Siglo XX live in Berlin (Farewell Show)

[aufnahme + wiedergabe] presents:

Siglo XX (BE) live
– for the first time in Berlin since over 30 years and for the last time ever –

DJS:

a.e.schatten (coinciDANSES / Bremen)
Jürgen Jakob (Cold Beat Berlin)
robertianjim (The Red Room / Hamburg)

“40 years ago punk was taking Belgium by storm. Just about anyone could grab an instrument and start pounding away on it. And that’s exactly what we did in our neighbourhood in Genk with Siglo XX, which is the name of a mine in Bolivia by the way, but we chose it mainly because we thought the Xs were so cool. We kept on doing this for 13 years: making music, over and over again, different every time, but always true to ourselves, stubborn, defying trends and great expectations. We recorded albums that sold internationally and we toured Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Hungary. For some reason we struck a chord with a broader audience and they kept on following us through the years – and still do – and they’ve been joined by a younger crowd that is catching on to us through the Internet. Because 40 is quite a respectable age, Onderstroom Records is re-releasing the first three Siglo XX 12-inches, remastered but with the original artwork. These records, which have become collector’s items over the years, will be available separately and in a boxed edition.”

New Screen Print Release with Stohead

Urban Spree Prints and Stohead release this Friday “Brewing Out“, a 9-colour hand-pulled screen print based on a mural painted in 2014 by the Berlin-based artist in Linz, Austria. The mural is documented in the book “The Art of Writing Your Name“.

The print is a subtle rendition of a classic Stohead handstyle, morphing into a distillation/dissolution on the bottom of the print, announcing Stohead’s current artistic direction (liquid fumes).

The 60 x 60 cm print comes in a limited Regular Edition of 50 prints, signed and numbered by the artist. In addition, Stohead will produce a Special hand-sprayed Edition, in a limited run of 10 prints.

The prints will be available this coming Friday, May 3rd, 2019, at 17:00 on the Urban Spree website and in our Berlin Shop at the same time.

The print is based on a subsequent canvas painted by the artist after he completed the wall. Mother Drucker’s master printer, Dolly Demoratti, has chosen a complex, 9-colour version, to recreate the subtleness of the motive.

Basement Bash Vol.XVII – Headliner: LeVent

Basement Bash returns for its 17th edition – and this time including some surprises. Stay tuned!

————–

LeVent
Like a drunken driver, LeVent swerves up over the curb, drives straight through the garage and total their ride somewhere out in a goat farm. Bleating at it’s most danceable, they carry listeners far away to get lost in nice nonsense, stuck in heavy forgetting, and transfixed on what was, leaving you thirsty for more. LeVent started playing live in late 2015, shared the stage with a bunch of talents including Kadavar, The Underground Youth, Die Nerven and Preoccupations, to name a few, and evolved into one of the most interesting acts on Berlin’s underground scene. In June 2017, they released their debut album on a recordings ltd., the label of Anton Newcombe from The Brian Jonestown Massacre (who also co-produced the album with Andrea Wright from Parr Street Studios Liverpool), and supported The Brian Jonestown Massacre in Germany, Austria & Switzerland in 2018.

“No compromise are exactly what Berlin punk band The Indian Queen are about, except that they didn’t bother with the bass guitar. Everything has been scraped bare and left to fend for itself.”- Indieberlin

Blind Delon, H ø R D, Leere live + after party Herzschlag

BLIND DELON

Founded in 2016 by Mathis Kolkoz and after releasing several works on Oráculo Records / Bordello A Parigi and some DJ sets around Europe, Blind Delon raised to a multi-art project (3 musicians and a visual composition by the french artist AFB).

With their heads and bags filled with synthesizers from a time they weren’t even born, the band can be found today between a record shop and a cave rave, looking for an aesthetic that is nowhere near dying. Post-Synthwave might be the best words to qualify the project, as the music is a sort of breed between outrageous Pop and cold basslines.

