Bisco Smith: “Journey” until 21.04

Bisco Smith’s solo show “Journey” will be on display until 21.04.2018 at Urban Spree Galerie.
The NYC-based visual artist has spent a 3-week residency at Urban Spree prior to the opening of his show. During his stay in Berlin, he created a whole new series of works on canvas, inks on paper and some installations.

“Journey” brings the visitor to the universe of Bisco’s largely freestyle and calligraffiti-inspired black-and-white visual beats.

Bisco’s roots lie in hip hop, graffiti, and street art. He works in a variety of formats, including canvas and large outdoor murals, and his style can be characterized as a blend of graffiti deconstruction, gestural abstraction, and lyric-based stylewriting. Made predominantly with a black and white color palette, his art visually captures the rhythms of music and the energy of the moment through its spontaneous marks and abstracted text.

We will be releasing an exclusive hand-pulled 18″ x 24″ screen print made at Urban Spree on Wednesday, March 14th at 12:00 (noon) NYC time and 17:00 German time.

The catalogue of works exhibited can be downloaded here.

Please contact the gallery for any further information on the works.

Cold Noise Phonia ➪ A Four Band’s Circuit Action

11999691_10203548718398468_2533208921497722629_o

Four noisebands from berlin – friendly with each other and well known at the basement-club/antifa-
scene – come together at urban spree at oct 2th to celebrate a concert in a special manner.
Simultaneously there will be founded a label called “cold noise phonia” where in near future all 4
four bands will release a 10” in diy style soon. Kettenkasten, Amigo Tropical, Balg and Antihairball
are united because of their love to a strange, atonal, dodgy, deconstructed, screaming noiserock,
mathmetal, freestyle something else…because of long training, experimentations and a lot of live
performances all bands have found their own very special style, all are merciless and
uncompromising in their diction and all enjoy insider’s tip status..
Experimental like the music will also be the live setting. The audience will be encircled by the four
bands who stay simultaneous on four different stages around and play in a kind of ping pong
principle. After one song from Amigo follows a track from Balg or Antihairball plays after
Kettenkasten or another configuration happens. The audience will be part of the circuit action and
nobody knows at the beginning exactly what will happen. So enjoy the suspense! As warm-up
Teresa Riemann makes the opener with her poetic drumming.

Mutant #3

10700096_10152725909214844_6262834749300576430_o

From Luanda to New Jersey, from Johannesburg to London, from Kingston to Berlin: indigenous drums and high tech sound fuse in the club. Ancestral beats and diasporic voices thrive on inner city streets. Meta-rhythms and mega-bass erasing borders, connecting dots, and making your booty work overtime — FUCK THE FUTURE, THIS SHIT IS NOW.
