge’s release party : Danser ou Mourir

Andrew Claristidge’s album release party in the infamous crypt of Urban Spree !

12274346_10153717653144293_5614123671931680376_n

Danser ou mourir
Dance or die
Tanz oder sterben
Bailar o morir

Dans eller dø
Танцевать или умереть
Χορός ή πεθαίνουν
الرقص أو يموت
לרקוד או למות

Andrew’s journey started with reading about the story of the dance plague in 1518 where hundreds of people were seized by an irresistible urge to dance in the streets until exhaustion and death. His favourite song “Etre assis ou danser” from the Berlin based band “Liaisons Dangereuses“ had an even stronger creative trigger after reading this…

For his first solo album, Andrew Claristidge – member of the Parisian duo Acid Washed (Record Makers) decided to fly to Ubu Noir’s studio in Lyon where he knew he could find one EMS synthetizer to start to record a few sounds he wanted to include. The experience was highly stimulating so that back at his studio in Berlin, he had assembled almost all the ideas for his album with the basic concept: You can dance to every kind of music.

At the same time Andrew started a new way of producing: less thinking, more acting. He called it Pragmatic Composing.

During this composing period he was also touring and stopped in Nantes to record a track with another friend and music connoisseur: Leendder.
Next chapter: Andrew exchanged files with Theus Mago, his Mexican friend, to create “dancing plague“ . A dance floor monster was born…
Back to Berlin meeting The Claydermans @ Rodion’s insane studio brought to life “now we dance!“.

Think less, do more… he locked himself in the studio for 2 weeks to finish the whole album… but something was still missing. This album is also about friendship so he met Henning Specht, member of the French band Hypnolove and they recorded the song “modulated choir”, an intense dancefloor piece…

„Danser ou Mourir“ will be released on 2 labels: Mille Feuilles (digital) and WYN&M (vinyl). November 20th. The artwork was created by Océane Moussé.

DYS 2015 festival

A Project Organized, Produced and Curated by
CORPO 6 art project space & Unknown Pleasures Factory.

DYS, that stands for Dionysus – the mediterranean deity of nature and ecstasy -, is a festival that through a multimedia approach – live music sets, performances, video installations, screenings – wants to activate a powerful and über expressive “ambiance”, focusing on the dionysiac efflorescent of the art form. Taken in its antinomic dynamic: organic- non organic; analog – digital; low fi – hi fi; performance – installation; informal – formal.

Its second underlying code of functioning, and thematic reference, is the vanguard creativeness represented by the cultural city hubs, along the decades in the past century: Rome in the fifties; New York in the seventies; Berlin in the eighties and so on.

Creating an alive discourse of interacting links between researches, codes and effectiveness along the time line of the global cultural resistance against desertification and cultural homologation.

The artists have been chosen for their work round the “limen” – the extreme edginess – of their research. In term of the research of the internal dynamic within their medium, the questioning of the mainstream cultural logic, the “physicality/liability” of genders involved. Describing a polisemantic and outrageous celebration of existence.

A dionysian hymn to unity and self empowerment.

VV & The Void (Berlin/LA/Melbourne)
VV & the Void is a music project by Valentina Veil, a musician, producer artist and curator living between Berlin, LA and Melbourne.
The choice of the name plays on the repetition of the letter V and the logo stands for a visual vortex/spiral of void, a primal force or destructive energy or a triangle, ambiguous symbol of Holy trinity and occult summoning figure. VV’s lyrics often refer to occult and mysticism and unknown forces and energies.
The colors Gold and Black represent much of VV&V’s work often on stage.
Going back to the ancient Egyptians, Mayans, Aztecs, the color Gold symbolizes spiritual illumination, wisdom, beauty, splendor, awareness, alchemy; the opposite of black, expression of mysterious, veiled, esoteric, destructive, abyssal forces..
Her music, often described as shoegaze, drone, noir, atmospheric, goth, neo-psychedelic, experimental is a celebration of opposites energies: grace and disproportion, feminine and masculine, moon and sun, birth and death, angel and devil, light and dark, conscious and unconscious.

L.A.Drones! (Spain/LA)
L.A.DRONES! is a sonic experiment that, without abandoning strong electronic rhythm, joins styles such as Electro, KrautRock, Dub, Acid, Space, Noise, never forgetting melody, through the interaction of loops and drones, with the manipulation of these playing live, and effects being squeezed to the extreme. Voices, two synthetizers, effects modules, plus pedals and two mixers combine in order to generate a unique experience, with improvisation as an essential part of the performance”.

Dubl Trubl

Curated by Dscreet, the Dubl Trubl exhibition at Urban Spree gathered 90 street and graffiti artists predominantly from the London scene to work in duos and display artworks made on a collaboration basis.

The outcome is a vivid, free-spirited, and grassroots street art show where most artists have displayed a more graffiti-oriented vision, both on the walls painted outside or in the works shown in the gallery. “Back to the roots of street art” in a way, this spirit being also embodied in the dubl trubl dark humored series of videos.

For instance, on the big Urban Spree Wall (12 meters long on 7 meters high), Paul Insect sprayed 2 stoned cute characters on the bottom sides while Reka painted the 2 characters on top inspired by double dragon arcade gaming style, featuring local heroes Super Kotti vs. Friedrichshain Megapunk. This very joyous, no pressure, and often dark & gritty humored dubl trubl spirit (as if powered remotely by Lush) infused the whole place during a fantastic week that culminated with a wonderful and massive opening.

Out of the 90 dubl-trubl-crew members, about 25 artists have made the trip to Berlin to participate to the whole repainting of the Urban Spree compound.

Montana Cans offered 500 cans for the show and it was decided to limit the color range to only 3 colors: power yellow, white & black, – the colors of the dubl trubl logo – to induce a massive impact on visitors and make it more cohesive.

Another milestone of the show was the epic erection of Christiaan Nagel‘s biggest realization so far, the mega mushroom! A 7-meter high electric blue mushroom, grown out a dead tree.

For the finissage on October 25th, a dubl trubl zine is currently in the making which documents the adventure and spirit of the show.

The whole series of hand-painted prints of Teufelsberg drawn by Chrisse Kunst will be on display for the finissage. More artists are working currently on the ongoing project and the result will be an exceptional rendering of this mythical place west of Berlin, today a prime graffiti spot inside an abandoned NSA spying station (dubl trubl vs. the Soviets), built on a 120 meters artificial hill itself made from the rubble of WWII bombed Berlin houses, erected to cover the location of a Nazi building whose walls were so thick (8m concrete and steel) that it couldn’t be blown up by explosives!
