Igor Revelis/Klone: The be(Longing)

Urban Spree Galerie presents „The be(Longing)“, the 3rd solo exhibition of Tel-Aviv based artist Klone with Urban Spree Galerie.

After a decade exploring the medium of paper, „The be(Longing)“ marks the return of the artist to the medium of canvas. Bringing his spray can technique of shadows and gradients to perfection, Klone paints monochrome compositions where the matter of the canvas blends into geometric shapes and abstract landscapes.

„The be(Longing) is an investigation of hybrid identity, a portal into a parallel realm tucked away from the increasingly globalized and visually homologized world. Set against the backdrop of dark gallery walls, restless portraits and landscapes can be peered at, stripped of all contextual clues, the painful human relation between object-subject tugs at the primal root of abstraction. There are no nouns in this landscape, everything is a verb, the gaze is an action.“ Mika Bar-On Nesher

A few signed copies of the latest artist’s monograph – „FEWMOMENTSAGOIWASHERE“,  looking over the last 8 years of exhibitions, mural projects, installation, and animations, will be available at the opening.

Klone (b.1983) is an Ukrianian-born, Tel-Aviv based street artist, a pioneer of graffiti in Israel and a visual artist

HELL’O COLLECTIVE: BALANCE

Opening on Friday 01.06 at 19:00, Urban Spree Galerie invites you to the Opening of “Balance“, a solo presentation of new works by the famed belgian duo Hell’O Collective in our main galerie space and their first solo show in Germany.

Running in parallel with their retrospective museum solo show at the BAM in Mons (Musée des Beaux-Arts de Mons, Belgium), “Balance” brings a brand new series of paintings on canvas and on paper to the Berlin audience.

For the Brussels-based duo, “Balance” reflects upon the constant search of the equilibrium between shape, color, and momentum in their painting practice.

Hell’O will also sign their new monograph “Untitled Oddyssey“, published in early May by CFC Editions, and Urban Spree Prints will also release 2 screenprints specially made by the duo for the occasion.

Hell’O is a belgian artistic duo consisting of Antoine Detaille and Jérôme Meynen, active in murals as well as studio works and installations.

Several characteristics of their art indicate a filiation with the middle-age universe close to Jerome Bosch: an elegant and precise graphism, a taste for multiple, intertwined universes, and abundant references to a corpus of grotesque iconography, albeit perfectly mastered. Abstracted human bodies are among the many recurrent elements that are present in their paintings together with abstract, geometric signs, creating an overall rich personal mythology.

Jim Avignon: „Business as Unusual“ Book Release + Concert

The painter, illustrator and conceptual artist Jim Avignon is one of the most unconventional characters in the current German art world. Vibrant colours and unpretentious materials, a good dose of wit and an enormous output are his trademarks. For the first time an opulent monograph allows a comprehensive insight into the complex oeuvre of the artist, who has always sought confrontation with the establishment and who could never decide whether he wanted to be pop-art, street-art, Picasso on acid or whether he was simply the fastest painter in the world.
Avignon’s narrative about „things not going as planned“ is full of concise quips and not without a certain delight. He expounds his peculiar relationship with the art market and describes the exhibitions that finally put him on the map as an exceptional artist. We get to read about odd detours into the world of commerce, a stolen bear, paintings that need ironing, call-for-help socks and how a mural almost landed him in jail. Avignon spills the beans about the high and lows of one of the strangest careers the art world has seen in the last 25 years—expect a lot of detail, an ironic undertone and an abundance of images.

„Business as Unusual“ is a hardcover, 160 pages, 400 illustrations book published by the local imprint The Green Box with texts written by ATAK, Sandra Prill, and Lars Willumeit.

Rylsee: – Other Inbox –

Urban Spree Galerie is proud to present – Other Inbox – a solo show featuring a new body of works by Urban Spree resident artist Rylsee.  The opening reception will take place on the 4th of August at 19:00 at Urban Spree Galerie, Revaler Str. 99, Berlin-Friedrichshain.

Runtime: 5th of August August – 3rd of September, 2017

Evolving in an era where technology and communication are meant to be at its finest but in which humans tend to feel more and more confused by it.

Punctuality is dead, fear of missing out seems to be a common worry while there’s still no app allowing us to be in two places simultaneously. On the other hand we have never been so united in recorded history and the entire world’s knowledge is now accessible in a few clicks.

This exhibition raises questions about the relationship between human and technologies without really aiming to answering them.

– Other Inbox – is a reflection on our contemporary way of living.

Rylsee will also release his first monograph – „How to Play with Letters“ – published by Moleskine Publishing on the Opening Night and will sign and doodle copies for you.

About the artist:

Cyril Vouilloz, aka RYLSEE, is a visual artist originally from Geneva Switzerland and currently living in Berlin. With a background in typography, design and mural painting, he’s is obsessed with words and hand-drawn type compositions. His art has been featured and exhibited in U.S.A, Switzerland, France, Berlin, London, Barcelona, Tel-Aviv, Vancouver and São Paulo. Since five years, Rylsee is a resident artist at Urban Spree.
