Berlin based label Foul-Up presents the launch party for its sophomore release, Metalized Man’s debut album “Losing Your Virginity: Metalized Boy’s First Adventures in Manhood”.

EGYPTRIXX (Live)
Canada

Foul-Up has invited Toronto’s Egyptrixx as a special guest gracing the night with a live set just a few weeks after the release of his fourth album “Pure, Beyond Reproach”.
Since the release of his debut album on Night Slugs in 2011, Egyptrixx’s “celestial club music” has gradually moved further towards abstract territories while never departing the pulse of the club. Over the course of three albums, several EPs and multiple other projects, Egyptrixx has perfected his very own unique strain of high-gloss-industrial techno-centric sharp-edged club deconstructions.
His fourth album comes after a busy 2016, having launched the experimental solo endeavour Ceramic TL, new duo Limit (together with L-Vis 1990, co-founder of Night Slugs) and his NTS show Halocline Trance (sharing name with the record label he formed in 2015).

ZIÚR
Germany

Also guesting the night is Ziúr, an artist that is – as her biography reads – “dedicated to combining different sonic textures and brainy beats into a functional dancefloor framework”.

Ziúr is a co-founder of BOO HOO, an open-ended Berlin night committed to fighting discrimination. As a DJ her undertaking is equally diverse, with an anarchistic approach she dismantles genre-barriers, something which is perfectly paralleled in her own productions where aggressive brutality is rendered with a strange poise.
Since putting out her self-released debut mixtape mid-2015, Ziúr’s schedule has taken off in regards to both touring and studio work. 2016 saw the release of two EPs (on Infinite Machine and Objects Ltd.) and in 2017, Ziúr will release her debut album as a joint effort between Objects Ltd. and Planet Mu.

METALIZED MAN (Live – Berlin debut)
Denmark

The night in question will be presenting the Berlin live debut by Metalized Man who on the preceding day will be releasing his debut full length on Foul-Up. The album – titled “Losing Your Virginity: Metalized Boy’s First Adventures in Manhood” – finds the artist showcasing his own unique sound – alien yet familiar, fusing elements from industrial, ambient, techno and trance.
The record follows two previous cassette EPs on Danish imprint Infinite Waves, and was predominantly conceived in live sessions at the artist’s rehearsal space at Copenhagen’s Mayhem.
The album’s press release describes the artist’s sound as “rich of a spectrum that extends from the murkiest shades to the brightest hues with a zest of trancey tropes. ‘Losing Your Virginity: Metalized Boy’s First Adventures in Manhood’ reacts and evolves like a steady biotope submitted to diverse levels of pressure, constantly shifting scales and tempo – from a deep green palette of organic drops and crackles to the sleek vibrancy of multi-faceted synthetic layers – punctured by paranoid ostinatos. ‘Losing Your Virginity…’ shines for setting up its own deeply evocative cinematic playgrounds. Images rise to the surface in a deftly-manoeuvered chaos of sound.”

BEASTIE RESPOND
Denmark

The urge to fuse elements from different musical periods and styles is the key drive behind the Beastie Respond moniker.
Between 2011 and 2013 Danish label Teal Recordings released Beastie Respond’s first three EPs followed by the debut album “Fictitious Nostalgia”. Over the course of his Teal releases, the artist moved from making distinct drum’n’bass tunes to having his own genre-defying sound.
While over the following years having contributed tracks to Dylan & Loxy’s Cylon Recordings and dBridge’s Exit Records, the proper follow-up to Beastie Respond’s debut full-length came in 2016 with the EP “Back to the Future” on Copenhagen’s Circle Vision imprint.
Now, once again, Beastie Respond has given his own sound a complete makeover ahead of a big new project to come out in 2017.
Expect an ADHD-fuelled melting pot of sounds and unreleased productions in Beastie Respond’s ever-eclectic DJ sets!

MISANTROP
Germany/Denmark

Danish-born and Berlin-based Misantrop is the founder of Foul-Up, having released his (and the label’s) debut EP “Limerence” in late 2016.
While a first impression of the EP typically would be one of approaching disparate yet classic club-trajectories, a more detailed listen reveals that the EPs coherence is found in more subtle places – in the more introverted and experimental influences.
A set by Misantrop aims to keep the listeners alert by drawing sounds from a broad sonic territory and embracing stylistic chaos, as well as the occasional foul-up.

JAMES NUNN (Video)

After having debuted his maiden video installation at a series of Foul-Up events celebrating the label’s first release, James Nunn now presents the project’s second revision.

Glitter Wizard: Lipstick Stains on the Rim of a Bong.

Gliter Wizard plays a unique brand of freak rock and roll that Julian Cope once described as“unashamedly glamorous hard rock” and he’s not wrong. For the past decade, these San Francisco heshers have been wowing rock fans with heavy rifs and a high octane stage show that combines psych, metal, punk, glam, and prog into a sound that is both hard to pin down and easily recognizable as their own.

Once, there was darkness on the face of the earth. And the people were in chains, mind forg’d chains, chains of the patriarchy. And they did follow the rule. And the sky was darkened and the Mother Earth was silently weeping. And her frustration grew, as she watched her daughters in their suppression. Until she could take it no more.

And with her green electrity of wildness threw a line to a piano and a drumkit, a guitar and from out of the darkness, came a crack , a holy crack, through which the light began to flood.

