Berlin Food Art Week: Dance Performance with InCorpo

12th July 2017 – 18:30h Urban Spree

InCorpo / Impro n. 4 – Eating or not eating (2017)

The dance improvisation performance belongs to a series of site specific performances that are taking place in public locations. “Impro n. 4 – Eating or not eating” has been commissioned by Entretempo Kitchen Gallery and is presented within the Berlin Food Art Week Festival 2017. Having the dance improvisation as a solid base, the performance is also characterised by the projection of recorded texts that will be directed in space through the dancers bodies. The texts are made of interviews: InCorpo brings to the public the Berliner citizens’ opinions and reflections about food and in particular about meat consumption. This subject brings together a wide variety of opposite ideas really debated nowadays. All these thoughts are expressed both in English and German. InCorpo’s interest about site specific performances comes from the belief that dance is a physical art form that can be accessible to everyone, finding inspirations and creative influences from the environment in which is presented.

About InCorpo:
It is a receptive ground in which contemporary dance operates in relationship to other art-forms.
It has been established by Raffaella Galdi, who conceives and guides the activities and who is developing a dance methodology to share and pass on her experience and knowledge in dance.
InCorpo stands not only to promote and support the choreographic and dance-pedagogic work of its founder, but also collaborates on projects initiated by other artists. InCorpo nourishes a field on which artists, often dealing with different languages, get in contact and create together. InCorpo has an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach.
The name InCorpo (”into the body”) comes from the understanding that anything which is created and expressed comes into “embodiment” within a form, so it “takes a body”: from dance to plastic art, from video to painting or drawing, from music to writing or spoken language. Any creative act is an expression of the invisible, present everywhere and in each of us. It manifests itself within a body, however this form may be or appear.

Blind Delon, H ø R D, Leere live + after party Herzschlag

BLIND DELON

Founded in 2016 by Mathis Kolkoz and after releasing several works on Oráculo Records / Bordello A Parigi and some DJ sets around Europe, Blind Delon raised to a multi-art project (3 musicians and a visual composition by the french artist AFB).

With their heads and bags filled with synthesizers from a time they weren’t even born, the band can be found today between a record shop and a cave rave, looking for an aesthetic that is nowhere near dying. Post-Synthwave might be the best words to qualify the project, as the music is a sort of breed between outrageous Pop and cold basslines.

Building a bridge between Pop and Rave music, Blind Delon is making a NOT conventional yet romantic Post-Punk sound.

H ø R D

H ø r d creates electronic music inspired by coldwave, soundtracks, fantasy movies, oscillating between epic compositions, EBM and techno pulse, and also more contemplative tracks.

After performances on his own musical territory, he gradually came to the European synth wave scene, signing a remix for Winter Severity Index (Rome) and performing live in Germany (Wave Gotik Treffen), Belgium, Czech Republic, Swiss, Malta, Italia, Austria, Spain.

His first album « Focus on light » was released 2016 on Anton Maiiovi’s label Giallo Disco Records, and sold out 6 weeks later.
In 2017, his third EP «Futures» is out on Sacred Court, label of electronic artist SNTS.

His upcoming second LP will be out in Avant! Records in September, 2018.

«The label Giallo Disco Records have described the music as “Reverb-Soaked Urban-Gothic Melancholic songs, between synth-shoegaze and violent EBM,” and believe the album will “will resonate strongly with fans of Pornography-era The Cure, Joy Division and classic Nine Inch Nails.” To our ears we hear strains of early Tropic of Cancer and dare we say Pet Shop Boys, and overall, as you’ll be able to tell from the album preview below, it’s a well informed reincarnation of what makes the synth, minimal and no wave genres so appealing today.» JUNO DOWNLOAD (2016)

LEERE

We come from nowhere and move towards emptiness.
Leere is an introvert musical project, trying to express and fill the emptiness inside us. The use of analog and digital sounds of the 80s and the integration of sounds from Berlin, the city that influences her and her music strongly, helps her with that hard task.

The Holydrug Couple (Sacred Bones, USA) | Berlin

The Holydrug Couple began in Santiago, Chile in 2008, a little over a half-decade after Ives and Manu met for the first time. The two young friends hadn’t seen each other in a few years when Manu texted Ives to tell him that he bought a drum kit. They started jamming, and a week later, the band was formed. A flurry of songwriting activity followed, culminating in 2011’s Ancient Land EP and 2013’s Noctuary, both released on Sacred Bones. Moonlust boldly treads territory that those earlier psych-indebted recordings only hinted at, especially the dreamy French movie soundtracks of the ’70s and ’80s and the discography of Serge Gainsbourg.

