If you're listening to SLOW CRUSH for the first time, your own listening habits might get in the way at first.
Not that the spherical shoegaze, which likes to loudly emphasise its origins in hardcore and all kinds of styles that start with "post-", is completely new (not least NOTHING deliver a comparable sound with their new album), but the mix of the individual elements is something that can divide opinions about the band from Belgium and the UK.
The meditative vocals don't float above everything as usual, but are always in danger of being swallowed up by the instruments, especially the guitar. That this sound is no accident, however, is proven not only by the fact that the mix of SLOW CRUSH's last EP already followed a similar concept. In this way, the extremely successful guitar work becomes much more apparent, as all instruments are given much more space anyway. "Aurora" almost seems like an instrumental work that does not draw its sole appeal from the performance of singer Isa Holliday, who is nevertheless, especially in quiet passages, an indispensable part of the whole and lifts this album above the mass of the usual post-rock releases.
