Johannes Mundinger: Flurstück – Exhibition and Catalogue Release

Two years after his solo show at Urban Spree Galerie („Unterm Nebel“ in march 2016), Urban Spree Resident Artist Johannes Mundinger returns to the gallery with a 4-day pop-up retrospective exhibition of his solo show „Flurstück“ that was held in December 2017 – January 2018 in the eight room gallery space of the Kunstverein Offenburg Mittelbaden e.V. with more than 30 large scale works on display.

Alongside a large selection of the paintings that were displayed in his native city of Offenburg and which will be shown in Berlin for the first time, Mundinger will release and sign two printed catalogues: „Painted Walls“ (a selection of his best murals painted between 2012-2017) and „Flurstück“ the official catalogue of the exhibition at Kunstverein Offenburg-Mittelbaden.

Johannes Mundinger, born in 1982 in Offenburg, has studied in Münster and Brussels. Since 2011, he lives and works in Berlin. His works have been shown by the Museum Kunstpalast Düsseldorf, the Museum Weserburg, Bremen, the Freiburger Kunstverein and numerous galleries.
In 2013, he was awarded the jury price of the Berliner Kunstverein. Since 2012 he is a resident artist of the Urban Spree Galerie, Berlin.

His paintings oscillate between abstraction and figuration, the installation of his work is often determined through site-specific elements, which function as integral aspects of his paintings.

Jim Avignon: „Business as Unusual“ Book Release + Concert

The painter, illustrator and conceptual artist Jim Avignon is one of the most unconventional characters in the current German art world. Vibrant colours and unpretentious materials, a good dose of wit and an enormous output are his trademarks. For the first time an opulent monograph allows a comprehensive insight into the complex oeuvre of the artist, who has always sought confrontation with the establishment and who could never decide whether he wanted to be pop-art, street-art, Picasso on acid or whether he was simply the fastest painter in the world.
Avignon’s narrative about „things not going as planned“ is full of concise quips and not without a certain delight. He expounds his peculiar relationship with the art market and describes the exhibitions that finally put him on the map as an exceptional artist. We get to read about odd detours into the world of commerce, a stolen bear, paintings that need ironing, call-for-help socks and how a mural almost landed him in jail. Avignon spills the beans about the high and lows of one of the strangest careers the art world has seen in the last 25 years—expect a lot of detail, an ironic undertone and an abundance of images.

„Business as Unusual“ is a hardcover, 160 pages, 400 illustrations book published by the local imprint The Green Box with texts written by ATAK, Sandra Prill, and Lars Willumeit.

VF#5 Dame Area // Jean-Luc // Andrew Claristidge (dj set)

++++ SOUND OF MACHINES, VOCAL CHORDS AND INSTRUMENTS PLAYED BY HUMANS •̀.̫•́✧ ++++

Dame Area (Barcelona, Spain)
Listen 🔪https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tD9KRnOXfMM
Dame Area mixes synths and live percussion, industrialism and tribalism. Their music works as a musical Rorscharch test: some people call them Tribal Wave, others Latin EBM, some say they do pure Krautrock some say that they do Industrial Postpunk.
Their music has been played in the sets of some of the bravest DJs out there including The Hacker, Identified Patient, Vladimir Ivkovic, Yamatsuka Eye (Boredoms) or Tommy Tokyo (Group A) among others.

Jean-Luc (France, Suisse)
Listen 🔪 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPRFiS65Nmo
– Jean-Luc is a Berlin-Fribourg-Vienna based band, even though Jean-Luc might be french.
– Jean-Luc doesn’t like clichés, that’s why it’s impossible to find one of him on the web.
– Jean-Luc’s big toenail dug a hole through the fabrik of his right espadrille while dancing drunk in the Spartacus in 1994 to a song from Beate Bartel and Chrislo Haas. Instead of sewing it up, Jean-Luc hang the espadrille to his wall as a reminder to do a hommage to that song one day.

Andrew Claristidge (Berlin)

French Dj Andrew Claristidge (Acid Washed) oscillates without any frontiers, from Techno to Pop, Ambient to Electro and Psychedelic experiments to New Wave. A Member of Mount Kismet, his new band, the trio just released on Moscoman’s imprint: Disco Halal. High-octane riffage and groovin‘ emissions host a vocal conquest that is potent and total, bringing hard rain to a cold dawn and warm song to all there beyond.“