A light of wonder and mystery, wild inspiration from the soul of the female and the soul of the earth. And she brought her inspiration to all of those that sought her holy truths. And through disguise and ritual and rhythm and chaos, they found their way to her temple. And screamed her praise to the gathered masses:
BEHOLD! I give you THE WAY
BEHOLD! I give you…. The Feminists!!!

VOWWS • Berlin (FREE SHOW)

VOWWS
+++FREE SHOW+++
08.06.2019 – Berlin Urban Spree
Einlass: 20:00 Uhr, Beginn: 21:00 Uhr

BOBBY WOULD (Low Company, UK) & Regret

BOBBY WOULD + Family (de, cz, isr, at)

“”IT’S HAPPENING TO YOU, AGAIN…” Lovelorn, tranq’d-out, majestically understated rok y roll lullabies and dub-pocked, acid-damaged, pain’-it-dark drone-punk from Robert P. of Heavy Metal and Muscle Barbie++, coming over like some celestial 4AM face-off between George Harrassment, The Great Unwashed and Can. Gulp. Yeah this is a record so patently, self-evidently brilliant that we have to stop ourselves from calling it an instant classic (oops). There are some affinities with the homesick jangle of Itchy Bugger’s Done One, an album which R. played on (and painted the cover for), and the songs sure are pretty (find me a more romantic refrain in 2019 than ‘Luna”s “You and me / shivering in the street”), but Baby feels like more of a TRIP, as if some 23rd century Martian moptop-pop combo crash-landed at a dosed up Kensington houseparty circa ’66, plugged in their gear and got stuck right in: hypnotic space-guitar ultra-reverberant and in a permanent state of comedown/dissolve, choppy death-surf riffs and gently weeping leads ringing into infinity, squeezed and smeared for every last trace of scorch and sting…wooiii!

There are some echoes too of banner UK DIY/squat-wave and the mildewed NZ psych of the Spies and the Renderers, but all shot through with a kinda Teutonic sensibility/rigour, loopy and ultra-repetitive – equal debts to the full-throttle drainpiped psycho-beat of 39 Clocks’ ‘Dom’ and the glacial ambient-glam sampledelia of Love Inc.’s ‘Life’s A Gas’ (!). Rare to encounter a record as simultaneously heart-rending, sonically intrepid and effortlessly SWINGING as this. Couldn’t be more in love.”

Christopher Stead: Acid Reign

Urban Spree Galerie presents “Acid Reign“, the first solo show in Germany of the British visual artist Christopher Stead.

Acid Reign is the culmination of a long-term residency at Lab Kalkhost in North Germany. Christopher Stead produced on the shores of the Baltic Sea several large format works, using a process mixing graffiti techniques and natural elements.

Cans of paint are burst with nails, sand and mud is flung. An alchemy between the paint and the land turns into a painterly concrete, cementing ideas, solidifying a tangible truth. The paintings are stuffed into rucksacks and returned to the studio where Ikea bags full of previous endeavours lie dormant ready to rework. A fecund process is born.

The fences used in the supports of the pieces are taken from decaying plots on the train lines.

Rusty fences, transgressed and twisted by nature are transported to the studio. The erosion of the metal emasculates the sterile man-made purity of the material. This gives each painting a story and a history. Every fence painting starts at night on the train tracks with a pair of bolt cutters and finds its way into the light of the studio and finally into the gaze of the public domain.

Artist Statement:

“Once upon a time, on a small island called Great Britain, there lived a lady called Margaret Thatcher. Margaret along with her Tory Party ruled the land with an iron fist and squeezed the living life out of its people. Fed up of a decade of draconian rule, the people began to gather and dance their woes away at their own party. They called this the Acid House party.

Race and class barriers were dissolved as the people united and raved as one big family. The Tory party didn’t like this as they weren’t invited, so they invented a law to stop the gathering of 20 or more people, dancing to the sounds of repetitive beats. Techno, Jungle, call it what you want. It had to stop. Whilst this may sound like a children’s horror story, it was in fact or certainly a young adults nightmare. 30 years on, the nightmare continues. Britain is again been torn apart by the right.

The paintings in Acid Reign were made on the beaches of former East Germany. 30 years ago these beaches were patrolled by the military to stop East Germans defecting to the west. Cans of paint were popped and squeezed upon the sand soaked canvas to create the acid rain.

The works seeks new places to hang. Inspired by Foucault’s concept of heterotopia, it finds solace in spaces of otherness. Informed by a youth growing up free, painting graffiti on the trains. Painting in the dark. Surrounded by fences, along the train tracks, in and on derelict buildings. Buildings which housed these parties. Places of abandon and neglect. Again, the work finds itself back in its familiar territory.

Acid Reign is emblematic of the freedom of movement in open spaces without borders. A freedom which is slowly being choked out of the people once again.”  Christopher Stead

———————————————————————-

Christopher Stead (b. 1974, UK) lives and works in London.

Tangled, torn, popped, squeezed and then hung in spaces of other, the work exists to evade the paradigms of commercial obedience, white cube boredom, and the polarities regimented by cultural hegemony.

Informed by Thatchers dystopian Britain and her Acid House love child, the work explores free movement in spaces without borders.

In 2016 Stead graduated with a First Class BA Hons in Fine Art at the City and Guilds of London Art School, London, where he received the Painter – Stainers Scholarship Prize and Brian Till Art History Thesis Award.

GOLD „Why Aren’t You Laughing?“ Tour

GOLD ( + special guest: Nordra )
25.04.2019 Berlin – Urban Spree
Einlass: 20:00 Uhr, Beginn: 21:00 Uhr
Tickets: https://bit.ly/2V2rWEn