Palefroi: « Étalage » Art Residency + Solo Show

« Étalage: stand, stall, barrow,

display, window display,

showcase, showing off

spreading out, falling flat on one’s face / on the floor »

Urban Spree Galerie invites the Berlin-based French duo Palefroi for a month-long residency in our Berlin studio during the first three weeks of July, followed by a week-long residency directly in the gallery, and culminating in a month-long solo show.

Damien Tran and Marion Jdanoff are two French artists currently based in Berlin. Their visual work as a duo is a constant negociation between their respective approaches.. One is formal and abstract, the other narrative and figurative. They are attached to a form of harshness in the lines, to generous proliferation, to spontaneity and wonkiness.

Palefroi is a framework embracing all of their practices: printmaking, self publishing, painting and animated drawings. It is a space of experimentation and collaboration but also a structure supporting both their work as a duo and as individuals.

Following Palefroi’s residency at Urban Spree in July 2018, their solo exhibition Étalage should consist of: wolves, people playing trumpets, a fake tiger, dancing dots, drums solo and wallpapers.

PEOPLE.
THE ANSWER HAS BEEN HERE THE ENTIRE TIME. JUST MUSIC, ALWAYS.
THIS IS WHAT TREVER SAID, FINISHING THE STORY OF A LONG JOURNEY. THIS OCTOBER WE HAVE STARTED A NEW ONE. TOGETHER WITH FRIENDS. WORKING ON OURSELVES, WORKING ON MUSIC. TRYING TO PUT SOMETHING TOGETHER THAT EXPRESSES WHAT WE STAND AND CARE FOR. NOT BASED ON STRATEGIC ALLIANCES, BUT REAL RELATIONSHIPS.

MUSIC IS OUR LANGUAGE. THIS IS WHAT WE SPEAK. EVERYONE IS CONTRIBUTING TOWARDS MAKING THIS THE BEST WE CAN DO. WHAT CAN WE DO? WHAT IS IN OUR HANDS, WHAT FOR?

SOMETIMES THE BIGGEST QUESTIONS ARE ANSWERED WITH SIMPLE ACTIONS. THIS GET-TOGETHER IS OUR ACTION. THIS IS WHAT WE CAN DO NOW. DOING SOMETHING TOGETHER. FREE. VULNERABLE. EPHEMERAL. THAT OCTOBER WEEKEND WE OPENED OUR DOORS AND HEARTS SHOWING OURSELVES RAW, INSPIRED AND FULL OF SONGS. WE WERE THROWING IT ALL OUT THERE. BUILDING ON THINGS WE KNOW, ON TALENTS AND TOOLS WE HAVE. ADDING SOMETHING TO IT, THAT ADDS THE UNKNOWN.

IN THIS, YOU SEE US. AS HUMAN AS THIS IS. YOU HEARD MUSIC THAT YOU KNOW. MUSIC THAT YOU LOVE. SOUNDS THAT CHALLENGED YOU AND POSSIBLY ALSO MUSIC THAT HURT. WE TAKE THIS RESPONSIBILITY. THERE IS SO MUCH GOING ON IN THE WORLD RIGHT NOW. AND IN FACT, IT ALWAYS HAS BEEN. BUILDING ALTERNATIVES AND BUILDING SOMETHING BASED ON WHAT COMES OUT OF ALL OF US. THINGS WE AGREE ON: EQUALITY, TOGETHERNESS, INDEPENDENCE, ABUNDANCE AND CARE, AS WELL AS TAKING CHANCES. SETTING AN EXAMPLE FOR OURSELVES.

CREATING A SPACE WHERE WE ALL CAN SPEND TIME TOGETHER. THAT IS THE MOST VALUABLE THING. THE ABILITY TO COCREATE SOMETHING THAT IS COMING OUT OF ALL OF US. THE LOVE FOR EACH OTHER, THE LOVE FOR MUSIC, AND THE LOVE FOR THIS EXPERIENCE. BEING ABLE TO RIDE THROUGH THIS LIFE, MAKING DECISIONS AND CHANGES. IT’S IN OUR HANDS.

AND IT’S JUST MUSIC. BUT THIS IS OUR ANSWER, FOR TODAY, FOR RIGHT NOW. WE ARE GRATEFUL, THAT YOU ARE WITH US.
