Tamikrest – Kidal Tour

Tamikrest bedeutet so viel wie „Knotenpunkt“ oder „Bündnis“ in der Sprache der Kel Tamashek, einem traditionellen Nomaden-Volk aus der Sahara, das auch die Tuareg genannt wird. Es ist ein passender Name für eine Band, die so erfolgreich die Werte ihrer zeitlosen Kultur mit den Klängen und Visionen, die sie bei ihren Reisen auf den Konzertbühnen und iPods dieser Welt kennengelernt hat, verbindet. Spuren von Dub, Blues, Psychedelia, Funk und sogar Art-Rock fließen in Tamikrests moderne Interpretation der traditionellen Tuareg-Musik.

Seit Jahren schon lenken sie unter einem beachtlichen Medienecho den Fokus des Westens auf ihre bedrohte Kultur. Auch auf dem neuen, ihrer Heimat im Nordosten Malis gewidmeten Album „Kidal“ (Glitterbeat, März 2017) geht es um die Zustände dort. Die Band spricht sich auf „Kidal“ gegen Unterdrückung, aber auch für Hoffnung, Durchhaltevermögen und Freiheit aus. Aufgenommen wurde in Bamako zusammen mit dem Produzenten Mark Mulholland von Tony Allens Afro-Haitian Experimental Orchestra. David Odlum, der für seine Zusammenarbeit mit Tinariwen bereits mit einem Grammy ausgezeichnet wurde, steuerte den Mix bei.
Seit die Band 2006 internationale Bühne betrat, leidet ihr Heimatland unter zunehmend gravierenden Problemen. Die Musiker stammen ursprünglich aus Kidal im Nordosten Malis, leben nun aber aufgrund von Krieg, Verfolgung und politischem Kollaps im Exil in Algerien. Während Tamikrest ihre musikalischen Träume verwirklichen konnten, wurden sie, ihre Familien und Freunde aufgrund brutaler Sharia-Gesetze zu Flüchtlingen.
Schon auf „Chatma“ (Glitterbeat 2013), das auf Platz 1 der europäischen World Music Charts und zahlreichen Jahresbestenlisten renommierter Musikmagazine wie Mojo, The Quietus und The Independent landete, hat die Band diese Erfahrungen eindrucksvoll verarbeitet. Auf Tamashek heißt „Chatma“ so viel wie „Schwester“ und so findet sich auf dem Album Musik zwischen Desert Blues und großer Poesie über Leid und Verlust, Melancholie und Zuversicht, gewidmet den Tuareg-Frauen, die in der Krise Malis das moralische Rückgrat der Familien bilden.
2014 wurde Tamikrest als Beste Gruppe bei den Songlines Music Awards ausgezeichnet und mit dem Live-Album „Taksera“ unterstrichen sie ihren Ruf als exzellente Live-Band.
Tamikrest eroberten in den vergangenen Jahren schon die Herzen vieler Besucher auf zahlreichen Festivals wie Flow Helsinki, Roskilde, Fusion, InMusic, Colours of Ostrava, Oya, Le Guess Who?, North Sea Jazz und Latitude.
Auch auf ihrer erfolgreichen „Kidal“ Release-Tour im Frühling 2017 mit insgesamt 27 Konzerten begeisterten sie europaweit. Tamikrest sind in absoluter Bestform und werden ihrem Ruf als eine der innovativsten Bands Westafrikas mehr als gerecht.

it was 2011 on the last floor of an old beer factory, you were made of the most diverse group of talents performing back to back to back. You wanted to travel the world, you were traveling from around the planet, bringing beauty in small and wde corners, you wanted to make the world virbate with your music, bodies, flickering moving visuals.

You asked for it that night and now we made it, ready for you and everyone else to use it.

It´s called Muriquee.

We celebrate with our friends at Urban Spree the launch of this new way to be a community of nomads.

Muriquee is a start up, Berlin style, we have built a piece of internet that will help musicians, venues and nights builders to travel and promote events anywhere.

From noon this Sunday we will pour in music and vibes up until the next morning

In ancient Greek mythology, Eris was the Goddess of Chaos – The eldest daughter of Nyx (The dark night) – The rebellious daughter, born of the night & causing discord and strife. Berlin is a city where the multitude of creative scenes converge constantly and we shall be embracing this on the night.

Featuring exhibitions of visual art, performance, photography, music and fashion from an all-female, Berlin based selection of artists.

Entry is via a voluntary donation basis and will be split between the artists.

Jen Black
JEN BLACK (aka Blix) is the founder of Modern Movement, established in Berlin in 2010. She is also co-founder of Brave Exhibitions (London/Berlin) and endorcism (Berlin). She has been internationally hosting and DJing Cold Wave, Minimal, No Wave, Post-Punk, Experimental and Avant-garde events with live acts and performances since 2008. Her publication Modern Movement is an exclusive document of today’s Berlin underground.

Trans*feminist multi-artist Sanni brings in her new DJ set house and techno mixed with influences that go from classic to indie rock. Self-produced tracks and live vocals included.
