ARTISTS

Liliana Velasquez M. has crossed borders all her life. Raised in Miami Medellin and New Jersey there is no role she cannot play and her comedy reflects this extravagant mix in her Latina-tude, Catholic guilt and American dreaming. As an adult, Liliana recklessly explored NYC, slipping in and out of different art forms, costumes, and jobs. She has so many outrageous stories to tell, it would horrify her proud parents, Only now do they admire her comedic outlook on so many mistakes. Always hungry for new challenges, Liliana soon found other platforms for the performance that is her life: Berlin Neukölln. She is proud to be queer and not perfect and enjoys waking up in the afternoons.
As if that isn’t enough, she is also leading lady at Freudian Slip Club, producing hundreds of shows in Germany every year.

Duckie L’Orange is a Berlin based performance artist with a twist.
She does weird and wacky interactive performances for kids, and equally wacky but significantly dirtier shows for adults. She’s been all around town like a hipster on a vintage bicycle – from performing at the Sydney Opera House, barking in a steam punk carnival with Antigua i Barbuda at Sydney Festival, touring Germany with the Puppetry Slam Berlin to creating shows in the jungles of Kalimantan and Timor Leste.

Crystal Tassels, “The American Brat Queen,” is a burlesque artist, chanteuse, and fetish performer from Seattle, USA. After making her burlesque debut in South Korea, Tassels spent six years performing in the USA and Canada and is now based in Berlin. When she’s not singing or stripping, you’ll usually find her impersonating her cat.

Carmen Chraim is a beloved comedian in the Berlin English comedy scene. After five years of performing stand-up comedy, she is now recognized on the train by strangers at least 20 times a year! She performs mainly in Berlin but also manages to leave her bubble and delight many boring German cities (both West and East). She’s also had her name pulled from a bucket for at least four NY open mics; flyered and performed tirelessly for an entire month at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival; and found performing on stages in Amsterdam and Warsaw to be very enjoyable.
And now you’re asking yourself, “Great, but where is she from?” Born and raised in Lebanon, she wins over crowds with her high energy presence & rapid-fire anecdotes. Thanks to her Middle Eastern background, passion for hummus, deep experience with corporate Germans and sarcastic political views, she’s often seen as an alternative Arab success story that hasn’t yet been discovered by the media.

Purdy Hölsom is a singer-schlongbiter, rapper wrong-righter. She is a comedy musician from North Carolina (US). She’s a four-time finalist in the International Songwriting Competition. In 2018, her “Gay Money” music video was screened at the Palm Springs Film Fest & the Berlin Music Video Awards. She recently performed at Edinburgh Fringe Fest, and learned that Scotland is very, very cold.Holsom has released two albums, Purdy Holsom (2014) and Vageezus: Voice of a Generation (2016), several singles, and nine music videos (depending on what you count).

Gorjeoux is a Corset wearing, KitKat loving, Ukulele playing, Gorgeous, Queer, Non Binary Femme Goddess who likes to play around with new imaginings, queerifications and mashups of pop songs.

Wynton Kelly Stevensonn is a musical storyteller with a twist. His musical journey is crafted with vocals, harmonica, beats and live looping. Sponsored by Hohner Music he has been touring and living in Europe for 10 years.

Lady Daisey is a soul/funk singer who spent her childhood touring the U.S. with her parent’s band. Raised on the road, home-schooled and surrounded by music, it was natural for her to blossom into the artist that she is. Since then, she’s been following her musical path and developed her own playful style, ranging from sultry love songs to powerhouse feel-good old-school soul. Lady Daisey has played venues and festivals around the globe, spreading her message of love and positivity, soulfully presented over head noddin’ Batsauce beats. A small woman with a huge voice, Lady Daisey is sure to grab the attention and steal the hearts of everyone within ear’s reach.

She’s opened for Sharon Jones, Mayer Hawthorne, Chali 2na, Roxanne Shante, Bahamadia, the Perceptionists. She’s rocked festivals around the world alongside the Roots, Method Man, Atmosphere, Brother Ali, Muse, Typical Cats, Souls of Mischief, Zion I. Lady Daisey’s voice can also be heard on recordings with Qwazaar, Typical Cats, Asamov and Marc Hype.

Batsauce is a musician/producer/DJ from Jacksonville, Florida. Following his well received EP & LP with Qwazaar, Batsauce debuts his instrumental intergalactic love saga entitled “Starcrossed.” Batsauce is also one-third of the Smile Rays (along with Paten Locke & Lady Daisey). He has worked with Mr. Lif , Akrobatik, The AB’s, Paten Locke, Lady Daisey, Surreal, Dillon, Chop, Boog Brown, and MassInfluence. Not to mention, the likes of Bahamadia, George Clinton, Vinnie Paz, and Dumbtron have appeared on his tracks. As well as an avid beatmaker, Batsauce is a multi-instrumentalist and DJ. He resides mostly in Berlin, when he isn’t couch-surfing elsewhere.

