SOVIET SOVIET

Tickets: https://www.greyzone-tickets.de/produkte/442

SOVIET SOVIET is an Italian post-punk band that was formed in 2008. Just one year later they went on tour with a handful of self-published singles to share their visions with the world.

Connoisseurs know, however, that it would be fatal to describe them as a simple post-punk band. Through different musical influences, e.g. from Gothic Rock, Coldwave & Art-Punk they create their own fresh and refined sound.

————————————————————————-
Emerging from the DIY underground of Barcelona, Belgrado initially traded in a stylish mixture of post-punk tropes that could be traced back to the Europe of the early 1980s. Formed in 2010, Barcelona-based outfit Belgrado has existed at the innovative forefront of the global post-punk scene. Now in their ninth year, the quartet continues to play at home and abroad, carrying with them a reputation built on three full length albums and an impressive touring career that has taken them to all corners of the globe.

The tale is perhaps a well-precedented one: a Welshman, an American, and a Swede move to Berlin and start a post-punk band called PLATTENBAU in a studio housed in the massive former DDR Funkhaus. Hans Tobias, Lewis Lloyd und Brandon Walsh describe their very own sonic can of worms as post-ideological surrealism, the ten songs on their self-titled debut album oscillate between noise, pop and surf.

Tamaryn + Some Ember live in Berlin

[aufnahme + wiedergabe] presents:

Tamaryn (US) live

Some Ember (US) live
Third Coming Records

Tamaryn has been crafting gothic dreampop and soaring shoegaze records for the better part of a decade. With each subsequent release she has both expanded her sonic palette and playfully deconstructed it, the project itself an iconoclastic exploration involving a variety of collaborators and genre-melding that has spanned three previous albums, an EP and a handful of singles. While 2015’s lush Cranekiss marked a synth-inflected left turn for the artist, Dreaming the Dark pushes her sound even further. It’s simultaneously her hardest, darkest record and still somehow her most accessible, landing squarely in the sweet spot between between pop and post-punk.

“Submerging The Sun”, the second LP by Some Ember, is a journal of climatological grief, intimate vulnerability, and transcendental sadness. Self-produced by songwriter Dylan Travis, the record’s sparse arrangements are weighted by bleak ambience and dramatic vocal turns. Icy synthesizers pierce veils of fog-like drones, delivering sorrow and catharsis. Tides of dissonance ebb to reveal glittering mirages of hope, which are just as soon swept away.

MOLCHAT DOMA
thursday 24th october

MOLCHAT DOMA
Detriti Records
Minsk, Belarus

Molchat Doma (translated as “Silent Houses”), founded in 2017 in Minsk, Belarus, stands at the intersection of post-punk, new-wave and synth-pop. Dark yet danceable, and with a heavy dose of goth ethos, their music is reminiscent of the masters that predate them, but make no mistake: Molchat Doma creates a sound and meaning that is immediately recognizable as all their own.

The band is comprised of Egor Shkutko, who sings the Russian lyrics in his deep monotone, Roman Komogortsev on guitar, synths, and drum machine, and Pavel Kozlov on bass and synths.

Their second LP, Этажи (pronounced Etazhi, meaning “Floors”) was released in 2018 on Berlin-based Detriti Records. It has sold out four times and is currently on its fifth repressing due to outstanding demand. Этажи has garnered over one million views on Youtube.

Dark Beats ~ Cold Waves

LIVE
TWINS (That Which Is Not Said), Atlanta -> listen
Leroy Se Meurt, Paris -> listen
Zagrebleu, Leipzig -> listen
DJ:s Enfant Terrible, Neugeborene Nachtmusik and åtåmåtån

TWINS/That Which Is Not Said is Matt Weiner who is also known for his Featureless Ghost project and of course as the head of the DKA Records label. His project TWINS is not limited to one specific style but the dominant characteristic is the synth driven sound. Other influences are various styles of dance music and a healthy dose of arty post-punk.

Leroy Se Meurt from France is a duo with a background in electronics and in punk music and this is very evident in their sound. Old school EBM is fused with fierce elektro. A true punk attitude and energy is always there, sort of in the tradition of Ich Bin. They stay away from the contemporary EBM sound with techno influences. Leroy Se Meurt choose their own stylistic path but with the same impact for the dance floor, or maybe even more impact.

Zagrebleu is a synthpunk duo from Leipzig throwing Wave, EBM, Acid, New Beat in a blender and spice it up with a pinch of Industrial and Hi-NRG.
