Formed in St. Petersburg in 2014, the band quickly gained a devoted following, earning praise for their catchy tunes and evocative performances. The story of the Lazy Giants reads like a post-punk trashy novel: At the end of the '70s they already played with the Ramones and were booked as support for the infamous last Sex Pistols concert in San Francisco. But the band was always thwarted: band members died, had nervous breakdowns, overdosed, or were more successful with their other projects (e.g. Flipper or American Music Club). The fact that their new album, only their third, is finally being released on the Mars Volta label underlines that they were an important influence for many experimental guitar bands from Sonic Youth to Pavement. The buzzing sound of the two original guitarists, which Jeff Buckley named as inspiration for his new album shortly before his death, combined with the energy of the young newcomers on drums, bass and vocals still makes the band a relevant instance of post-punk.