VOWWS • Berlin (FREE SHOW)

VOWWS
+++FREE SHOW+++
08.06.2019 – Berlin Urban Spree
Einlass: 20:00 Uhr, Beginn: 21:00 Uhr

We’ll have Irish streetfood vendors serving delicious Irish drinks and food, live music, Irish dancing, and so much more. Make sure you join our Facebook event to stay up to date with announcements!

Unfortunately we didn’t receive permission for the parade this year, but not to worry! We’ll open the gates at Urban Spree from 13:00 so rugby fans will be able to watch the first of 3 live games in the 6 Nations Championship. The highlight will be England vs Ireland (k.o. 15:45) shown on big screens.

We have invited Setanta Berlin GAA to build an indoor GAA section showcasing the very best of Gaelic football and hurling. We will have kids activities, such as Irish Storytelling, arts and crafts, face-painting and the very special opportunity to dance with our lovely Irish dancers.

We are also very pleased that members of Berlin-Ireland Pro Choice Solidarity will be joining us to raise awareness about the upcoming abortion referendum in Ireland and to promote the #hometovotecampaign.

We have a packed schedule of diverse, Berlin-based Irish musicians for the FREE concert in the garden. 4 Minute Mile are sure to set the tone early when they kick things off at 14:00. We will then have the opening ceremony at 15:00 featuring the incredible dancers from Irish Beats Dance Company Berlin. St. Patrick himself is also due to make an appearance 🙂

2-piece Irish folk group Slí na Sláinte will have a more calming influence on proceedings when they take to the stage at 16:00. After the Irish rugby match (17:30), headline act Joey Ryan and his band will take to the stage performing a mix of his own material as well as Irish rock classics. Kilkelly will then perform some folk and blues numbers before Seán Óg and David Flowerkraut treat us to some classic Irish ballads.

The Afterparty featuring a traditional Céilí Mór Irish dance followed by renowned Irish DJs follows on from the concert and will keep revellers moving until the wee hours 🙂

// Tomoki Tamura (Holic Trax / Doublet) From Osaka //

The rare breed that is Tomoki Tamura started his journey with dance music in Japan and has come a long way since. A move to London in 2004 inaugurated a series of Holic nights that would eventually lead him to rock the floors of top London venues including Fabric, Ministry of Sound, and Plastic People. Meanwhile, he had gained enough experience and respect to earn himself a residency at the legendary club The END / AKA from 2007 until its closure in 2009.

Quickly growing to become a staple night in London’s nightlife, HOLIC continued to flourish as it brought a fresh selection of quality house and techno djs to the capital. While the party bubbled in London, it also earned permanent residency at one of Japan’s most respected clubs, Womb in Tokyo. He began to play an important roll being the main underground music ambassador connecting Tokyo to London. With immediate affect, Tomoki received the much deserved respect and started to play in all corners of the world.

Almost a decade after HOLIC’s establishment, the launch of the label HOLIC TRAX came naturally in 2012 with a release from none other than Mr. G. The label’s unique raw take on house music has earned enormous praise from underground music lovers. With releases from Tuccillo, Rick Wade, Chris Carrier, Ekkohaus & Rufus, Kate Simko, and Robert Dietz, the label has proven to follow its own taste without compromise. Tomoki is one half of Doublet, a project in collaboration with Italian Ibiza resident Tuccillo. HOLIC TRAX has been the main outlet for their unique take on raw and moody house tracks.

Although proving to be a credible producer, label owner, and promoter, he knows his records the most and is a DJ above all. He now resides in Berlin where he calls home.

Best moments of the 3rd Berlin Seafood Festival

Full video of the 3rd Berlin Seafood Festival at Urban Spree! Thanks a lot to our lovely guests, passionate vendors, and to Gabriel at Devir Produções who filmed and edited the video.

From West African spicy grilled fish from DeDeeDe (our permanent food vendor for the 2017 season you can find everyday in our Biergarten), to the mediterranean shores with Pic Nic 34‘s octopus sandwich, Pontecarlo‘s pasta ai frutti fi mare and risotti, without forgetting Valencia’ La Cuina and their delicious Fideua, the festival ventured this year into the Far East with the succulent Japanese okonomiyaki from Samurai Spoon and the herbal tastes of thaï green papaya salad with grilled mackerel from Khwan, Spud Bencer‘s mussels “à la marinière” were a treat as well as Nico’s Cancale Oysters, in direct provenance from Brittany which were an instant sell-out. We tried some wine-beer/seafood pairings with Maxim Bar à Vins and his hand-picked selection of nature wines. Excellent combination with seafood okonomiyaki and oysters was Brooklyn Brewery‘s “Sorachi Ace“, an unfiltered Japanese farmhouse saison that has been lost and lately revived in the state of Washington. BRLO‘s 7% German IPA was a hit with grilled shrimps owing to its slight notes of caramel.

See you next spring for more seafood spree! In the meantime, you can join the Berlin Seafood Festival Facebook page to post your best pictures, and send us your comments and suggestions for next year’s edition.
