Off The Radar Booking at Urban Spree

Off The Radar Booking presents:
Serengeti from the legendary label Anticon and K The I???.

The alternative Hip Hop artist Serengeti from Chicago/Illinois, a member of Sisyphus along with Son Lux an Sufjan Stevens.
With his Serengeti solo show he brings his sharp depature from most mainstream Hip Hop to Europe. Serengeti has been active since the early aughts and is known among cerebral rap nerds for his seemingly flippant insight, hilarious characters and sloppy perfectionism.

K The I ???
The grand sympathetic is live electronica and live rap in a way that has hardly been offered so far.
One of the strongest voices and most powerful (underground) rappers of our time, all beats are self-produced and constantly improvised at the shows. The work of art K-The I ???, is
headnicker sound for advanced!

Opening of SP38: Post-Vandal 2 Residency

Berlin-based street artist SP38 was invited by Urban Spree Galerie and Boddinale for a special gallery residency alongside the film festival (15-25.02.2018).

After 2 weeks of daily indoor work and street interventions in Friedrichshain, we invite the public to discover the outcome of the art residency over the upcoming weekend together with the artist.

The exhibition opens on Saturday, February 24th from 14:00 to 23:00 and will continue on Sunday February 25th from 12:00 to 23:00. Visitors will be able to acquire the original works on canvas and paper produced during the residency in addition to a selection of screen prints and stickers.

SP38 will also screen print “Post Vandal” tote bags live on Saturday!

Post Vandal 2“, explores the notion of vandalism at the age of post-graffiti.

“ERASED”

When street art pays homage to toying.

« Erased » – « Effacé » – « Ausradiert »

Erased: the walls, the city, the memories, 1UP, childhood, history, words, life, empty monuments, hope, innocence, dreams, signs, green trees.

Erase oblivion, rub out memory.

Erase the work before it’s finished, self-efface one’s own work by covering it with its duplicate.

Erase history, both recent and distant. Erase the cruel crystalline nights with repetitive blood red slogans like so many mute, slowly illegible words. Turn a piece of wall lost in a rigid historical street into an evolving and unfinished artwork that derides content by erasing-replacing the same signs, the same forms, the same useless repetitions.

ERASED was written on a large roll of paper found in the trashcan at a kindergarten. The series ran until
the paper ran out. The first one hit the street the day Fidel Castro died …

Pasted up mainly in Berlin, Paris, Seoul, Wilhelmshaven …

“Street art must reinvent or erase itself before it’s too late.” SP38, Berlin 2017 (Transl. Nicholas Grindell)

A relentless urban wanderer and street typographer, SP38 (b.1960) uses different lo-fi techniques (collages, paste-ups, stickers, screenprints, paintings) to imprint his vision of the city and his letters to the walls. Involved at an early stage with the « Figuration Libre » movement in Paris and participant to the first graffiti and street art meeting in 1985 with Vive la Peinture, Speedy Graphito, Futura, Miss Tic, and Blek Le Rat, SP38 has navigated in different squat scenes (including the infamous Berlin’s Tacheles) before moving to Berlin in 1995.

A prime witness of the fast-paced gentrification of the metropolis, his art subtly reveals the fractures of the city through successive campaigns and catchy slogans (« Who kills Berlin? », « Erased », « Escape », « Occupy », « Vive la Bourgeoisie », Vive la Crise »…), where the intimate, personal level often collides with the bigger scale.

The residency will follow its own strenuous path and will increment itself everyday from 12:00 onwards. The public is invited to witness the progression of the residency. A vernissage is scheduled at the end of the residency, on Saturday and Sunday, 24 & 25th of February from 14:00.

Lick&Listen#10 . Adult Films with Live Music

Urban Spree and Fecunda Lab join forces to organice, Lick&Listen: Adult Films with Live Music + Party

Lick&Listen selects silent ethical-adult films.

The silent film era lasted from 1894 to 1929. During the silent film era a pianist, theater organist, or, in large cities, even a small orchestra would often play music to accompany the films.

Fecunda Lab offers the contemporary version of it.

The aim of Lick&Listen is to normalize porn through contemporary screenings of silent alternative erotic films (Queer, Fun, Feminist, Gay, Kinki, or Fetish among others) in public spaces. During silent ethical adult films, musicians will either play improvise or sheet music to accompany the films.

We will enjoy three concerts and after the screen-concert, we said goodbye to the night dancing in a nice and sexy atmosphere.

Get tickets in advance to ensure your entrance: 6.5€
Spare tickets at the door: 8€ / From 22.30: 5€

Dälek • Debmaster

Veteran agitators dälek have never been ones to stick within the rigid parameters of genre. A group who seemingly hold the utmost contempt for conservative expectations regarding form, instead pioneering a volatile and timeless strain of hip-hop, drawing as much from My Bloody Valentine as Public Enemy. These practitioners of noise fuelled depravity are back with a whole new album, entitled Endangered Philosophies, their follow up to last years Asphalt for Eden, scheduled to come out via Ipecac Recordings September 1 2017.

With Dälek, the flow has often been usurped by scorched textures, the product of synthetic decay, themes flitting from pungent political rage through to outright Dionysian frenzy. On Endangered Philosophies, the lyrics are more focused and at the forefront than ever before, and MC Dälek’s new experiments with rhyme styles and flow makes for a vital concoction. There’s no doubt about it, Endangered Philosophies is a work of guttural catharsis, it is a call to arms…

Within the context of the current political landscape, the title Endangered Philosophies certainly brings to mind pertinent issues of moment, notably the rampant rise of anti-intellectualism, as well as the all too rapid erosion of genuinely progressive values in the face of fearful reactionary forces. In MC Dälek’s own words…“Endangered Philosophies is a very introspective record about very external forces. This isn’t about one listen… it’s about your evolving perception when you immerse yourself in the layers of sound and words. Endangered Philosophies is a record about the RIGHT NOW and yet will resonate differently each time it is listened to, in a word….timeless. » (Rolling Stone)

Dälek have been prone to outbursts of pummeling extremity, yet their sound is anything but one dimensional; with viscous dark-ambient soundscapes congealing atop their incessant beats, a dual focus on brute force and disembodied unease. And still, Dälek continue to evolve, as Endangered Philosophies takes a new approach to source material, this time making use of material sent to them by people they have friendships and relationships with including Toronto based Metz, manipulating and sampling in the same way they would use record samples.

Although the group have evolved their sound over the years, they continue to collaborate with the same behind the scenes crew who’ve been with them from the beginning, from the production team, to the artist behind the cover art (Paul Romano). Endangered Philosophies captures so many elements of past Dälek but in a new way, easily matching any of their earlier output in terms of sheer unbridled intensity.

At this stage in their career they have elevated to a frankly peerless stature; with next year marking 20 years since the release of their pivotal debut album Negro Necro Nekros, and having previously collaborated with a host of like-minded visionaries; ranging from Krautrock legends Faust, through to the 90s electronic act Techno Animal – a similarly restless project comprised of Kevin Martin (The Bug, King Midas Sound) and Justin Broadrick (Godflesh, Jesu). Fans will be thrilled – but not too surprised – to discover that with Endangered Philosophies, the group once again charge forward, continuing to resist stagnation in all of its forms.