Building a bridge between Pop and Rave music, Blind Delon is making a NOT conventional yet romantic Post-Punk sound.

H ø R D

H ø r d creates electronic music inspired by coldwave, soundtracks, fantasy movies, oscillating between epic compositions, EBM and techno pulse, and also more contemplative tracks.

After performances on his own musical territory, he gradually came to the European synth wave scene, signing a remix for Winter Severity Index (Rome) and performing live in Germany (Wave Gotik Treffen), Belgium, Czech Republic, Swiss, Malta, Italia, Austria, Spain.

His first album “Focus on light” was released 2016 on Anton Maiiovi’s label Giallo Disco Records, and sold out 6 weeks later.
In 2017, his third EP «Futures» is out on Sacred Court, label of electronic artist SNTS.

His upcoming second LP will be out in Avant! Records in September, 2018.

«The label Giallo Disco Records have described the music as “Reverb-Soaked Urban-Gothic Melancholic songs, between synth-shoegaze and violent EBM,” and believe the album will “will resonate strongly with fans of Pornography-era The Cure, Joy Division and classic Nine Inch Nails.” To our ears we hear strains of early Tropic of Cancer and dare we say Pet Shop Boys, and overall, as you’ll be able to tell from the album preview below, it’s a well informed reincarnation of what makes the synth, minimal and no wave genres so appealing today.» JUNO DOWNLOAD (2016)

LEERE

We come from nowhere and move towards emptiness.
Leere is an introvert musical project, trying to express and fill the emptiness inside us. The use of analog and digital sounds of the 80s and the integration of sounds from Berlin, the city that influences her and her music strongly, helps her with that hard task.

Tché Ruggi: Deep

Urban Spree and A7MA (Sao Paulo) present an exhibition in Urban Spree Galerie’s Ecke of new works by Sao Paulo based artist Marcelo Ruggi a.k.a. Tché.

Tché created some of the works of his series “Deep” as an Urban Spree Resident Artist in March 2018.

Tché Ruggi and “Submercidade”, his latest series, is the result of a profound dive into “Sea of Perceptions”, his first body of works, when he had the chance to meditate and seek deeper meanings. In the midst of darkness, his forms reflected silvered lights and unveil this submerged city.

Time made the triangular geometries defragment and unraveled what was behind their pyramidal assemblies, finding a new universe of possibilities to explore. “Deep” portrays the current moment of the artist who in his deep immersion, looks at the light and returns towards the surface. Exploring his sensations, senses and memories, he deciphered the “Enigma” and reached the maturity expressed in dynamism and gesture, in his representative aquatic structures.

Text: Enivo
Translation from Portuguese: Marina Zumi

About the artist:

In 2004, Tché visited an old house in ruins. The mud and the aggressive action of nature over the construction’s remains seemed like saying , “do not paint in here”.

The space, where in and outside were in harmony as a chess game. The sky was part of the roof and the ground was the soil. The artist waited for an omen.

The sunset arrived touching the destroyed windows, cutting it self through the broken pieces of glass and projecting its own paint of light and shadow over the surfaces as an invisible event, drawing on the walls calling the night.

From this day, the geometry of the shapes projected by the light, small triangles, pointed shapes, hard waves, dry cuts, they all became raw material for the artistic process.

Tche adopted the fragments of this mysterious answer to spread it little by little on his repertory casted in iron, overlaying the layers, pressured on paint, magnetizing fields. It was built the enigma of an impossible pyramid.

Tche Ruggi, graduated at Faculdade Belas Artes de São Paulo, on 2009.

On 2008, he was one of the founders of Atelier 132, that originated the “Coletivo 132”, a collective of graffiti artists. Tche has done exhibitions in Austria, Germany and Brazil. On 2012, he founded with his partners the A7MA Space of Art and Culture, which is growing until today and hopefully for a long time.

Opening: Thursday, May 29th
